Playtime Revisited edit

Quietly correcting the spelling of Les Neuf Sœurs must not have been all "playtime". I never thanked you for it. I'm doing it now with added moral support for 'Playtime'. That is what the movie was about : Playtime ( the carousel reflected in the window of the skyscraper ...remember ?) It certainly was not about Playing Time. (Ingmar Bergman could have made that one I guess)

Of course PlayTime remains an option ( qua Tativille )

Regarding Helen Sharman edit

Not sure if you are able or inclined to help. I have read the article on Helen Sharman, which incorrectly states that she lit the flame at the 1991 Universiade in Sheffield. I was present at the event and saw what happened, as did several thousand other people in person and probably at least several hundred thousand on television. However, as an eyewitness description of the event counts for nothing on wikipedia, I wonder if you could help. You apparently have a copy of Ms. Sharman's autobiography. Could you please cite it, if possible, as a source corroborating that in reality Ms. Sharman did NOT light the flame, but in fact fell over, dropped the burning part of the torch on the track, and merely waved the handle at the flame, which lit automatically. It was one of the most cringingly embarrassing things I've ever seen in my life. Of course, it's entirely possible that Ms. Sharman has omitted to mention this event in her book. If so, I apologise for wasting your time.

  • There is no reference about any of this in her book, which is focused on her early life and her space flight. Hektor 08:35, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Anna Marek edit

You have recently re-created the article Anna Marek, which was deleted in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policies. Please do not re-create the article. If you disagree with the article's deletion, you may ask for a deletion review. SkerHawx 12:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you.

This is your last warning. The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from an article you created, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. SkerHawx 12:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The policy says : "Consider adding the article to your watchlist and letting the article's creator know that you have tagged it" I have discovered today that you have deleted this article, obviously without letting me know that you have tagged it. Buffon edit

I think there has to be a bit of give and take here. There have been multiple edits with this article and its redirects. I've redirected it now to the Buffon disambiguation page. This is where IMO it should be redirected and suits all parties. Niall123 20:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

While Buffon the naturalist has done more for human civilisation than Buffon the goalkeeper, I'm fairly sure that when people type Buffon into the wikipedia search bar, for the most part they are probably looking for the goalkeeper. I think this way strikes a better balance and in the long run should hopefully keep everyone happy. I'd imagine that if you left it directing to Buffon the naturalist you will have an endless amount of redits to back. I'll keep an eye on this to make sure it doesn't go to BUffon the goalkeeper. STS-120 edit

You have recently vandalized the article STS-120. This is really not a good idea and could result in your being blocked. Hektor 11:41, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

This was due to a bug in loading the page in CorHomo and I wasn't aware of the problem. You can see from my edit summary that I was in the process of disambiguating links to the word Japanese, one of which is still on the STS-120 page and which I will fix now. I'm not sure why it loaded the arc page instead of STS-120, but if you had looked at my contributions it would have been clear I was editing in good faith. Thanks for uploading Image:C-triomphe.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Thanks for uploading Image:Veil.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Image copyright problem with Image:Sts-125 crew 2.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Sts-125 crew 2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 17:46, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Anna Marek edit

My guess is that the crux of this problem is WP:PORN_BIO. The criteria put forth are pretty stern; Anna Marek apparently doesn't meet them. I understand the need for stringent notability criteria when porn stars are concerned; the reasons are obvious. But what does it all mean? It could only be one of the following:

  1. WP:PORN_BIO is too narrow and should be changed.
  2. We are in fact mistaken, and Anna Marek is indeed not a notable actress.

I somehow don't see #2 as compelling. As for #1, notice that the first criterion per WP:PORN_BIO are awards, which are all American. And that's it, I'm out of ideas... GregorB 20:08, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good to see things moving. I'd say I made some decent points, if I may say so myself... GregorB 22:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Now this really begins to stink. I thought that deletion requires rough consensus, and the votes were nowhere near consensus. The admin chose to discount "Keep" votes on grounds that writing an article about someone without reliable sources is "not a good idea at all". Well, the last time I checked the admin does not get to decide what is and what isn't a good idea: this defeats the whole purpose of the discussion. It's a procedural error. I'd like to see this issue escalated. GregorB 20:04, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ginevra Elkann edit

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Ginevra Elkann, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Ginevra Elkann. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Lee So Yeon / Yi So Yeon edit

Hi Hektor, why do you move the article about Lee So Yeon to Lee So Yeon (judoka) and replace the original with a disamb page to the judoka page + a link to an astronaut named Yi So Yeon. This is not necessary in my opinion, as Lee is not the same as Yi. It might almost sound the same, but I don't see any reason why to change this. Can you clarify your edit please? SportsAddicted | discuss 00:48, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The issue is that according to the source (Korea Herald, Korea Times, spacefacts, ...) you find both spellings for this astronaut Lee So Yeon or Yi So Yeon. Thanks for uploading Image:Montay village.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Nationality of astronauts edit

You said in the edit summary of your revert of my (possibly erroneous) categorisation of Gregory Chamitoff: "rv - NASA astronauts are US citizens." Are you sure? They obviously live in the US, but that does not make all of them American astronauts. Wubbo Ockels was a Dutch astronaut, Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud was a Saudi astronaut, Takao Doi was a Japanese astronaut, etcetera etcetera etcetera. AecisBravado 22:17, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The guys you are mentioning are not NASA astronauts (Ockels was an ESA astronaut, Doi is a JAXA astronaut, al-Saud was a Saudi prince flying as Payload Specialist). All NASA astronauts are NASA employees, i.e. US civil servants, which requires US citizenship. Hektor 22:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ko San edit

First, please use edit summaries. Secondly, "Easter-egg links" (links which promise to go to an article, such as year, but in fact take the reader to a different article) are at best controversial, but fairly generally disliked. Thirdly, as the article states that he's not yet an astronaut, but has been chosen as one possiblity for a future mission, the astronaut category is incorrect. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:47, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • In this case you have to modify all the articles about the NASA astronauts who haven't flown yet. Please check the wikipedia article astronaut. It says "An astronaut or cosmonaut is a person who has chosen space travel as a profession". I don't read there or anywhere that he/she needs to have flown in space to be an astronaut. Hektor 19:00, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
First, you're still not using edit summaries; it is very strongly encouraged that you do, if only as a courtesy to other editors. Secondly, this person has clearly not chosen as a profession to be an astronaut, as the article tells us about his profession. There's no indication that he has received any training, or anything that would justify his being called an astronaut. You also don't adress the issue of the Easter-egg link, which you've also replaced without explanation. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:14, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
He is currently training at Star City, where he arrived by mid January 2007, since the flight is in April 2008. And his profession is astronaut, since is salary is paid by the Korean Space Agency KARI and that this training activity is his only way to get this salary. Obviously you have not read The Korea Times article referenced in the article "Beginning February, the two finalists will undergo 14 months of training including a year-long session at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia." Hektor 19:18, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

With regard to your odd message on my Talk page, the opinion of anyone isn't the point; the article doesn't describe him as an astronaut, but as "a researcher at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology". The article also says that he might (or might not) go into space, though he hasn't. To call him an astronaut goes against normal English-language usage of the term.

Moreover, the idea that someone has to read a newspaper article in order to get relevant information is peculiar; if it's true, and relevant, why haven't you put it into the article instead of just reverting my edits without proper explanation? Why did it take a long discussion before you even mentioned it? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:19, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • There are tens of astronauts-in-training which are listed as astronauts in wikipedia. Why you want to make of Ko San an exception is a complete mystery to me. Garn != Astronaut edit

Not sure which NASA bio you're referring to, but the word "Astronaut" does not appear in the bio page linked from the Garn article. NASA does not consider Garn a professional astronaut. Rillian 15:23, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question: posted on Lisa Marie Nowak edit

hi!

you asked what 1st degree murder meant in Florida. basically, murder is the act of killing someone with premeditation or planning and/or in the commission of other serious crimes, like arson, rape, burglary, etc.

the title of "first degree" murder is more related to the judicial processing. first degree murder is the most serious act of murder and therefore carries heavier jail, restitution, probationary, etc. sentencing. the assigning of 1st degree murder is usually given to those who actually & physically committed the crime, whereas, someone that only contributed (like an accomplice) would get 2nd degree murder and would therefore be subject to lesser jail time.

Florida is one of the states that believes very much in capiutal punishment. depending on their current statutes and their prison population, persons convicted of 1st degree murder with special circumstance (premeditation, use of an illegal weapon, heinousness)usually received a sentence of death. the prosecutor recommends the sentence that person should be given at the start of the trial, but it is ultimately up to the jury to determine what punishment shall be handed down. A jury may well grant her 25 years to life. Life usually meaning the equation of her age + how many years she is expected to live. (ie: if a person is 25 years old and the court feels that person can live until age 60, then their life sentence is 35 years).

there are several other issues that depend on the court case, whethere she pleads insanity, sentencing, etc. so this is not such an easy question.

if you are interested, murder in Florida is described in their penal code, Title XLVI, Section 782 (782.04 specifically) here: >2006->Ch0782->Section%2004#0782.04|Florida Penal Code
