List building

There are three basic steps to building a topic list for Wikipedia: the first is to search Wikipedia to make sure it doesn't already have a list on the subject. The second step is to hunt down every word you can find on the subject, from your own memory, books, web directories, dictionaries, etc. Surround each term with double square brackets, and save the page.

Because Wikipedia has become so extensive, don't be surprised if most or even all of the links turn out blue (those are live links, each leading to an article on Wikipedia). Dead-end links are red, but don't remove them, because they show what articles Wikipedia is missing — anyone can click on a red link to create an article on that topic. The third step is checking each live article in the list for links to related topics. When you find one, add it to the list.

Disambiguation link notification for August 13 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lee "Scratch" Perry, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Daniel Boyle. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Fußballer des Jahres edit

German or Germany does not even appear in the title although it can be assumed to represent so so you need to decide just what is it that is going to be acceptable. Having the direct link and the [[]] is redundancy. It also gives the impression that Germany or German appears in the honour title when it does not.2605:E000:1301:4777:A0A6:B0E8:B6CE:B929 (talk) 04:53, 18 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

September 2020 edit

Please do not remove content from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Jonathan Davis, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive. There is no perfect length for the lead which sums up his key career moments, like his collaboration with Richard Gibbs in 2000–2001. The lead in Jonathan Davis is not "getting a bit long", as it is not the case in these pages either → Chernobyl disaster or Michael Jackson. Thank you. Significant alterations to images edit

Hi,

I've reverted your crop of File:Models33.jpg. That is a significant alteration of the original photo. You should upload the cropped version as a new file. -- Whpq (talk) 14:48, 26 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your contributions to my page edit

Dear Heiko Gerber,

I just found out you modified my Luca Turilli wiki page. While I am ok with most of your corrections I was asking myself why you replaced a recent photo from 2019 (I personally uploaded) of myself playing the acoustic guitar, with an older photo from 2016. I also saw you erased my credit as "arranger" while that is one of my main activities. Any reason for such decision? And last: you erased my credit as keyboardist, pianist and guitar player. Any reason for that? I am known to have started as a guitar player(20 years ago) but in the last 15 years I am playing mainly keyboards and piano. Many fans don't know about that and this not understandable anymore. Thanks for clearing. Kind Regards, Lturilli (talk) 20:50, 26 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, the main reason for replacing the photo is that there's already a recent one in the infobox and i wanted to add a little variety, but i will change it back. And regarding the deleted stuff, "musician" already includes all the stuff you listed (e.g "keyboardist", pianist", "guitarist", etc). If you look at similar articles, we dont list every instrument someone plays in the opening sentence. That can be specified in the following sentences. I have changed it back for now though as requested. Heiko Gerber (talk) 06:09, 27 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Heiko Gerber, thank you so much! I really appreciated, as that photo is about a band not existing anymore and I am looking very different now :-) In any case I already spoke with some wiki volunteers and, as in one month from now I will present my new music projects which are completely different from what I did in the past, they agreed I could cut or resume some text related with the remote past to have less content, more focused and better balanced between past and present. All the best, --Lturilli (talk) 18:20, 27 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Advice on Durch den Monsun edit

Hi, just need a bit of advice. So, I added an extra part on the "Durch den Monsun" article titled "Durch den Monsun 2020". I wrote, "The sound of "Durch den Monsun 2020" is very different to the original. While the original version is a pop -rock love song, the 2020 version is more of an electronic remix," and you put "[citation needed]" The information I got there was from listening to the original track and new track themselves and comparing the two. How would I go about referencing what can be heard in the tracks? Thanks. Bandit5660 (talk) 21:51, 3 October 2020 (BST) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.213.140.144 (talk)

I'm not Heiko but I'm sure his answer would be very similar: You need a reliable source to back your claim, otherwise it's original research and that is not allowed. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:49, 3 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the advice. I will see what I can do. Thanks again. Bandit5660 (talk) 00:00, 4 October 2020 (BST)

More advice on Durch den Monsun edit

Hi, sorry, me again. Just need more advice. So, I've heard from Tokio Hotel's official Instagram account that the English version of this single, titled "Monsoon 2020", is due for release on October 16th. When it comes out I'm thinking of merging the info of "Monsoon 2020" under the section "Durch den Monsun 2020", just to keep things concise, renaming the section of the page to "Durch den Monsun 2020 and Monsoon 2020". Not so long ago, I created an infobox for "Durch den Monsun 2020" as it was released by a different label, and other stuff. Do you think it'd be worth creating another infobox for the English version, so we have two separate infoboxes for the German version and the English version, or would you just use the existing infobox for both versions? Thanks. Bandit5660 (talk) 19:25, 5 October 2020 (BST)

Hi, "Durch den Monsun 2020" and "Monsoon 2020" are different-language versions of the same song, right? If so, I dont think we need another separate infobox. There are already 3 boxes, and it would be too much. And yes i think having a section "Durch den Monsun 2020 and Monsoon 2020" with both versions in it would be the way to go. Heiko Gerber (talk) 20:15, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, just wanted to make sure. I'll do that then. Bandit5660 (talk) 22:20, 5 October 2020 (BST)

Ingrid Bergman edit

Recently, you edited one of my additions, by changing curly apostrophes to straight apostrophes. Thank you for doing so. Do you have any idea as to why my iPad is making the quotation marks “curly”? How did you change them to the preferred “straight” apostrophes? I will try to figure this out, but thought I would ask. Until I do figure it out, and if you have the time, perhaps you would be kind enough to check the article for more of the offending curly apostrophes. Thank you very much for your edits to this article. Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 01:22, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, i dont know exactly what causes it; i dont use iOS so i dont know. On PC the apostrophes are straight by default, so I've never had them come up as curly. I already fixed the curly ones in the article with the help of the search function ;) Heiko Gerber (talk) 02:17, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
My thanks, for repairing my mistakes, and see comments below!Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 22:45, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Tribe of Tiger: On my Mac, I've disabled "smart quotes" just in Safari. On iOS, there's only a system-wide option. See https://bear.app/faq/How%20to%20disable%20smart%20quotes%20and%20dashes/ Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 08:29, 15 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Robby.is.on: Oh my, do I feel stupid. Yes, this is the source of the problem. I actually disabled this once before, in order to Move (several hundred) curly article titles to to Straight article titles. I changed it back, not realizing the effect it would have on my own "new edits" and additions to articles. Old person brain problems. Thanks your your help, I will never touch this setting again! YouTube “Channel” edit

Its still mostly referred to as "channel". just writing "VH1's Youtube" may confuse some people and make them think its a tv show by VH1 (like eg "MTV's Whatever") Heiko Gerber (talk) 13:47, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Regine Schumann edit

@Ymblanter: "Please also read WP:Vandalism, you clearly do not have a good understanding of it."--- could you elaborate on that please? Heiko Gerber (talk) 21:17, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

What you were reverting was clearly not vandalism. May be bad edits (which could have been figured out at the talk page), but certainly not vandalism.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:20, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

The delicious irony edit

After being reported for abusive behaviour and unconstructive editting User:Heiko Gerber responded by making various false allegations, including that the person who reported him/her was 'a perma-banned user', see [1].

The investigation of User:Heiko Gerber's behaviour by admins. not only rejected the false allegations but determined that User:Heiko Gerber was a sockpuppet account of a number of blocked accounts: [2], [3] & [4].
