Where In The World (Sylvia album) moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Where In The World (Sylvia album), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. I've gone back and fixed the References/External links issue with previous articles I've submitted, which hadn't already been edited. I understand that using "

  • Emilio Castillo
  • Stephen Kupka
  • David Garibaldi

" instead of "Emilio Castillo; Stephen Kupka; David Garibaldi" might be more efficient when running the code. My issue with this procedure is that it doesn't translate very well to copy and paste. For example, I use Wikipedia extensively to update my music tags. If the songwriters are put into an "hlist" I have to do more editing. If they're entered with a comma or an apostrophe to separate the names, those characters are included in the copy/paste actions. So the dilemma, as I see it, is whether to write more efficient code (which should always be done whenever possible) or whether the article should be more user friendly (which I believe takes precedence over everything else, if that doesn't have a great negative impact, obviously). So…

Hi, I'd like to provide you some additional advice regarding your entries, in particular the track listings. When listing the songwriters, you only need to write the full name (with a link) the first time it appears. After that, if it's the same writer on a later track, just put that last name and there is no need to link it again. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:08, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Album ratings edit

Hi, the name of the ratings template for albums is {{Album ratings}}, so there is no need to keep changing it to "Album reviews" in the articles you have been editing. Also, for citing liner notes, you can simply use {{Cite AV media notes}} for proper formatting of such references. I notice you use quotation marks around the album titles, when they should be italicized. The template will ensure that happens. Thanks. Well, if memory serves me right, the title "Every Mile Mattered" was unavailable to me. I tried it and it redirected me back to the artist's main page. I don't know how to reclaim a title that does that or even if it's OK to do so. In lieu of that, I created a title similar to the hundreds of others I've seen on Wikipedia. Hey, HowlinMadMan. Greetings from Seattle. I'm here to answer your question on this - and I've posted on the deletion page itself, but felt it best to cover it here as well.
I won't go into the why here as it's been extensively covered elsewhere on Wikipedia, but I recommend you check out our general notability guidelines and Music album notability guidelines. This latter link will be the most relevant. Do keep in mind, as well, that being here in Articles for Deletion (AfD for short) does not mean that it will be deleted, it means that Citrivescence is seeking consensus on whether it should be deleted - and likely feels that a) a speedy delete is inappropriate (which, in this case, it is inappropriate), and proposed deletion is not the best bet (again, it is not the best bet). Even so, keep up the work and follow the guidelines - remember, in a worst case we can always create a draft for you. =) --Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 07:56, 24 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Redirected articles edit

Please don't recreate articles that have been redirected (note: redirecting is not deletion) such as you did with That Secret Place (album). All you have to do is go to the original title (That Secret Place) and revive it. All your earlier work you did on the article remains in the history. The articles you create are often lacking enough independent and reliable sources. Please do not use WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS or WP:INHERITED as reasons as to why these articles should remain. All you have to do is recreate the article at the original title (again, do not create a new one) and make the necessary improvements to ensure notability requirements are met. You can also talk to the person who redirected the article on talk page to ask what you need to do. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:58, 29 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Re:Redirected articles edit

I don't mean to be argumentative, but if you guys communicated with me (and others, I'm sure) when an article is redirected and relayed information like you just did, then maybe I'd know that and you wouldn't have to yell at me. As I'm sure you know, most of us aren't as knowledgeable of Wikipedia as you professional Wikipedians. It's unrealistic to ever think that will be the case. To be fair, some of you do communicate, on occasion, while some do not. I've had reviewers drop me a message and tell me what was lacking and even tell me the original article was in a draft space and how to access it. That works just fine. It's a win/win. I get educated and Wikipedia get's better future articles and maybe gets to keep the one in question. I appreciated that kind of thoughtfulness. Whether this article was deleted or redirected, I had no clue at the time. All I knew was that I could not access it when I tried through normal means. The only way I knew it was gone was that I got a message from a bot saying the image was no longer in use. Maybe it's just something you think I'm supposed to know, but I didn't. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I admit, I'm basically a novice at this stuff. I'm learning. I'm still not sure what you're talking about and how to access the original article but at least now I know that it wasn't deleted so I won't recreate any others. I actually want to do things right the first go round and not create problems.

Re: "The articles you create are often lacking enough independent and reliable sources." True, some of the earlier ones only had one or two references, but like I said, I'm learning. When given an opportunity to improve them, I believe I have done so in most cases.

Re: "history" How was I supposed to know this?

Re: "Please do not use WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS or WP:INHERITED as reasons as to why these articles should remain." I'm sure you guys get tired of hearing it, but if the shoe fits. I can show you articles that have zero references and lots more, which on first glance, have two or more sources but when you look closely, it turns out there is only one reference with multiple declarations. You should be able to understand how this frustrates someone who spends a couple hours writing up a decent article and then is told it doesn't cut the mustard because there are only a couple of sources. This leaves the impression, warranted or not, that you have double standards. Please, don't get mad. I'm not saying you do. I'm just stating what I've read of others frustrations and what I felt myself at first. And I will not point those articles out for you or anyone else because as far as I'm concerned they should be available, with or without references. I went looking for them. Others will, too. If they're deleted, it doesn't help anyone. That's a lose/lose.HowlinMadMan (talk) 00:57, 30 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Patrice Jégou.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Patrice Jégou.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:49, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Only Rock 'N Roll 1955-1959: 20 Pop Hits edit

The article Only Rock 'N Roll 1955-1959: 20 Pop Hits has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't meet WP:GNG, the sole source is a flimsy AllMusic review, and I wasn't able to find anything better online.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 00:25, 24 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Added to the article and removed the "Deletion proposal notice" I don't have much hope that this will save it, but it's worth a try. I've said it before and here we are again. Wikipedia's notability policy does not do justice to all music albums. By default it practically ushers in all the albums by the big corporations and excludes others because that big money isn't promoting them. Someone with some experience in this arena should take a closer look at this particular policy.HowlinMadMan (talk) 17:44, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Only Rock 'N Roll 1955-1959: 20 Pop Hits for deletion edit

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Only Rock 'N Roll 1955-1959: 20 Pop Hits until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. signed, Rosguill talk 02:53, 26 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yea, I figured as much. Some of you guys are perfectly willing to let an article like this one remain. Some of you can't rest until it's gone. I suspect it's an anal fixation, a compulsion. If the article was taking the place of another, better article, I could understand, but it's just sitting there and not hurting anybody. I created it because I went looking for information on this album and found very little. I would imagine there are others out there with that same problem. I know you think you're making Wikipedia better by deleting articles that don't have enough press, but you're only half right. And that's a shame.HowlinMadMan (talk) 15:24, 26 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

You get mad because you don’t get notified when someone redirects an article you created and you get mad when you are notified that an article you created is nominated for deletion, which is decided by community consensus (which you are free to take part in, by the way). The fact is this is a run-of-the-mill compilation (maybe there should be articles for every album in those Time-Life collections they show on TV). If something hasn’t received any press, why would Wikipedia be the place to go to find info on it. Wikipedia was never intended to be a directory of all things. But please go ahead and keep creating articles for every CD in your collection because if you own it, it must be important. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:49, 26 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Who's mad now?

I'm not the only one who gets irritated, not mad, but irritated with how some people with a little power at Wikipedia "redirect" without a notification or suggestion of how to make corrections. When I was brand spanking new to Wikipedia I didn't know the difference between a redirect and a deletion. All I knew was that I suddenly couldn't find the article. And, yes, that was very irritating to me. I guess I was expected to read all the help sections because nobody notified me that the article was rejected, redirected, etc. That wasn't always the case later on. Some people did let me know what was happening and it made a world of difference. Some of you are great about doing that and I've yet to be irritated with those nice people. If prompted, I make suggested corrections and if I can't, then so be it. I even told one person that I couldn't make it any better so they should go ahead and delete it. I didn't even get irritated. Can you believe that?

"which you are free to take part in, by the way" Yea, and that's me against a bunch of you guys who feel it's your mission to delete perfectly good articles that may not be popular enough. I've tried that route. I don't need the further irritation.

"The fact is this is a run-of-the-mill compilation" That's your opinion and that's part of the problem. Maybe your irritation at my irritation has something to do with your reasoning there. That or you just don't know anything about music. This album got four and one-half stars from AllMusic. If it had another half star it would be perfect in their opinion. True there isn't any other handy press, but there will never be much press on compilation albums, no matter how good they are. That's a fly in the ointment with your notability clause. As long as you guys rely on press coverage as qualification for articles, you'll never be as good as you should be. I admit, it should be a factor. Just not the only deciding factor.

"If something hasn’t received any press, why would Wikipedia be the place to go to find info on it." Duh! Because Wikipedia is not supposed to be 𝘊𝘕𝘕 or 𝘍𝘰𝘹 𝘕𝘦𝘸𝘴. It's not 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘯𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘳. At least that was the impression I had. Does it not claim to be an encyclopedia? Encyclopedias are about information. Not popularity. If it's a verifiable fact, from any reliable, quality source, then it should be included in an encyclopedia. Period. Inclusion shouldn't be at the whim of a few people who may or may not know jack-squat about the subject.

"But please go ahead and keep creating articles for every CD in your collection because if you own it, it must be important." I will, and thanks, by the way, for noticing. I really do have good taste in music. It was nice of you to recognize that and awfully big of you to admit it even though you're miffed at me right now. Besides, I've learned that you're not always the person to review one of my articles so some of them get published by someone using a little common sense and I just know there are a lot of music lovers out there who appreciate it when they find an article on Wikipedia that somehow slips through your shredder.

"the sole source is a flimsy AllMusic review" While we're at it, I take issue with the originator's use of the word "flimsy." The review was not flimsy. It was almost perfect. I think I could live with "measly."

Let me guess… your irritation mostly derives from my comment on "anal?" I apologize if I broached a sore subject.

Have a good 'un.HowlinMadMan (talk) 02:10, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Page histories edit

Hi, you do not have to worry about "backing up originals" or saving earlier versions as you noted you did with this edit. Every edit of an article is automatically preserved in its history (including articles that are redirected). The link to a page's history is right next to the "edit this page" link. If you ever want to check out what was previously said or removed, simply check out the history section. Also, there is no need to include a statement to inform readers that "links can be found in the references section of this article" because that's how all reference lists work on all Wikipedia articles. Thanks and happy editing. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:04, 6 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hey edit

It's good that when you write about an album, you quote published reviews to demonstrate notability. But please, boil them down a bit - and when there's an actual opinion, include it. Thanks. DS (talk) 21:21, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Didn't see much difference, to be honest. The words were changed around (boiled down?) but they basically said the same thing. Maybe prettier. I suppose I can get a bit repetitive over several reviews but I've always been of the opinion that if you're quoting someone's original work you shouldn't change their original words and you should give them their due credit by naming them as the source. You took two of the three reviewing authors' names out of my original submission. Even if you name the publication they wrote for, I'm not sure if that's entirely ethical. I know if I were Robert Hilburn or Dan MacIntosh, I would feel a bit neglected. Can you explain where I'm in error. I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand so I can learn the process. Regardless, if there's a name to go with a review, I don't believe I can, in good conscious, leave it out of any future articles I may submit.HowlinMadMan (talk) 01:30, 30 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
The goal is to minimize the extent to which one uses copyrighted, nonfree text. Paraphrase what you can, excerpt what you can't, and omit what's not essential. Consult the guidelines on quoting. As for the names of the reviewers - really, those are only worth including if they're already the topic of articles; otherwise it's just namedropping. DS (talk) 03:19, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rare Earth moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, 20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rare Earth, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Your draft article, Draft:20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rare Earth edit

Hello, HowlinMadMan. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rare Earth".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:06, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

The file File:Various Artists - The Other Sister Soundtrack Cover.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in The Other Sister#Soundtrack. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE and MOS:TVPRODUCTION.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:35, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Citation styles edit

Citations styles should not be arbitrarily changed as you did in January here. Cite templates can be - and were in this case - referenced by {{sfn}} tags, and you broke those references. There is no "correct" style for discographies and there is a guideline which specifically prohibits such changes to conform to some imaginary standard, WP:CITEVAR: "Editors should not attempt to change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference, to make it match other articles, or without first seeking consensus for the change." Please don't do such things to citations again. Skyerise (talk) 13:07, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
