Barnstar

The Original Barnstar
This is for being friendly, and also being a very hard working wikipedian. Enjoy!!! Sir James Paul, La gloria è a dio 02:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :) Wikipedia is such a wonderful distraction from real life, and I'm honored that you think that of me. mmmmm... *Gracenotes eats barnstar, chokes, dies* --GracenotesT § 05:26, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Amazon release dates of Black Flag

I believe the release date is for the CD release. It probably is a mistake on behalf of Amazon. It's not much of a significant release anyways. I'm not much of an expert on this to tell you the truth, but the catalog numbers should probably be enough proof of the year (and what order) certain albums were released in. 24.149.167.19 05:40, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Tomaš/Tomas event

User:The Wilky Bar Kid appears to be a Russian user with knowledge of Croatian who has gone around renaming some articles which he has assumed are incorrent (there are many articles lacking proper characters). Unfortunately, this assumption has proven incorrect. You can see this here: [1]. --Thewanderer 18:33, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding my comment on User talk:69.148.94.220

Yes I did mean he would be blocked if he keep svandalising the page. I don't know why you are telling him to ignore me. This person have been adding false members to the list of band members for some time now, at first it was all on one ip, but now he is getting knew ones like the one for this account. It is quite obvious this is the same person, as the always make the same specific edit. I don't know whether they can be banned because they technically are not breaking the three revert rule as they do it on different ip's, but I do not think they should be encouraged to continue editing.Hoponpop69 06:07, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Help in IRC

Just wanted to thank you again for all the help you gave me in IRC. --Zapvet 01:21, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

User:Jackmls

Found another one of those Why not create account? (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) sockpuppets/impersonators, Jackmls (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). This time he forgot to subst {{Wikipedia:Manual of style}}, fooling us by making us think he only added 1,500 characters. Am in college now, I'll see you on IRC when I get home! Regards, Tuxide 23:27, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Found yet another one, Rohr33 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Check out what he did to his own talk page. Tuxide 01:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Disappearing list

Yes, I saw it on the page, as I had to preview while editing, since I couldn't tell otherwise which plants were linked by species and which by genera only, if at all to various articles, and had to check the formatting since it had multiple italics, varieties that could not be italicized, and AFTER I posted it, I went back and clicked on Fabaceae from the page, since I forgot to check in the end whether I had moved the Acacias up to Fabaceae, since IPNI subdivides, then decided to check the Fabaceae as one of problem articles mentioned by another user, and clicked on Fabaceae on the Talk:John Carne Bidwill page from my post, then closed it, posted on the Talk:Plant page a comment about the Fabaceae, left my computer, came back because I got distracted by looking at the Fabaceae and the comment on plant page, and realized I hadn't checked on the Acacias, and it's gone. This is incredibly frustrating. KP Botany 03:52, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting my mistake

Thanks for this, correcting my mistake here. I hadn't seen this. I'll be more careful next time, and I'll apologise to Ryulong and Ral. Thanks for correcting it so quickly. Carcharoth 11:34, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Template:Nothing

Hello. I am currently not using the template in question anymore, so you can do what you wish with it. -- Where 15:02, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Gracenotes, I belive that this page is not a real article but some kind of a joke. I think you will agree after reading th first few paragraphs. please check this, Tsviqa

Nutshell

Thanks for catching it and fixing it right away. I saw the problem on the preview, and thought I fixed it before hitting save, but who knows what happened? Anyway it would have been a big mess if you didn't get it. Dhaluza 04:05, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

User:Blueplatypus5000 and User:Blueplatypus500

I found a sockpuppet of Blueplatypus5000 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), just to yet you know. You prodded his userpage this morning, and guess what? There's also a Blueplatypus500 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) as well. Flickr link removal

I'm going to be removing flickr links from articles soon, because

  1. WP:RS, not a reliable source for proving things
  2. WP:NOT#REPOSITORY, Wikipedia is not meant to show off external links for a subject
  3. WP:EL, if the article were featured, it would be on the wiki, not linked
  4. WP:NOT#SOCIAL, it's a link to a social networking site (Flickr groups)

--GracenotesT § 04:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Transparency is nice. How did you come across my talk page?

I liked your random quote feature, and copied it to my userpage.

I saw you asked Interiot about #wikipedia-en-functionaries. I don't use IRC that often, but perhaps I would if the discussion was more focused on Wikipedia. What exactly do people talk about in functionaries? Λυδαcιτγ 20:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Marc Wootton on Wikipedia

Hi Gracenotes

Just seen your edits to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Wootton

I wonder if it would be possible if you could allow the addition of Marc Wootton's OFFICIAL Myspace link to remain on his Wikipedia page? (Apologies for putting it on again before checking with you first - I hope that is ok? I put it on again, thinking I hadn't "saved the page" - then I checked in the "history" page and saw the edits - (I am new to Wikipedia and haven't got round to getting a Username yet).

I realised it had been removed when I saw your comment:

"rv myspace, doesn't add any encyclopedically (sp) useful information about the article's subject)"

I disagree, as, his Myspace provides links to his website, blog, career information, and manager etc etc. i.e. it does supply useful info about Marc Wootton and his career.

Also other British comedians on Wikipedia, see the Mitchell and Webb page on Wikipedia has a link to their Myspace - so why shouldn't Marc Wootton's Wikipedia page have a link to his Myspace?

see under "EXTERNAL LINKS" - here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitchell_and_Webb_Look#External_links

There is also a link to British comedian Richard Herring's Myspace in external links - see here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Herring

Why does Wikipedia allow these?

And there are many more similar examples.

You cannot have it both ways - either Wikipedia allows links to comedian's Myspace or it doesn't - otherwise you are being inconsistent.

Kind regards

P

p.s. I have never editied/vandalised a page about The Chuckle Brothers - maybe there is a confusion with non-logged in users?

Thanks

Myspace on Wikipedia

...you forgot to take Jimmy Carr's Myspace link off...

...and every other comedian

Talk Main page

Hi, the big STOP box has always been there. I hid it in a <!-- HTML comment --> a while ago after a load of vandals kept editing it seemingly in response as if it were a taunt. (hence the ref to beans) Since it was hidden there's been no vandalism of that nature. I thought I'd pop it back for a few days just to see if the vandals start attacking it again before I remove it entirely.

The form over function ref was regarding trying out not having a TOC at all. Now I know that I DO use the TOC from time to time. But on talk main page it often reaches long lengths, pushing the discussion several pages down. I was seeing if anyone would really miss it. It's a simple matter to pop it back if anyone wants it. (PS form over function is a designer's in joke in case you're out of that particular loop)

Trapping the TOC in a table broke the layout on three browsers I tried, so that would need a bit of fiddling to get it to work cross-browser. Plus there's the concern of varying length of the TOC messing with table and div layout to consider. I've been trying to work out if we could get a multi column TOC that fills the page width. - That would be a good use of space. All the multi-col layout templates I know of require a manual break in text to denote the column ends. Any ideas? --Monotonehell 11:38, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, I didn't think of a scrolling box. Genius! The only "problem" is the large white space on the left now. Perhaps we could put the contents to the left instead, that way the archive list has room to grow into? --Monotonehell 12:56, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Since someone else noticed, I went ahead and included your creation. I did however shift it to the left column as I suggested, that way the ever expanding archives list has somewhere in which to grow. Yours was a great idea! --Monotonehell 13:34, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for your help on Life University and with user 69.85.160.11. Please peruse this user's edit history... not a lot Wikiquette going on there. I am at WP:AGF level three with the warning templates on this user's talk page. Levine2112 04:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

The Barnstar of Good Humor
I award you this barnstar for making laugh which isn't bad for just getting in the office on a Monday morning. I have all the templates in my watchlist and a couple of your comments whilst editing for the series stuff brightened my day, particularly awesomeness ensues which is now my quote for the day. Jimmy Carr on Wikipedia

As Wikipedia don't allow links to "social sites" such as Myspace - why is there a link to Jimmy Carr's on his Wikipedia page? see under "External Links"

Anna Nicole Smith Refs

Good job cleaning up the Anna Nicole Smith refs. Sorry if any of my vandal reverts are taking out valid edits. Good thing that the article was promptly semi-protected to prevent collateral damage.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 21:47, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
