Cobham Logo Image

You edited the summary of Image:Cobham.svg, with a comment (The NFIR is smaller). Meaning? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.137.21.190 (talk) 21:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC) sorry i forgot to sign in. my username: user:alexsheppard11

There's generally no need to add the {{logo fur}} template again when the image is used on more than one page - {{non-free image rationale}} (NFIR) or similar will suffice for secondary pages (as it is less cumbersome and repetitive to read on the page). Best, Gr1st (talk) 21:43, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok but on the talk page of one of the pages linking to the image a bot said I had to? Talk:Cobham_Sports_and_Social_Club. Alex Sheppard (talk) 22:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, when the bot tagged the image there was no fair-use rationale of any kind for Cobham Sports and Social Club (here's the bot's revision). I subsequently added the rationale (here). Best, Gr1st (talk) 22:21, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

I have 5 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Aixtron.svg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aixtron.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Logos images

The user who uploaded, User:CoolKid1993‎ , has a history of creating not quite accurate logos himself and replacing the prior FU logos. His have slightly different fonts, styles, colours, etc. A discussion on WP:AN decided bad logos were a copyright violation, as companies have strict designed for their logos, and that he should stop and focus his skills elsewhere that graphics were needed. I've been slowly undoing his actions for a while. --Stephen 21:52, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, missed the later version was yours. Restored. --Stephen 22:14, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that you had uploaded a logo for PricewaterhouseCoopers and posted a link for the source pdf. When I downloaded the pdf and tried to open it, I found that it was password protected and that I could not open it. How were you able to open the document?Cheeselouise (talk) 21:44, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Web hosters

I think that individual web hosters aren't notable per se. How many other web hosters are there in the wikipedia? I found about 1 or 2. They rarely if ever seem to do anything that is worth writing about. If an article organically grew out of another article that would be one thing, in fact that would be absolutely fine in my book, but aplus.net is just advertising written by a bunch of COI socks.- (User) WolfKeeper (Talk) 15:00, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:FLAGS

Where exactly does WP:FLAGS say that all the additions I made were incorrect? They help in showing the nationality of the company, and are therefore not solely decorative, and definately not used to 'excess'. 81.76.33.219 (talk) 01:02, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

There's nothing explicitly written about use of flags in infoboxes, but there has been a broad consensus developed over the talk pages that they should in most cases be discouraged per the guideline: flag and other icons are commonly misused as decoration. Adding a country's flag next to its name does not provide additional encyclopedic information... In summary, flags don't help in showing the nationality of the company - anyone who can read can see it easily since the country name is written in text. As an example, I can't imagine that there is a class of Wikipedia reader who will be genuinely assisted in finding out the nationality by seeing "  Paris, France" instead of simply "Paris, France": the country name is clearly stated. But that's just my opinion. You're welcome to start a specific discussion on company infoboxes to establish a firm consensus at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (flags). Cheers, Gr1st (talk) 11:10, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
But surely there's a chance that it does help some readers, and it's certainly not hurting having them there? Atleast you explained your decision then, to be honest I don't care enough to challenge it! 81.76.33.219 (talk) 19:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't deny that it's a moot point, but it seems to me that the balance lies with the anti-flag brigade at the moment. Gr1st (talk) 19:51, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
