Fair use disputed for Image:MarvinAndTamara.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:MarvinAndTamara.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:34, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:NipTuck s3(2).jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:NipTuck s3(2).jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:45, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:SClubPartyLive.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SClubPartyLive.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 17Drew 17:15, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

I've just reviewed S Club for GA status. However, there are a number of issues with the article, so I've placed it on hold until 20 October. See Talk:S Club. CloudNine 10:36, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Hannah Spearritt image

The key clause with regards to Wikipedia's fair use policy is #12 in the unacceptable images section: "Pictures of people still alive, groups still active, and buildings still standing; provided that taking a new free picture as a replacement (which is almost always considered possible) would serve the same encyclopedic purpose as the non-free image." Last I looked, Hannah was still very much alive, so that is why I removed the non-free image. Tabercil 21:54, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

  • You pretty much have it. Now mind you, there are sources for suitable free use images... Flickr is one such place. A fellow user wrote a very nice little essay on the topic with some good advice and pointers, which can be read here. Tabercil 12:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I edited the article a bit more (added references, tidied it up a little) but if you have time, would you be able to look over it and see if there are any grammar errors etc. to fix? Minor edits

Hi there, thanks for contributing to the Amy Studt article. It's good to see some positive input over there. I'd like to bother you with one little thing though: your usage of the minor edit checkbox. It is meant to be used on edits that need no review whatsoever, it should (for example) not be used when adding content. Please also review my interpretation of this rule here: Help:Minor edit. So... I'd like to ask you to change the way in which you use the minor edit checkbox. With the uttermost respect of course, my fellow editor. Enjoy. -- Pepve (talk) 18:37, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestions for S Club

Hi Mikay!

Here are some suggestions for the S Club; overall it seems pretty good! :)

  • I would put more information into the lead; the lead should be a capsule summary of the main text, right? For example, you might list the four television series that they were in by name, so that when the reader sees them in the main text, they'll say, "Oh yes, I've heard that before!" A fuller description of their musical evolution and/or unusual songs such as "Never Had a Dream Come True" might be good, too. Finally, you might say something about their charity work, both before and after they were together?
  • I would also organize the lead more, putting related things together. For example, you might list all their prizes in one paragraph and discuss other things elsewhere. You want to have a strong sense of flow, not jumping back and forth.
  • Try to sketch your subject in broad strokes before discussing the details. For example, the exact rank at which their album "Sunshine" topped out is less important for the average reader than understanding that S Club were near the top for a long time and their music evolved in interesting ways.
  • Go through and make sure that you clarify for the reader what everything is without having to follow the wikilinks. For example, instead of saying "Even as early on as 7, the song styles were beginning...", you might say, "Even as early as their second album, 7, their song styles were beginning..."
  • Short paragraphs (esp. 1-2 sentences) can make writing choppy and difficult to follow. Try to weave the thoughts together into longer paragraphs, and work on having a strong flow between paragraphs, so that even readers with short attention spans can stick with you. :)
  • That was happy news yesterday about Jo O'Meara, no? I'll confess, I was surprised and upset by that whole affair, but it's nice to know that people can learn and improve themselves.
  • You might have more discussion of the people making up S Club, what their different personas are or at least presented to be. (My favorite was Hannah, but that's irrelevant.) More individual pictures of the band members or a caption telling who's who in the S Club Party picture would probably be good. A sentence or two about their age(s) might also be appropriate for setting context, e.g., "The band members were all roughly 20 years old when they first started recording in 1997."
  • The connection between video and music might be worth exploring more, possibly by relating S Club to the history of other pop bands? Maybe The Monkees were the first in that line?
  • I like the use of sound snippets, although I'm not sure that everyone will. I'm just saying, so that you won't be surprised if it comes up.

I'm not very good at this, so you probably want to ask other people for help as well. I had a list with more notes, but I seem to have misplaced it; I'll write with more suggestions once I find it again! A little ditzy, Willow (talk) 21:23, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Itsnevereasybeingcheesy.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Itsnevereasybeingcheesy.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. - AWeenieMan (talk) 23:46, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Former cast members in Skins

Hey Mikay. I noticed that you seperated the "Parents" section into " Parents" and "Former Characters". I just wanted to ask you for your opinion on the need for this change. Is this section "Former cast members" on the front page of the Skins page really necessary?

Well basically, It's only the parents in the "former character" list and there is no other characters who are not parents mentioned in that section (i.e. Angie) The Parents category is only a list of the actors that play the main character's parents, and the majority of them, I might add are on the front page as they are well known actors. It's only a collective list of theactors who have appeared as parents during the course of the series. Also, How do we know that a certain parent has left the series, Cassie's parents for example? Do we know for certain that they have left the show for good.?

Also, a good part of these kids' parents will most likely be seen in one or two episodes, and are only used when needed. If you wanted to separate the current characters with the former characters in the better fashion, why not do it in the "Characters in Skins page" which is linked to in the "Characters" section of the front page (where all the smaller characters are listed from each episode? This is a page where there are character descriptions under each character's (minor or major) name and that can lead itself to be seperated into Current and former characters? Thanks for reading. 69.28.232.214 (talk) 21:37, 1 March 2008 (UTC)samusek2

I agree. However, my intention was not to split Parents and Former Characters.. it was more of a split between Current Characters and Former Characters, it just so happened that all the former characters listed were parents. I see your point about Cassie's parents, and I guess it would be better to reinclude them.

I also like your idea about a separate page. The The O.C. character page is particularly impressive. Maybe adopt a similar approach for this article?

Thanks for messaging me. Wikipedia is all about sharing ideas. :) - ǀ Mikay ǀ 16:33, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

You're very welcome, Mikay. I think what happened was that after some people saw last week's episode with Sid's father dying, someone decided to add a little disclaimer next to the actor's name in the list saying he had left the show, which was not there previously (for any character). That's what probably prompted you. Sorry to bother you, but would you possibly contribute something to the discussion page on the Skins page on this topic? That would be great.

I also wanted to let you know that there is already a page about all the characters on the show linked right above the initial list on the front page, so perhaps that page can be sorted with Former and current characters. The list on the main page , which had a parents section before I first saw it, has a different feel to it. Otherwise, there would be more secondary characters there and not just parents featured. Thanks!69.28.232.214 (talk) 23:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Samusek2

P.S.: If there's one comment in general, it would be to fuse a few sentences together for better fluency. As for recommendations, this guy is really great. --LaPianísta! 02:22, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

The S Club

Remove that After S Club section. The article is about The S Club, not its members and what happened to them in their lives. All those images have to go I'm afraid, you cannot use screenshots from videos/movies for identifying people nor do those pics significantly add to an article about S Club. The only acceptable image this article can have (for identification purposes) is a promotional picture of the entire band for the infobox. indopug (talk) 11:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

For the infobox, any promo pic would be fine; say from the band's website etc. In the fair-use rationale remember to include that "since the band has disbanded, it is not possible to get a free alternative." The reason the previous pic didn't work is that since it was a screenshot, fair-use requires the prose to discuss the video in question (however, the pic was being used for identification purposes) :) indopug (talk) 15:49, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SClubPartyLive.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:SClubPartyLive.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:06, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
