How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Disambiguation link notification for January 8 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lambeau Leap, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Leap Day. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

DYK for Lambeau Leap edit

On 22 January 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lambeau Leap, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby performed a Lambeau Leap after a game-winning field goal, even though it is usually only done as a touchdown celebration? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lambeau Leap. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Lambeau Leap), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Dez Caught It Game edit

Hello, what's your opinion on changing adding 'Dez Caught It' to title of the Packers-Cowboys divisional round game from the 2014 season? It's an accepted nickname for the game and although you are redirected to the page by searching for Dez Caught It, I think adding it to the title would allow for a more appealing article. I think it is fun to have game nicknames as the title of these pages, for example: Minneapolis Miracle, Epic in Miami, etc, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Botwin2015 (talkcontribs) 20:52, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Botwin2015, I appreciate you reaching out via my talk page. Article names are generally covered under our WP:COMMONNAME policy. Unlike Fail Mary or Minneapolis Miracle, this game doesn't seem to be as widely known by a standard name. If you think otherwise, I would recommend you go through a {{Requested move}} process, making sure to provide reliable sources that back up "Dez Caught It" as the common name for this game. If the community agrees, the whole article will be moved to the new title. Thanks, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:02, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wanderlei Silva edit

Hi. I see you have been addressing the page protections. Please could you address Wanderlei Silva, as it might have been missed and is being vandalized with alarming regularity. Thanks.NEDOCHAN (talk) 14:47, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

NEDOCHAN, don't worry, an admin will get to it. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:04, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi. I understand your point but it does seem a little strange to me that dozens of requests for pp have been reviewed since this one. Several vandalism edits have been made since I asked about this. Out of interest, is there any reason you think my request might not have been looked at as quickly as others? If there is, I'd like to know how to avoid it in future. At the time of writing this message, it's still not been looked at.NEDOCHAN (talk) 00:53, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
NEDOCHAN, there are really two types of articles that warrant protection: pages that are getting slammed with vandalism every few minutes, and articles that have long-term issues. The ones that are getting slammed are usually easier or quicker to address. The one you had just required a little more review time and I just didn't have the time. Sometimes there is no reason other than people aren't available to do it. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:19, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I see. Thanks, I just wanted to check I hadn't got it slightly wrong. Cheers. NEDOCHAN (talk) 16:48, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rich Bisaccia edit

Hi Gonzo Fan, I'm sorry to bother you, but there's an editor that keeps adding a premature hiring update on Rich Bisaccia's page. I can't keep reverting each time it's added, but I posted two warnings on their talk page and have already broken the 3RR, so I don't want to continue. To my knowledge, Bisaccias hiring is 100% expected, but not confirmed by official announcement. Can you help me with this by chance? I don't know how else to handle that. They havent responded to my talk page messages and keep re-adding the information. Thank you! Spf121188 (talk) 18:25, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also, for context, I did add a template to the page for recent hires. Just wanted to make sure in the future I handle these things correctly. Spf121188 (talk) 18:26, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Spf121188, I protected it for a week. Let's see if that helps get us to a formal announcement. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:36, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your help! Hopefully it gets announced soon. Spf121188 (talk) 21:47, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
