Hi Graham, I've only now discovered the talk page.... Well as it happens I'm a bit slow to realize how things works on the net. Now I understand better. Then it is "A thousand and a voice" the Italian meaning of "Mille e una voce" is that in a single voice there are also one thousand different voices, and that is what the composer Luciano Berio said about the voice of Cathy Berberian, hence the title. So can I take away that 1,000 now and replace it with the exact version that you already suggested in your previous message and I overlooked? Thanks, Graham. I was struggling with the markup and of course, it all moves on very quickly. Thanks especially for solving that footnote problem. I just changed the sequence of columns so that film came before work because the film was the more important component so I put it second (after the composer).

Check out the music - unsurprisingly, many pieces are very dramatic and others quite moving. You might make some new favourites there, although many of the films use excerpts from already well-known pieces. Whiteghost.ink (talk) 01:35, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi Graham. Thanks for all your years of service volunteering here at Wikipedia. I saw you tried to fix my sig at VPP. I appreciate the help. I should note, however, that it wasn't a sig ~~~~ in the traditional sense. It was a timestamp ~~~~~ for RFC bot (talk · contribs), which it uses to determine when to add/remove the {{rfc}} template and also to determine what goes in to the summary listings at WP:RFC. Your answer on Wikipedia:Requests for page importation does not surprise me at all.
What surprised me was that I was guided to the "Request for page importation" when I started to look for ways to have a translated article. Thus I gave it a try, its a failure. Something is wrong in the guidelines for translated articles. I am sure some people devouted much time to help translate pages. But I did not find the proper ways. Sure enough I could just write a new article with all formating and add it to the English Wikipedia (I did that for Alfred Ilg). Jarble transcluding articles into other articles

Regarding this, you may be interested to know that I discussed the matter with him. As noted in that discussion on his talk page, one of his problematic editing styles is that he substantially duplicates article content...including a whole article into another article. Chuck Smith merge

Hi. Because I have Chuck Smith (pastor) on my watchlist, I saw your various deletions and moves. However, it is not at all clear to me what you actually did. It seems to have something to do with merging the talk page with that of User:Chuck SMITH. However, it seems quite clear to me that the two are not the same person (the user graduated from college in 2001 and works on video games and Esperanto, while the article subject has been a pastor since 1947), though there are a couple early messages on User talk:Chuck SMITH from tbc and from Wesley that apparently think that they are.

They're most definitely not the same person, but the Wikipedia user Chuck Smith edited in the days when Wikipedia had no namespaces, so his user page was at the title "Chuck Smith". Here's a copy of it from the Nostalgia Wikipedia. Its history was later moved to Chuck Smith (pastor). That is why I decided to merge some of the early edits of the talk page about the pastor with User talk:Chuck Smith. I actually did a similar operation on the article several years ago. Move of Dryden (disambiguation)

Hello, please don't move pages by cut and paste, as you did at Dryden (disambiguation). It fragments the page history, making it more difficult to determine who wrote what. If you can't rename a page yourself with the move function, add {{db-move}} to the target title and an admin will delete it to make way for the page move. With all due respect I can't even work out when or where I ever moved this page - neither of the two links in your post above are at all helpful - did this happen recently or a fair while ago? (like September last year?). Or are the "histories" still rather misleading, even after all your effort to get them back on track?

The only recent edit I did I immediately self-reverted when I realised it was unnecessary. All this involved was a bracketed "(especially)" before THE John Dryden's name (the which I cut myself as I realised there was little or no point to it). I must admit that I have reached the age where I no longer feel any real confidence in my memories of even what I did this morning - much less a good nine months ago; and in any case there seems little point in arguing the point - especially as you are (if I understand you correctly) not accusing me of doing anything "naughty", but only doing something clumsily. The worthwhile point is that "Dryden" on its own redirects to THE Dryden (John Dryden the poet) - and that this has a hatnote referring to the dab page (Dryden (disambiguation). "Dryden" going straight to a dab is almost as bad as "Beethoven", or "Shakespeare", or "Chaucer" going to a dab. The man is infinitely more famous than anyone else called Dryden. If I'm right - no need to apologise; if you're right - sorry, but I didn't mean to, honest. You moved the page last September; both the links above show your page move – the first link is where you moved the text and the second link is where you made a redirect to the author's page – but I appreciate that might be a bit hard to spot because of all the history switching I've done). Hi Graham, thanks for bringing the conflict of interest point over the page to my attention. I am a friend of an employee of the company, certainly, but this is not the main reason for me creating the page. There has been a lot of media interest in the company over recent weeks (on Channel 10 news, articles in the Courier Mail, Weekend Australian etc) and therefore I read the wiki article on notability and have assumed this makes the company notable enough for inclusion. I had a look at their existing page which was deleted and I agree was completely promotional. However, I also note that other trampoline pages like Springfree Trampoline are written MUCH more promotionally than the one I wrote! It matters to me as I'm sure it would matter to any volunteer editor. The redirects created should just go to the article I've created. The redirect histories will be there but I will still have credit for creating the article. Also, you've not answered my question. Do you know anything about the subject? Just because you're an admin, doesn't mean you aren't required to discuss matters first. You've taken it in hand to just do something that wasn't causing any problems on wikipedia. You're welcome for what little I did; I'm not too happy about it either, but as I think we've all said by now, there are bigger fish to fry. :) It wouldn't have been out of policy to delete the redirect history and then just move the page to the new title without a histmerge; db-move does cover that. I liked your solution better, as I don't see any real reason to delete the history, but doing so seemed like the easiest way to end what was really an absurd argument (that was starting to get nasty) and not outside of policy, so I figured it was for the best. Red Links

Hi Graham87, Wow! Since 2011? How did you do THAT. I'm fascinated. Please explain. Thanks.

Red links refer to pp. that don't exist. Pls explain how they help WP grow. Don't understand. It seems more logical to me that if someone thinks a person or thing deserves an article, and is motivated enough to begin one, they should go for it. I was told when I started getting involved with WP (and as you, learned, I read a lot of stuff in WP) that red links were "faulty" and should be de-linked. The guideline WP:REDLINK says that page name should be redlinked "to indicate that a page will be created soon or that an article should be created for the topic because the subject is notable and verifiable". The guideline further says: "do not overlink in the mainspace solely for use as an article creation guide. Instead, editors are encouraged to consider Write the article first, or to use WikiProjects or user spaces to keep track of unwritten articles. Articles should not have red links to topics that are not likely to have an article". Hi there, so if it's controversal, why would you you decide unilaterally to go back 2 years and revert all my edits of which, let's say, half of WP editors would approve? And certainly, many, if not most, of the red links I removed (like titles of obscure films) referred to "topics that are not likely to have an article." Just seems like a strange thing to do. To follow guidelines, it seems, one should have to analyze each instance and make an individual judgment about whether the subject deserves a red link or not. Personally, I agree with Ssilvers' argument. Oh well, I'm not invested in this, really just curious. Activating Africa

Dear Graham87

You have put your name down as being interested in attending the the Activating Africa panel that will take place on the Sunday the 11 August in the Jockey Club Auditorium (just before the Closing Plenary). If you are working on a project related to Africa, please see the email below. If you are just interested to attend, then we look forward to seeing you there!

The idea behind the panel is to set out the need, see what is going on across the continent, and discuss what is possible in the immediate future. Here is the submission page to refresh your memory. There are two problems that this panel presents: One: there are too many stories that need to be told and discussed that make it difficult to give full representation of the landscape in 90 minutes; Two: given the costs involved, and the scholarship system, there are not enough people from Africa attending Wikimania to make sure everything is covered, and all the people, ideas, thoughts and realities heard.

With this in mind we want to shake expectations and make the Activating Africa panel a version of Pecha Kucha [www.pechakucha.org]. This means that 6 presenters present 20 slides, with 20 seconds per slide (this works out to just over 6 minutes per presentation with another 3 mins for questions for each presentation). The joy of this format is that we can ask people who are not at Wikimania to send through pre-recorded presentations (and, possibly, link up with them via skype to answer questions). Tech-willing, we will also investigate if there is a way we can make the whole session live. This format extends the conversation beyond just the people who managed to get scholarships to attend. As an extension of the panel, we will also create an Activating Africa website that allows for the conversation to extend beyond Wikimania, and back to Africa.

Here is the structure for the session:

• 10 minute intro – setting the stage about why Africa needs Wikipedia, and especially why Wikipedia needs Africa.
• 6 x 20 slide x 20 sec presentations of projects or wiki-relevant experience that have or are taking place across Africa.
• 20 minutes debate on the future of engagement in Africa – this will include 2 minute (max.) presentations about projects that are planned or ideas for future projects.

I'm curious if the 2nd example is keyboard accessible (should be, but has no action) and still identifies as a header as well. I'd also like to know if the 3rd example is recognized as both a header and a button or (as I presume it will) as just a header. Worst case scenario the 3rd table might register as none of those, which would be really bad. I would prefer to implement the 3rd table. Hmm, that truly is a shame. Once again it seems that progressive enhancement is not possible and I need to go with a graceful degradation strategy. I have updated the case to add actual events to the headers, just as with table sorter, but instead they will present Alert screens. The intent is that it should be clear to you that the header doubles as button (to change sortorder) and that using enter will present the alert. All three headers have these JS events. On table 1, it should be a click only event, that should not be executable to you with pure keyboard access (requires click), unless you have configured your JAWS to map all clickhandlers automatically. Table 2 should be able to trigger the alert from keyboard, but it might not identify itself as a button, just as a header. The third table should present itself as a header with as secondary role button, but I think we can conclude this likely isn't properly supported by JAWS. OK, the header in table 2 should be focusable and thus reachable with tab, whereas the definition of table 1 is not required to be reachable with tab. So if the click action is accessible for you there, then it is indeed smart interpretation of JAWS, but it might be presented differently by other screenreaders. I also realized I made a critical error in table 3, by using "header" where I should have used "columnheader" as the primary role value, I wonder if it makes a difference in the updated example. This has now been merged into the codebase and can be previewed on our beta labs before it is deployed. After a bit of practice with this, I think I'll be trying to add some more ARIA sugar. I'm going to be adding labels to the various navigation landmarks, implement the aria tablist controls for the Special:Preferences page and then take on the collapsible elements in the navigation landmark and the collapsible elements. Split article?

A bit music for you: Wolfgang Katschner and his Lautten Compagney played a great concert! I found that en-WP has the conductor, whereas de-WP has the orchestra, and - perhaps a little fast, moved the conductor to the orchestra. Now we have wrong cats, BLP etc., sorry. I sort of put the clue in the job title. I was originally examining alternative spellings to Wikipedia and Encyclopedia. My original intention was to insert an entry such as:

Wikipaedia: A classic contemporary English spelling and synonym of Wikipedia.

Originally, there was no entry or redirection but being half-Scottish I found these spellings on the Scots Leid pages. Subsequent searching on Google and Wikimedia (with combinations that included Britanicca) led me to the Takeover Entry. I had included Encyclopaedia Britanicca due to it's Scottish historical roots. Well, I wasn't too precise, the "more" was wrong.
