PS: In reply to the question you put on the help desk, you may want to put a question in the discussion page of the template ([[Template:Aircraft specifications]]), or ask the creator of the template, Karl Dickman.

Re: Vmc edit

Hello,

{{Aircraft specifications}} is a template that uses parametres, as well as a lot of if/then statements. Essentially what it does is it has a bunch list of parametres for various aspects of the aircraft. Within the article itself, values are specified for those parametres; then, the template renders those values into the code you see.

The reason why Vmc didn't work is because it isn't one of the parametres that is supported by the template. You said that it was a very important statistic for twin-engine aircraft, and I believe you have some expertise in the subject. Consequently, I have added Vmc to the template. You can now specify it with |minimum control speed main=XXX knots and |minimum control speed alt=XXX mph, XXX km/h.

An Invite to join Aviation WikiProject edit

Hi, you are cordially invited to join the Aviation WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to aviation. This includes aircraft, airports, airlines and other topics.

As you have shown an interest in Maritime Air Charter we thought you might like to take an interest in this new WikiProject.
You might like to take an extra interest in our Airlines subproject
We look forward to welcoming you to the project! Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 22:19, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but for now I am surfing through the various aspects of the project, but don't feel comfortable enough with my editing skills to join. When I try to find info on how to do various things and what styles, etc is expected, I am rather overwhelmed by the vast amount of info and can't seem to find what I need. HiFlyChick (talk) 01:24, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

WHat sort of things were you looking for? CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 19:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
At one point I was hoping to find a list of all existing templates, so I could choose one and step into it to see its list of fields. It seems that you can leave out fields that are not applicable, and I wanted to know what the full list of existing fields for any given template was. HiFlyChick (talk) 19:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't think I've ever seen a list of templates but there is Category:Wikipedia templates which might be a starting point. Each template should let you know which fields can be left out but not all do. With some, such as Template:Infobox Airport, almost everything can be left out and the template will still work. Others, such as some of the biographical ones, will always require that certain fields are filled in. If you create /Sandbox you can try various templates out in there to see what is required. Also, if you create a second sandbox you can use it as a template. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 23:45, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:PortersLakeRwy.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:PortersLakeRwy.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Photo request edit

Are you in proximity to Halifax International Airport?

If so, would you be willing to photograph the Air Canada Jazz headquarters? It's at 10 Goudey Drive, Enfield, Nova Scotia. If you want, you can photograph the headquarters of Canjet and Maritime Air Charter (both also by the airport) as well. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:21, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • About the photo requests, thanks in advance!
  • As for your proposal, I do not object to your proposed deletion.
  • WhisperToMe (talk) 00:27, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Have you had a chance to take the photos yet? WhisperToMe (talk) 17:09, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry - it seems like whenever I'm at the airport I'm either going flying or it's crappy weather. I haven't forgotten you, just procrastinating! I'll try harder... HiFlyChick (talk) 02:41, 24 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Alrighty - Please let me know once you get the photos :) - BTW a possible idea when you are flying is to show up at the airport early, get the photos, then go to the car park. If Halifax Airport has free wireless internet you could then upload your photos while waiting at the gate WhisperToMe (talk) 04:54, 24 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Etiquette question edit

If you have something that shows the common name then it would be best to edit my sandbox. Keeps them in one easy to see place.. The more that that a definitive common name the better. And sure continue to make your case. I'm not going to move any in the middle of a discussion and if I had really felt that it was a problem that needed fixing urgently then I would have moved them before now. Enter CBW, waits for audience applause, not a sausage.

Magdalen Islands Airport edit

Hi there! I've responded to your comment on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport Talk page. In general, I'm willing to go along with what you say. Anyway, you can read the full thing there. Cheers! AshleyMorton (talk) 01:33, 11 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Halifax edit

Hi there! I've responded to your comments on my talk page. Good to have someone who actually know's what she's talking about in the picture. (Oh, and sorry I've been taking so long on that Magdalen Islands project - moving cities takes too bloody much time!!!) Talk soon. AshleyMorton (talk) 13:33, 23 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

You're not taking long at all! As a confirmed procrastinator, I still haven't gotten the photos from around Halifax Airport, but after all, Wiki is an amusing hobby, but a hobby nonethless. Having a job sure seems to interfere with my social life, too.
And now I'm semi-sick again >:(
Been a bad year out here for that - I bet half the population has something bad going on...

Pilot Controlled Lighting edit

I've left a comment but it wasn't quite what I expected when I started. It would be good to get some other opinions. Both User:Trevor MacInnis and User:Ahunt are pilots and may have a better idea. They are both Canadian and it would probably be a good idea to get some from other countries as well but I'm not sure who else would be good to ask. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 22:48, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The CFS is pretty detailed on the Canadian stuff, although the CFS isn't online, so it's impossible to quote an online reference. We do need input from pilots from other countries, though, for comparison sake. Does the US only have type K ARCAL, for instance - is that why they don't even mention the type (if there only is one)? HiFlyChick (talk) 04:16, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

CTAF or MF edit

Here's another article you might be interested in, Common Traffic Advisory Frequency. The article says it's "used for air-to-air communication at U.S., Canadian and Australian non-towered airports." On the other hand Mandatory frequency airport, Mandatory frequency redirects there, says it's rare in the US "but they are common in other countries such as Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Norway;". So, supposedly both are used in Canada and Australia but I can't say that CTAF is a term used in Canada. The CFS does not list it but uses MF. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 02:49, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that - we see MF all the time, and the other one that we use is ATF (aerodrome traffic frequency). I'm not sure that CTAF is a Canadian term at all. Need to put it on my my To Do list! HiFlyChick (talk) 04:07, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

BTW I am moving your pics to the Commons WhisperToMe (talk) 06:47, 2 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for moving them - I was going to upload them directly into Commons, but it started asking for username, and I didn't know if I could use my regular Wikipedia username or not so I took the easy way out. I'll try and remember the summer pics, but boy summer sure feels a long way off right now! HiFlyChick (talk) 03:22, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Try making your account a Global Account - that way the same account can be used at Commons and on Wikipedia - See Meta:Help:Unified_login WhisperToMe (talk) 02:40, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Great - thanks! I tried logging in globally prior to this but didn't know that a global account wasn't automatically created, so the login failed. Now I'm all set and can put further pics on WikimediaHiFlyChick (talk) 08:13, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Canadian Airport Identifiers edit

I'm not sure. I think it had something to do with this list and I know that if you go here and search by putting a "C" in the "Select a letter for ICAO Codes:" box it only lists some CW non-airports and CY, CZ. The bit in the AIP isn't clear. I checked the CFS and in the A section it has "Cross Reference of Aerodrome Location Indicator & Name" and in the section explaining what everything means they use Montreal/Saint-Hubert Airport and call CYHU a location indicator. I just recalled that ICAO had a searchable database that only returned CY and CZ airports but I can't find it now. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 19:18, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

There must be some thing some place that defines them but I'm not sure where. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 14:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

CFS edit

I was wondering if you had a copy of the current CFS? Ours hasn't turned up yet. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 09:29, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you have the chance can you check out the two airports added at List of airports in Newfoundland and Labrador, Bay d'Espoir Airport and Hope Brook Airport. I think they are abandoned aerodromes rather than current ones. They are both sourced to the CFS but in the edition that ended 10 March Hope Brook Airport does not appear anywhere and Bay d'Espoir is listed in the abandoned section. Also if they are in the CFS they should have location codes. According to Google Bay d'Espoir was CCX4 and Hope Brook does not seem to have existed for a while and the Hope Brook Mine closed in 1997. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 17:47, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I figured they probably was no change. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 23:23, 19 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sable Island Aerodrome edit

Thanks for seeing that. There is no control at all, I have to use whatever is available. It would need a new version of the map showing Sable Island and I have no idea how to do it. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 23:16, 17 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

CAVOK edit

I moved that down to the North American section for obvious reasons. And I restored the international version. Also is CAVOK useable in METAR? The reference says air ground communications. I'll check later when I go to work and can check MANOBS. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 01:12, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

The original source at the UK Met Office is dead and I couldn't find where it had gone. Not sure where the Cumulonimbi came from. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 05:09, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I found a better reference from the UK which uses ceiling. I suspect the Norwegian one may have been a translation error. Also found this which is an online version of what we have here and says CAVOK isn't used in METAR in Canada. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 07:14, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Did you notice that all the Canadian references to CAVOK are in the TAF and make no mention of it being used in SA. I had to go back and check the UK reference to see if it was used and they use it in both. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 06:37, 31 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Buildings and structures in edit

It looks as if some airports do appear in that sort of category and others don't. For example neither Acme Airport or Calgary/Airdrie Airport are in a building category. But Category:Airports in Alberta is in the Category:Buildings and structures in Alberta which contains Acme and Calgary/Airdrie as are other airport categories However, both Edmonton International Airport and O'Hare International Airport are in building categories. So it looks to be fairly standard. I looked at the discussion page archives for Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airports but didn't see anything. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 06:44, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Never really thought about it like that. You could raise the matter at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airports and see what others say. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 06:34, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Halifax Stanfield International Airport edit

I didn't get the runway length from a website, I assume the CYHZ official site, but from the CFS. As that is the way the CFS lists it I've added it back but with a sourced explanation. I also tagged a paragraph as needing an update. The last sentence says "...runway rehabilitation scheduled for completion in 2010." Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 08:27, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I must admit I was puzzled as to why they would change the CFS for something that was going to be that short. I checked the NOTAM file but I guess the new one hadn't been listed then. They should have done it like Miramichi Airport. Almost double in one go. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 01:11, 6 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Propeller blades edit

I have a question about this incident. Ones of my co-workers was talking to the mechanics. They told him that the four blades had been ordered from two different manufactures and that when they arrived one of the blades was found to be 5 lb (2.3 kg) heavier than the others. This then meant they had to wait for another blade to arrive. I looked through the propeller article but there is nothing about weights and tolerances. So is it common for blades for a single aircraft to be ordered from different manufactures and that tolerances to be so loose as to allow for a large weight difference like that? This is the aircraft from earlier this year. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 11:35, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

October 2016 edit

Hello, I'm Meiloorun. Thank you for your recent contributions to Sable Aviation. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!
