Columbia River Treaty Outline

Tina, on my sandbox page is an outline for our article (below the pretty Dam pictures) Wls33 (talk) 20:34, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

American Bison Outline

Hi Tina. Sara posted the proposed outline for the American Bison on the article talk page, and we had some concerns by fellow Wikipedians. The concern is that there are too much content and it could possibly be unorganized if we added the section of Environmental History of Bison Conservation in Canada to the existing page.

User named Rivertorch posted: it looks as if there should be enough new content for a separate article (perhaps entitled Environmental history of bison conservation in Canada). Information from that article could then be summarized for a new section in this article. My concern is that placing text based on the above outline in this article will make this article too long and unbalance it. Keep in mind that this article is about the species as it exists (and existed) throughout North America; like other articles about species, it is deliberately general in scope. Please see our article talk page! American bison--Chaereankim (talk) 01:50, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestions Tina, we will be using Sara's page for the article draft! Sara Binns--Chaereankim (talk) 03:44, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
And yes, I think we should create a new article titled: History of bison conservation in Canada. Could you start this article? I also noticed a lot of other users suggested different titles!--Chaereankim (talk) 03:52, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
The title isn't set in stone, we can change it at any time. The Interior (Talk) 04:03, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

"Outsiders" comments and suggestions

Hi Tina, Two of the pages your students will be working on this semester are on my watchlist (W. A. C. Bennett Dam and Kenney Dam). I hope you don't mind having people from outside your class commenting and giving some pointers to your students while they write their articles as I have done in recent days. If you feel I went too far, please let me know. Good luck. Bouchecl (talk) 06:11, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Speaking for myself, but I'm sure the "dam geeks community" will be delighted to read better articles on topics such as the W. A. C. Bennett and Kenney Dams, since older dams are harder to write from a distance using (mainly) Internet sources. Local knowledge and a good reference library usually produce better results :). As for me, I regularly write about about Quebec dams. I edited Bersimis-1, Daniel-Johnson, as well as a few others in French. And I'm early in the process of overhauling the James Bay Project . So much to do and so little time ;) Bouchecl (talk) 19:01, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Testing the Talkback Function

Hello Sockeye Sam, I was just testing the talkback function, which avoids having a conversation in two places. Say you leave me a message on my User Talk page. Instead of replying on yours, I reply on MINE but leave you a message on yours that you have a message on my User Talk page. Get it?

You do that by inserting the following code: two curly brackets ( these { ) followed by tb|YOUR USERNAME, followed two curly brackets (i.e. these } ) Isn't that neat? --Greentina (talk) 18:08, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Got it. SockeyeSam (talk) 19:18, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Update on the Trail Smelter Dispute article

Hello Team Smoke! An update on where things stand with creating your new article. It seems that you need to get a start drafting it before it can be considered by the WP powers that are. Here's how you should proceed:

  • Each of you should draft your section of the article in your Sandbox, where your team mates will comment on it.
  • When each section is ready, you will "go live" by transferring what you wrote in the draft space that has been set up as a sub-page of Stephen's talk page. It is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SockeyeSam/Trail_Smelter_Dispute
  • You will see that Sliver has already put up your draft outline there
  • When a significant chunk of your article is done (maybe a third or a bit more of it?), we can then initiate the process of creating an article. Just let me know when you reach that stage. I would like it to be sooner rather than later so you can benefit from the feedback of the WP community.

Sound good? --Greentina (talk) 18:19, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Greentina, I have posted a message for you and the Interior on my talk page, but it looks like you message to Team Smoke, above might answer it. SockeyeSam (talk) 02:00, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Greentina, thanks for your help getting our article to go live, hopefully nobody finds anything objectionable about it. Sliver9754 (talk) 08:45, 22 March 2012

Recent Article on the Trail Smelter Case!

Hello Team Smoke, I just came across a newish article on the Trail Smelter dispute. It is in Technology and Culture vol. 52, 1, January 2011. I don't know how good it is, but it will have useful footnotes, and deals with the idea of the "commons" (which is part of the debate over air pollution). --Greentina (talk) 21:50, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Tina! Mike found this article as well; we will definitely be taking a good look at it. Thanks for helping us out! --Kelselle (talk) 23:09, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks again Tina, nice running into you today, I was starting to feel like I should move to the basement, close the shades and play video games for hoursSliver9754 (talk) 02:21, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

WAC Bennett Dam - References

Hey Team Bennett - You all win the prize for getting your intro done first of all the groups! Congrats on that. HOWEVER, if you look at the article, you'll see the references are a bit messed up. Would you please try to fix them? If you don't someone from the WP community will write you and ask the same thing. Might as well figure out how to do the references correctly! Congrats again! --Greentina (talk) 02:58, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out! I didn't realize they were messed up, I was just excited that I had finally figured out how to add footnotes! It was more difficult to figure out how to do links and citations than I thought but I think it's correct now! Normaromann (talk) 04:01, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Hell's Gate Slide - References

Hello Hell's Team - I see you've been hard at work. Good stuff - just one thing for now though: your references are messed up. There's an error message on your page. Please fix the refs: otherwise the wikipedians will ask you to! :-) --Greentina (talk) 04:25, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

I don't see an error message...? I saw it before, when you emailed me/us about it, and it was in red text. I see a working references section now, though... --Eye101 (talk) 04:34, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Columbia River Treaty Update

Hi Tina, our group has done our first "going live" piece. Claire and I both added our introductions of "Social Impacts" and "Environmental Impacts" to the Wikipedia article. I noticed that there are two reference lists now on the page, so I will have to talk to Billie from our group who is far more techy than me, and we will try to clean it up a bit. Thanks and I will see you class. Cayleym (talk) 05:13, 14 March 2012 (UTC)cayleym

Those durn sandboxes

Hey Tina. I should've mentioned this earlier. Those {{my sandbox}} templates are wonky: they go to the sandbox of whoever is clicking it. Just get the students to use the standard [[User:Example/sandbox]]. Oh, and I left and extra challenge for the Hell's Gate team at Talk:Hell's Gate, British Columbia :) The Interior (Talk) 04:09, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

The Sandbox

Hi Tina, I did set up a sandbox about a week ago. Its on my user page right before my article outline. Did I put it in the wrong place, or can you not see it? I have now put a section of my group's article in it, I hope it shows up for you! --Heatheralyse (talk) 07:24, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

No problem! I'm just happy that I did it right :) --Heatheralyse (talk) 04:04, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Reformatting the link to my sandbox

Hi, I read your message and think I have fixed the link to my sandbox. Hope this works, please let me know if you can view it now. When I posted on Tuesday, I thought the link would go to my sandbox, but I guess not. Hopefully the corrections I made works! Thank you! Tinah123 (talk) 07:14, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Tinah123

Sandbox Issues

Hi Tina, I think that I have set up my sandbox correctly. Thank you for the heads up. --Tborto1 (talk) 16:56, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Reference for Team Bison

Hey Team Bison, I just came across an article in the recent Economist about the reintroduction of Canadian Bison to Montana. Might be useful if you are writing about the situation today. --Greentina (talk) 02:04, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Cayleym Sandbox

Hi Tina, so I fixed "my sandbox" link, and I hope that will work. I am a bit confused though how this works, because when I am singed on and click "My sandbox" at the top of the page, it takes me to what I thought was my sandbox, but clearly that is not linked with the Sandbox label on my user page. Does that make sense? Anyway I think I have fixed but if not let me know. Thanks. Cayleym (talk) 02:17, 17 March 2012 (UTC)cayleym

Hopefully you should be able to see my sandbox now Tina! Thanks for all your help!
