User page vandalism

No problem. I was going to block him though, and it would have been my first time! Never mind. (Don't you prefer an abusive, thereatening vandal, who then comes back and revises his spelling?) --Guinnog 01:20, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Adam Mickiewicz

Hi, I've had a similar debate with this user on List of Iberian Jews about the inclusion of people based on some essays saying they "might" have Jewish ancestors. The information has since been moved to another page (List of Iberian Jews/Cervantes and Columbus). For one thing, even having genealogical research isn't evidence enough that "possible Jewish ancestry" has a lack of a basis, noting the comment on the talk page "However, genealogical research makes such an assumption rather improbable." (Wiktor Weintraub, "The Poetry of Adam Mickiewicz")." The user has the impression that if anyone anywhere on the internet has a speculation that someone is Jewish, it has to be noted or otherwise it's "cenorship." LaGrange 02:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for reverting whatever the heck that was on my talk page, I really didn't know what to make of it. Cheers. Canadian-Bacon t c e 03:00, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Grateful if you could look into this. I have now given an absolute cast-iron reference, the Encyclopaedia Judaica, which states unequivocally that his mother was a Frankist Jew. can you please stop people deleting well-sourced information.--20.138.246.89 10:44, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

A question about an e-mail I received...

Have you ever received an e-mail from an editor who disagreed with a tag you placed on an article? I received one this morning from Mwhite66, who was confused by/disagreed with the tags I placed on the article Orbit Jet. Why he chose to send me an e-mail, how he got my e-mail address, and why he did not simply leave a message on my talk page, are all questions running through my head right now. I believe all of the tags are legitimate, and fail to see how or why he is confused by them. Have you ever faced a similar situation, and, if so, how did you respond? Thanks for your time, as always. ---Charles 16:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Project Elsewhere

Do you have any background on this project and the user associated with it? Dbuckner 17:17, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. I rapidly came to the same conclusion from reading through some of the talk pages JA was involved with. I agree pretty much with what he appears to be arguing for (some concept of 'expert' being recognised in WP) but I cannot agree with the methods being used here. I am trying to campaign 'within the law'. Unfortunately I signed up to the project without realising this. Silly. Thanks for your advice Dbuckner 07:12, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

And thanks for your message. I have no view in theory as to whether experts should have a special status in WP. I am thinking now of something like 'caretaker'. In any case, I'm trying to persuade the 'experts' that what they need to do is to persuade the community that there is any kind of problem at all. My main concern is that, in the area I am working in, there has been no kind of improvement over the three years I have been here. I would be interested to understand if you think there is any kind of problem at all in certain areas. Grateful for views. Dbuckner 15:37, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

On the other hand, you are an admin. You have accepted the concept of some kind of special privileges in the community. I have none, despite three years of banging away at new articles and defending them from all sorts of nonsense. A few people in our space have the same kind of frustration. Again, interested in your views.Dbuckner 15:46, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Felix's RFA

I read your deleted comments on his RFA. I hope if you choose to re-comment you can think of a kinder way of making your point. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arce (talkcontribs) .

Why do you think Felix has behaved as he has? Is it because he is a willful, malevolent vandal? I ask you, does he fit that profile? No, there is clearly something else going on here. An intelligent young man, who is very knowledgable obsessive about certain subjects but seems to lack basic social understanding. He seems unable to 'let go' of issues, he cannot take no for an answer and keeps repeatedly asking the same questions. He seems unable to understand the abstract ideas behind rules on copyright etc. His talk page suggests a range of interests below his actual age and more obessive behaviour - watching the same 3 videos every day.
What does that suggest to you? I don't want to say it here - I'm hoping you are intelligent enough to work it out for yourself. My eldest son is a fellow traveller with him, so it is something I know something about.
Assuming you are with me, I hope you can see why you need to make allowances for him in the same way I hope people will make allowances for my son when he is Felix's age. I know you've shown a lot of patience so far, all I am asking you to do is go the extra mile. Arce 23:59, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I have tried to follow instructions as closely as possible. However I kept meeting dead links. If this is some sort of initiative test, then it seems I have failed. Could these instructions be more clear ? I don't think the abilty of being able to decypher this process is a fair way to deselect people. From your comments you imply I am not the first to have trouble with this. I think potential administrators should be judged on theirs edits. Perhaps in the spirit of cooperation you could forward my nominatation for me. I would appreciate your help with this. Thank you. Djln--Djln 23:38, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Long-Overdue RfA Thanks from Alphachimp

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which was successful with a an overwhelmingly flattering and deeply humbling total of 138/2/2 (putting me #10 on the RfA WP:100). I guess infinite monkey theorem has been officially proven. Chimps really can get somewhere on Wikipedia.

Although probably not warranting a block under your disruption threat you put him/her under, I think you need to tell him/her to stop questioning my interpretation of the WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA policies, as he/she feels that they weren't justified. Although many users have explained to him/her that what he/she is doing currently (or in the past) isn't acceptable on Wikipedia, he/she is still disrupting my editing on Wikipedia by attacking my integrity by questioning my application of the policies. Train Station vs Railway Station

Inexplicably, the article about railway stations on Wikipedia is called Train Stations and the article Railway Stations is a protected page redirecting to Train Stations. I feel strongly that this is wrong. Can you please explain to me, step by step what I would need to do to have this changed so that the article and redirect were changed round the other way? Thanks matey. NLB 12:14, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice. This is wrong because it is poor grammar. Train Station has crept into the English Language in recent years, possibly because of comparison with Bus Station. Train station' is not listed in The Oxford English Dictionary, which would suggest it came into use only within the past twenty years or so. This is the subject of much correspondence in The Railway Magazine in the UK, which has an official editorial policy to always use Railway Station not Train Station.

RfA

Thanks for your note. Wow, coming from you, this means a lot. I would probably agree except for last week's stupidity where I was too tired to edit, misread some difs, and thought User:Trialsanderrors was one of a couple of immature people giving me a hard time over the Kross attack page deletion. I knew I wasn't thinking and left a note on User talk:Runcorn's to seek help sorting it out, but Trialsanderrors helped got me straightened out. Frankly, the episode is too recent and too embarrassing for me to feel comfortable about an RfA now. I'm mostly a Wikignome, so I was planning to wait a while anyway. So, I am interested, but now might be a bad time. Thanks again for thinking of me. With best regards,  :) Dlohcierekim 20:28, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for you second note. Thanks again for your confidence. If you don't think the Trialsanderrors fiasco disqualifies, me I must give this further thought. Cheers,  :) Dlohcierekim 20:35, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Gwernol, having given it further thought, I believe the community deserves some assurance that the incivility was an aberration. The best way to do that is to wait a while and then consider submitting an RfA. I hope to look forward to your support at a later time. Cheers,  :) Dlohcierekim 14:03, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

England (football clubs)

Thanks for stepping in - I was beginning to wonder whether any admins were monitoring this entry at all. I think it's a shame to have no clubs listed as it adds to the entry to have them in, but having none is better than having nonsense. Personally I would have thought that adding nonsense was vandalism rather than a content war, but I guess that's down to interpretation. The list of football clubs seems to be the least of the problems that the England article has faced recently - any reason why it isn't at least semi-protected? Thanks

Thank you for quick revert on my userpage. I had not even noticed the change, and you had already reverted it. This same fella has left numerous messages on my talkpage disagreeing with some speedy delete tags I placed on some articles he had written. I feel this is really a matter than needs to be looked at by an administrator. The articles he created have merit, but I speedied them as db-empty, because they amounted to nothing more than blind links to other sites. He seems to be a sincere editor, and wants to make a contribution, but he needs help from someone with more experience than I've got. Of course, whatever his feelings, vandalizing my userpage was uncalled for. I've refrained from saying anything further to him, just to avoid making the situation worse. ---Charles 22:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Re: Wiki Mirabeau

Isn't there the possibility this is a novice user who misunderstood the idea of adminship and thinks any "nice user" ought to be an admin? This novice user probably had no idea Jarlaxle had been blocked, or that User:Jarlaxle Artemis was somehow different from User:JarlaxleArtemis. Two World Wars, One World Cup is a typical newbie article. I have no idea where Mirabeau's thoughts on vandalism come from, but that alone is hardly enough for me to be convinced he/she is a troll. Steam Tractor pic

Hi. Thanks for adding that wonderful Steam tractor picture. I've never seen anything like it! It really does highlight the difference between the US and UK's understanding of what the term 'steam tractor' means - and really shows that it has no relation to a traction engine, apart from both being steam-powered, self-propelled machines. I suspect that there is nothing like this preserved in the UK, and that they were probably all made in North America. -- EdJogg 08:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi again. I note you've been busy creating Best Manufacturing Company. It is interesting how this company was a forerunner of Caterpillar Inc. Incidentally, I note that 'Caterpillar' needs linking back to 'Best M C', and also contains some info about steam tractors that could also usefully be copied to 'Best M C' and possibly 'steam tractors' too. I have already added a link in Best (disambiguation), but will leave you to wikify the products in 'Best Manufacturing Company' itself, as it's your baby... EdJogg 14:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Message received from you

Hello. I am rttd411. I did not know you could not put any commercial links on this site...Sorry. Under the External Links for "credit union" their are commercial sites (Ex. Credit Unions Online is a credit union directory providing searches of credit union Web sites worldwide.) Creditunionsl.com is a directory that is being put together to have all the credit union locations, phone numbers, and up-to-date information for the end user. The only commercial aspect of it is there are advertisers banners in some locations. With mortgage and hydrogen there were similar external links. Fastmortgageusa.net is changing to a mortgage news portal. Google already has over 2,000 articles index from it and they are adding news articles every day. Other than that I like this website alot. Please reply to this. Thanks --Rttd411 21:35, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for editing the iPod page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.168.38.88 (talkcontribs) .

Dealing with material not yet cited

Quite often there is proper material, but not yet a citation for the same. When necessary examples are needed for clarity, and there is nothing inherently "wrong" with the material, it would be far more helpful and instructive to add a small note "citation needed" in markup on the topic page, rather than to delete.

Unnecessary deletions discourage people from contributing. The editors whose additions are summarily erased as inadequate will get the message that they cannot insert anything into an article until they have the citation down in black and white. Now, we both know that a vast number of topics on Wikipedia are still uncited or have no or inadequate references, yet we don't go about deleting those pages of content.

I would urge you to foster the development of knowledgeable and enthusiastic editors rather than treading so heavily where it scarcely necessitates a "removal of vandalism"-type response.

That particular topic area has until recently experienced a long bout of bullying and virtually all contributors had been driven off. Give us a chance! You will find that flagging the issue is a challenge encouraging someone to rise up to meet it. It also gives the topic editors a chance to reflect on the material and discuss it. Thank you. User: Carfiend

You should read the archives on the Apollo Moon Landing hoax accusations page and observe this guy's behavior. Nothing works with this guy. He should be probably be blocked, but I guess he's not quite enough of a nuisance yet, plus all of his edits are dedicated to that one page, so he's been under the radar, mostly. Wahkeenah 23:46, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

  • He doesn't need any excuses to be a flamer, it comes naturally. If you read his history, you'll see he's been a disrupter from Day One. I've concluded it's all some sort of weird game he's playing, so I just can't take him seriously anymore, I have to have some fun with him. But I think I'll just have to wait for him to get blocked, because there is absolutely no point in trying to do any work on that article while he's around. Wahkeenah 23:57, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

User:Wahkeenah

The user Wahkeenah is intentionally starting fights with people posting within wikipedia guidelines. He has also called posters names (in violation of the good faith standard) not to mention causing general trouble. Can you do something about it? Thank you. 64.12.117.13 00:19, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

  • The IP address user insists on posting "homosexual" in Rosie O'Donnell's lead paragraph. The user has been told by at least one other user that that is not within wiki guidelines. Maybe you can clear up this matter. And if that IP address is right, I reckon we should start posting everyone's sexual orientation in their bio leadoff paragraph. Wahkeenah 00:39, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
    • Ok, they've reverted it yet again. I'm getting very tired of this. It is obvious that they have an agenda of labeling anyone who's gay. But before I do anything more on this, please weigh in on it. Wahkeenah 00:49, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Please do not change the topic header. I know you enjoy starting fights. Please stop. User:64.12.117.13 00:58, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
        • The topic originally restated the previous paragraph heading, and I thought I was fixing it. In any case, I'll see what I can do to avoid future blocks, as this one appeared to take down everyone on Minneapolis Comcast (or at least the user pages I know of that are Minneapolis-based). The article in question, Rosie O'Donnell, now belongs to that POV-pushing, personal-agenda-pushing user, as I am no longer watching it. Now, if you could do something about user Carfiend... Depressed

My article, which I have worked very hard on, is being deleted for no reason. The webcomic featured has over 1,000 hits already before release. I don't think its very fair that Britney Spears's fifth studio album, which has not been officially confirmed by press release, has an article. My webcomic is popular. It's coming out in 16 days. Why can't you all let it be? There is no reason to sit on a computer all day and be obsessive over rules. This isn't a personal attack, it's a prayer. I pray you all will spend more time with your families, and love them. Don't delete something I've been working on all night. I'm crying. Do you care? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dmurawski (talkcontribs) .

Imminent? I Don't Think So.

You are rude, and that's a fact, not a accusation. My article is not a promotional one. Do you see a link to the website, which is secretly up? No. Nowhere on my article will you ever find a promotional message. It's information, much like Wizard of Id's article. Are you going to delete that? Call it propaganda?

About banning me: I'm a nice, decent person who thoughtfully edits teen slang from many articles. You just can't see that right now, because I'm having a breakdown. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dmurawski (talkcontribs) .

Hi there, Gwernol!

Thank you so much for supporting my RfA! It ended up passing and I'm rather humbled by the support (and a bit surprised that it was snowballed a day early!). Please let me know if I can help you out and I welcome any comments, questions, or advice you wish to share.

Hello Good Buddy just wanted to let you know that I am back and better then ever. Later today the vandal bot will be unleashed on wikipedia and boy you clowns will have fun fixing all the entrys that it vandalizes. And yes I have made sure that the "Anti-Vandal Bot" is useless against my bot. Have a good day you idiot.

Talyllyn map

Well done on producing an excellent map and route description for Talyllyn Railway. I hope you don't mind, but I've made a couple of small tweaks to the route description. There are also a couple of minor errors to the map: Firstly the halt is Tynllwynhen (one word, without spaces or apostophe, or y before the double-l). There's a photo of the name board in "The Talyllyn Railway in Colour, page 112, if you have a copy. Secondly, Quarry Siding should have a capital S. I hope you don't mind these criticisms, as I know how much effort is required to producing maps. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  17:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

HAHAHA!

You crack me up! Do you really go around all night and day searching if articles were recreated? You better believe you will not stop me from putting that page up again after I receive more fan appeal. And if you object, take it up with the rules section, all notable things can have articles.

Even the Trash bin on Windows and Macs... each have an article... hmm... a trash bin, or a perfectly written, professional one about a webcomic. I don't know.

I KNOW you're a good person, inside, but please think about the rules before you delete an article. 75% of 1,000 people is basically the best a webcomic can get in 3 days.

Isn't there the possibility this is a novice user who misunderstood the idea of adminship and thinks any "nice user" ought to be an admin?

Thank you. He should be probably be blocked, but I guess he's not quite enough of a nuisance yet, plus all of his edits are dedicated to that one page, so he's been under the radar, mostly.

Barnstar

Since I copyedited the fascinating article you have done so much work on, I keep seeing little improvements you are doing. I think for us as admins to continue to work on things we love is vital. That way lies sanity. Anyhow, well done, and enjoy your (I think inaugural) possession of this award. --Guinnog 01:14, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Sláinte!
