Hi!

Hi! I see you've been making some nice contributions to the articles about Karaite Judaism and I just wanted to say hello to you, and thank you. I've been working on some of the same articles. I really think we need more information about Karaite Judaism on the English language Wikipedia, because IMO it seems to be an important part of preserving and continuing to develop Jewish cultural history. I have quite a bit of experience not only on English language Wikipedia, but on WikiEducator and Wikiversity as well.

I am a Rabbanite by birth and upbringing and Ashkenazi by ethnicity, but I believe in interpreting the Torah according to its plain meaning, don't think the Talmud and other rabbinic works have the force of law and am skeptical of the Mishnah. I grew up affiliated with the Conservative movement, which has made many reforms to the Rabbinic tradition but IMO does not give it enough of a theological challenge or apply a uniform enough standard of interpretation across all passages. Where are you located? I am in Brooklyn, New York, USA. The USA has the largest community of Jews outside Israel, many of whom are non-Orthodox and antirabbinic like me, and I suspect I am not alone in my beliefs. But most of them have not heard of Karaism and English-language Karaite resources are very hard to find. Perhaps we can collaborate on some articles? For example, there still seems to be plenty of bias and misinformation in the articles about early Karaite scholars, which is obvious even to someone who doesn't know the area. I have tried to help a bit with Anan ben David, but I don't know enough to really correct the bias and inaccuracies. There is quite a bit missing from the biographies of the other scholars, most of which have a similar bias.

Also, Szapszal's letter to the Ethiopian Jews (which you added) was really interesting. Do you know how the Ethiopian Jews responded? What do you think of Szapszal, as a person and as a leader? I've read and heard very mixed things about him, but can't find enough unbiased information to decide for myself. Also, did he really write the letter in English? In addition I think the letter belongs on Wikisource, the wiki for primary sources, rather than Wikipedia.

From Coren's talk page: Shalom, I read your notice that you found the similar info that I put into "Abraham Kefeli" in an other site. Thus, I am the member of the International Institute of the Crimean Karaites, and I have all Copy Rights given me by the director of the Institute Prof. Dr. Valentin Kefeli. Moreover, Abraham Kefeli is my friend.

If you have the permission to use materials copyrighted to third parties, you must first verify this by following the steps lined out at WP:PERMISSION before the material may be opened up to publication on Wikipedia. As we do not verify user identities upon account creation, the onus is on you, the contributor, to demonstrate that you have indeed been granted the permission to re-use the material.

Further, please be aware that in order to have an article on Wikipedia, its content must be verifiable through multiple independent third party reliable sources. Failing that, the article may be deleted regardless of copyright issues.

Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Until you can demonstrate that you do have permission to use the material as described above (see WP:PERMISSION), you may not re-add the copyrighted material to the Abraham Kefeli page. Letter to the Falashas

Hi,

The recent AfD discussion about this article concluded that the text of the letter itself should be transwikied to wikisource. In order to do that, the admins need to know "details of the translation, at least a year, preferably the translator's name and basic details as well." Would you happen to have this information so we can go forward? Once the text itself is moved to wikisource, the article itself may be worth rewriting to explain what the letter is about and how it is significant to Karaite Judaism. Have you been able to address this request? It would be a shame to have the document deleted and have your efforts go to waste. All we need is evidence that the translation is in the public domain.
