Recent brewery additions

edit

Hey,

They look great... you did a swell job. They certainly fit into the Beer project, that's exactly what it's all about. I don't really have much to add, as I say I think you wrote excellent articles -- if you want a minor thing, it's that generally breweries are in category English breweries or whatever, but not also in category Beer since the breweries by nationality are already nested under the beer cat. At any rate, they look good and you might want to put up a mention of them at the beer project chat page (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Beer) to show them off and solicit anybody else's contributions. Some of them are British and I'm not quite -- Canadian -- so on that front they'll be of more help than I am...

Once again, they look great to me, so I hope you decide to make some more pages. --Daniel11 01:01, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Excellent, sounds like a good plan! I'm currently imbibing a Smithwick's, one of God's gifts to man, although the page on here could use some work... Look forward to further contributions and communication. --Daniel11 01:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, that should be "one of the Irish's gifts to man." ;) --Daniel11 01:46, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hesiod's Works and Days

edit

Cheers ! Yes, I noticed the persistent elliptical problem with the link to "Works and Days" in the Hesiod article pointing back to Hesiod ! The choices have always been clear: (1) write the article on Works and Days, (2) de-Wikify "Works and Days", (3) have "Works and Days" point to an external link to the text of "Works and Days", or (4) leave it oddly perplexing as it is ! I haven't had time to write the "Works and Days" article, or I would have ! I think it's preferable to have a real article on "Works and Days" but that's the best case. For the time being, it might be best to either point to the text or de-Wikify until the article can be written. Some might argue to the contrary. Leave it as a dead pointer as a reminder, not a loop back to the Hesiod article. This would involve simply changing the 'redirect' article. Theogony has a veritable article already. Just some thoughts for your query. Bests. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc 09:06, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

On 13-Mar, you blanked Works and Days. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it to the previous version. In adition, to resolve the circular redirect, I removed the links from Hesiod. Blanking the redirect was not a good idea as a number of articles link to Works and Days. People clicking on those links are left with a dead page instead of being redirected to an article that discusses the poem. If you decide to create an article, you can restore the link. You might consider writing a stub. If you have questions, please let me know. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 03:06, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Zeedonk v. Zonkey

edit

Thanks for pitching in on this (see Talk:Zeedonk) but you give us two references to the OED, which is a subscription service only. Without the details, the references don't communicate anything -- can you tell us more? Over on the Talk:Zeedonk page? I left this here on your own talk page solely to draw your attention; feel free to delete whenever.  :) -- Lisasmall 05:55, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Beer cats

edit

It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. The proposal has been supported by User:Syrthiss, and supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers.

Greek to me

edit

Greetings. I just wrote the page Greek to me. I am comparing similar expressions in other languages. I was wondering if you would be able to add the expression in any languages with which you are comfortable. Btw, I just found your page/profile by running a search for users who have a level 4/level 5 ability in non-English languages. Thanks much! samwaltz 04:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Hop back.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hop back.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:39, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I see you have advanced Latin. Can I ask you to check the improvements I made to the etymological note at Celt (tool) please? I quite often need a Latin expert to confirm my edits, so I would be glad to have you as a contact if you are into this stuff. --Doric Loon (talk) 12:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Beer category decision

edit

A discussion has been opened on changes that have been made to the existing Beer category system. The changes reverse the decision made by the Project in April 2006. The changes were based on agreement by only two people, and by a discussion that took place outside the Beer Project. There may be some merit in the changes, and to prevent future conflict it is important that there is some discussion of the matter. If you're interested, please see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Beer#Brewery_cats. SilkTork *YES! 15:42, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Greene king.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Nomination of Henri Herbert for deletion

edit

A discussion has begun about whether the article Henri Herbert, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Henri Herbert until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Gigs (talk) 21:35, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
