Template:Charles III task force

FYI, now that {{London Bridge task force}} has been merged, I am not sure if this one should be merged as well. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:08, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

Question

Re: the top icon deletions. Was it all countries, states, cities, (locales etc.) that were to be deleted, or just the few put up for TfD that day? - wolf 08:10, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of King Shark (disambiguation)

The article King Shark (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:2DABS

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A few TFDs of interest

You might be interested in perusing Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2023 November 28. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:20, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Yeah I saw those. I usually tend to wait a few days to see if there are any keep arguments and see if they have any substance to them. I can't believe there are still templates from that editor that can be sent to TfD. I looked over their page and stopped counting after 200 template deletions. Gonnym (talk) 17:28, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
I stumbled across one today, and it led me to links to a giant pile of them. I suspect that some of them are newly unused after the hundreds of previous deletions eliminated some transclusions. I won't be surprised if there are 100 more. There were a few that I looked at today that are questionable, but I wanted to TFD only the slam dunks. P.S. There are 343 TFD notices on the editor's talk page. P.P.S. I love that we don't mention the editor's name, Voldemort-style. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:57, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Survivor – A sziget Seasons Infobox

Hello,

You mentioned that there aren't any italics for the previous and next seasons in the infobox for seasons of Survivor - A sziget; that italic's aren't meant to be in the infobox. Can you show me where it states that as I haven't heard about that whatsoever and I don't want to revert your edit without there being any clarity and to avoid a potential edit war? Cheers. Nintenga (talk) 23:19, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

MOS:ITALICS - we don't use italics for random words. The word "Season 1" isn't one of the words we use italics for. Gonnym (talk) 04:53, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, I appreciate it. Wasn't aware of that. Nintenga (talk) 15:14, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

John Kilpatrick Turnpike

If it is "West End" and "East End", then why is it when I look at streetview going from State Route 152 onto John Kilpatrick Turnpike it says "West" John Kilpatrick Turnpike if it is the West end and or going to the East end? NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 22:13, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Runaways (TV series) into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. Editor of the Week

  Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:OlifanofmrTennant submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Gonnym to be Editor of the Week. He has created over 10,000 pages and has inspired others to do the same. Over a 12 year period on Wikipedia he has made over 60,000 edits to the main space and an additional hundred thousand in other spaces. But, a look at Gonnyms archives shows an editor that has been lacking the recognition he deserves. This will fix that quandary. He is a busy member of both Wikipedia:WikiProject Film and Wikipedia:WikiProject Television.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Infobox In Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 6

Slogan And Translation Are There in Every Bigg Boss Article And Is Necessary. As Of Now I am Not Re-Adding Those; Also I Am Not The One Who Added These First. But Note That Slogan And Translation Will Be Added After Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 6's New Theme And Slogan Has Released. Thereafter Don't Remove These From The Article.. Alen Hermen (talk) 06:22, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

So those 6 articles are doing these wrong. The reality infobox is used on 3500~ articles that don't misuse the infobox to add incorrect parameters into the caption or add trivial information altogether. If you feel that slogan should be added to the infobox, propose it at the template page and see if others agree. Gonnym (talk) 06:26, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
See-I was not The one who added these first. But These are essential. How is it a Problem. Adding these doesn't affect all the 3500 articles.. Alen Hermen (talk) 06:35, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
It does not matter who added the information. It also does not matter that it does not affect the other transclusions. The template is designed by community consensus on which parameters are available and which are not. If a parameter isn't there, it is either because no one has proposed it yet, or that it was proposed and deemed unimportant. If you think it should be added, propose it at Template talk:Infobox television season. Note that a similar request at Template talk:Infobox television#Theme didn't pass.
And finally, How is it a problem? Well, you are passing data to the image caption about the image, when that data is completely unrelated to that image. This causes a MOS:ACCESSABILITY issue for screen reader users who get unrelated information read to them. Gonnym (talk) 06:41, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
What Should I Propose at Template talk Alen Hermen (talk) 06:46, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
That you want to add |slogan= (or whichever else you want) as a parameter. Gonnym (talk) 11:37, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

It's a Sin (TV series

Hi there, did you mean to undo the action by a bot on It's a Sin (TV series)?

AussieWikiDan (talk) 09:26, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Yes. The category was moved and was reverted but the bot cannot undo the actions as it wasn't a 1-1 move but a merge so it had to be done manually. Gonnym (talk) 09:26, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
Oh I see. Thanks for the explanation. AussieWikiDan (talk) 11:06, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Idle thought

It's interesting how no one cared about {{Malaysian party colour}}, yet a horde of Canucks showed up to defend {{Canadian party colour}} even though they serve exactly the same function. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised, given that it isn't the first time they've wanted their own special niche. Primefac (talk) 15:05, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Yeah I wasn't surprised at all. There are some topic areas that I know will attract editors which automatic oppose stuff. I usually try and get the easier stuff first and then if I'm brave enough, try and nominate things like this. Gonnym (talk) 15:33, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Do you have a plan for Template:Infobox television/styles.css?

Do you have a plan for {{Infobox television/styles.css}}? I poked through the talk page and the template's history, but I did not find any mention of it or implementation of it. If it is not needed, you could put {{Db-g7}} on it (I think this works on CSS pages, but I'm not sure), or I could take it to TFD. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:21, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

I'll speedy it. I can always recreate it if needed. Gonnym (talk) 00:00, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Substituting templates

When substituting a template (e.g. using TemplateSubster) is it possible to only add parameters which are being used? For example in [1] I would prefer the empty category parameter not to be added — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:46, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

@MSGJ not the prettiest of code and there probably is a better way, but this works Template:WikiProject Iowa/sandbox. Gonnym (talk) 12:18, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Yeah that works. We could do similiar with other parameters like listas and living. I've just found Module:Template wrapper which seems useful. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:35, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
I've tried to get it to work but the substitution fails with the module and while checking the doc and talk page I saw that you already noticed that yourself. Gonnym (talk) 13:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Here for something else, but done. Could probably do this with the other USA wrappers as well. Primefac (talk) 15:00, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

The method using Module:Unsubst seems to work really well, and you don't need conditionals on each parameter. See Template:WIR and Template:Normdaten for examples. Would it be possible to replace the other wrapper templates with something similiar to avoid unused parameters like this? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:38, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

I don't know that module but if it works for one wrapper it probably can work for others. Gonnym (talk) 00:06, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Deadpool

Firstly, no, Deadpool 3 being in the MCU does not make Deadpool and Deadpool 2 in the MCU. Alien is not part of the Predator series, and The Amazing Spider-Man is not part of the MCU. Secondly, they're not associated with the MCU if the films have nothing to do with the MCU. InfiniteNexus (talk) 09:48, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

I have no idea why you're mass-restoring your BOLD edits rather than discussing first... InfiniteNexus (talk) 09:49, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Are you really comparing the Alien and Predator franchises to the MCU? Even in that franchise itself the connection between the films is very loose. The MCU on the other hand is not. Deadpool 1 leads to Deadpool 2 which leads to Deadpool 3. Deadpool 3 is in the MCU. It does not matter if the connection will be that Deadpool was in a different universe, timeline, erased by Wanda, Kang or Thanos. Is it connected as Iron Man 1? No. But it's still connected. Gonnym (talk) 09:52, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Clearly not from a real-world perspective. The SSU films are also supposedly "connected" to the MCU, but this is all from a story perspective. The first two Deadpool films were produced by a different production company and set in a different franchise. That Disney has decided to keep the same actor for Deadpool (as they have done with several other characters for fan-service/$$$ reasons) is irrelevant from an out-of-universe perspective. Your BOLD edits are clearly not a straightforward situation, and I personally think it was in bad taste to simply restore the contested edits. At the very least, discuss first at WT:MCU. Consider that if it were obvious to everyone that Deadpool 1 and 2 are MCU, somebody would've added tags and mentions in the past weeks and months. InfiniteNexus (talk) 09:59, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
(I'm going offline now, so I won't be able to respond until tomorrow morning.) InfiniteNexus (talk) 10:01, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
SSU films are not connected because Sony has chosen not to connect them. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to an editor marking them as |mcu=yes so the project can be notified when needed. Regarding Deadpool, since the trailer has just recently released I'm not surprised no one has done the tedious task of going over all related pages, just as I wasn't surprised no one added any of the Inhumans character posters (File:Mike Moh as Triton.jpg) to related categories or tagged them for 6 years until today or most MCU redirects (such as Talk:Iron man (2008 film), 16 years). So when you are asking about that somebody, I'm usually that somebody. Gonnym (talk) 10:26, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
I was not just talking about talk page tags. You'll notice that neither Deadpool (film) nor Deadpool 2 state that they are "part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe", or even "retroactively incorporated into the MCU". List of Marvel Cinematic Universe films does not treat those films as MCU, nor does List of Marvel Cinematic Universe film actors. It's clear the consensus is that they are not considered MCU, and for the reasons I outlined above (from a real-world perspective, nothing that was not originally part of the MCU can be part of the MCU unless it has been officially declared "canon" retroactively). I'll now take this to WT:MCU so more editors can weigh in. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:36, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I agree with Infinite that just because Deadpool & Wolverine is an MCU film does not mean that Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are connected to the MCU. Yes, it was frequently called "Deadpool 3" by trades, although this was never an official name and it was clear from the start of development to be an MCU film. We're not going to add the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films as covered by the MCU taskforce just because Maguire appeared in No Way Home. The frequent use of MCU tags on non-MCU articles is a bit concerning, though I would suggest using {{WikiProject Comics}} with |marvel=yes as several MCU editors are also part of that. If notifying the MCU taskforce is a concern, you can always notify it of any discussions or alerts for these to gain insight, or just notify WP:FILM as several taskforce members are there also. If we need to better explain what is the scope of the MCU taskfoce, that can be discussed and arranged. Trailblazer101 (talk) 18:48, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
although this was never an official name who cares if the official name is "3" or not. It's the third film in the series. Do you want a citation that says it's a sequel? I'm not sure what your argument is. We're not going to add the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films as covered by the MCU taskforce just because Maguire appeared in No Way Home as I said above for the SSU films, if someone feels they should, I won't oppose it, however, there really is no real confirmation that the Peter Parkers we saw in NWH are the actual versions from those films. Yes, the stories are the same, but they can just as much be from an slightly different universe. In Deadpool situation it's the same story. Gonnym (talk) 12:05, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
(This discussion is now moot, but ...) There really is no real confirmation that the Peter Parkers we saw in NWH are the actual versions from those films Bingo. In Deadpool situation it's the same story Nope, it's the same situation. Regardless of what is shown and said onscreen, the first two films still have nothing to do with the MCU unless someone from Marvel says otherwise. They're borrowing the same actors, but they're different continuities. And what's to say they won't make changes to the character that clearly contradict what was previously established? We already know there are going to be Deadpool variants, which never existed in the original X-Men films, and Wolverine never had a yellow-and-blue suit (except in the infamous deleted scene), did he? InfiniteNexus (talk) 20:33, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Notice I didn't tag the X men films, did I? Gonnym (talk) 16:28, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:MARC Train station platform templates

A tag has been placed on Category:MARC Train station platform templates indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:06, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Slash

Thank you for your edits on List of kingdoms in Africa throughout history although I’m a little confused about the use of the slash (/). How am I supposed to show alternative names for the same entity? Former states in Africa often have multiple names that are used interchangeably in academia, most often not alluding to alternative names Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:08, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Also I see the dash I use (-) often get changed to one that looks identical and I’m not sure why Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:10, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
It’s a shame about the use of colour, is there anything I can do to make the classifications stand out more that won’t violate WP:MOS? Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:18, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
Regarding the slash, use your words instead, but in that case, you just sent the users to a different article so there isn't really a need for that as that article should explain both names. Regarding the colors, it depends what you want to achieve by that. Do you want to create a note? If so, use {{efn}}. If you just want to be make it colorful, then no, there is nothing to do and you'll have to trust our readers can read. Gonnym (talk) 10:29, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
The inclusion of alternative names is more for someone searching for a particular kingdom, otherwise duplicates would be added. Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:47, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Query

Hello, Gonnym,

I'm coming to you because you understand a lot about templates. If you look at Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion, you'll see a lot of literature categories that suddenly went empty today. I use a tool that indicates who added or removed articles from a category and when this occurred but that came up blank. This sometimes happens when it's a template that automatically adds articles to categories. So, I was wondering if this was happening with these categories and if there was any vandalism or well-intentioned editing that screwed up the categorization. But I don't know what templates could be responsible. Any ideas? Thanks for any advice you can supply. Liz Read! Talk! 01:21, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

@Liz it seems edits like this by User:Smasongarrison removed them when adding the template. Gonnym (talk) 05:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Fixed this now at Template:Writers by nationality and century category header. Gonnym (talk) 05:49, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it! I guess I should have looked at the cases were there was no redirect, instead of just when there was a redirect. Mason (talk) 13:06, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks very much to you both! I came to the right person. Liz Read! Talk! 16:10, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Michael Douglas

Hi, Gonnym. Nice to meet you. I saw your active participation in WP:FILM and would be grateful for your involvement on actor Michael Douglas' page as well. I put up an edit request detailing the roles, awards, and information currently missing from his page. As I understand the Wiki policies about COI editing, I am not adding these myself, though I am happy to if you give me the green light. Grateful for your time and involvement, BenKalman2024 (talk) 20:05, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Error in Template:Infobox television

Hi Gonnym; This edit introduced duplicate parm errors. It's causing havoc on Category:Articles using duplicate arguments in template calls. Can you fix it? Thanks Davemck (talk) 18:57, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. Should be fixed now. Gonnym (talk) 18:59, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
What have you done? Now all film infoboxes show "director" and "writer" in those fields. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Someone should reverse the edit, this is bad. Exteahans71 (talk) 11:10, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Infobox film

Are you sure about this? I think you need to add triple braces around each of those parameters for "director", "writer", "producer", etc.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 11:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

This is being discussed here. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:14, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
The user desprictated it Exteahans71 (talk) 11:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up! Stupid mistake and should be fixed now. Gonnym (talk) 11:21, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

AWB clean up post-move

Hey Gonnym, for clean up post-move edits such as this, what are you using for the find-and-replace settings? -- Alex_21 TALK 07:30, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

\(season (\d*)\) -> season $1 Gonnym (talk) 07:31, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
Just need to make sure to catch the instances where the infobox has "some camera guy (season 1)" and not accept those changes. Gonnym (talk) 07:32, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Moving redirects

Hello, Gonnym. You moved I Am Groot (season 2) to I Am Groot season 2, but these are both redirects. As such, I Am Groot (season 2) is now a double redirect to I Am Groot season 2. I have fixed these two pages, but I don't know if you have performed similar moves without correcting double redirects, so please check them and fix any errors. I know there are bots that go around fixing these, but as you can see, they don't catch everything. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:51, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

The bots will eventually fix these, there are many pages that were moved. Gonnym (talk) 06:00, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Including redirects? InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:02, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
I'd be very surprised if the bot that fixes these things does not fix this. If they don't fix this, then that's a pretty big bug in its design. Gonnym (talk) 06:04, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Double redirects#Double redirects and bots one of these should fix these. Gonnym (talk) 06:45, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
@InfiniteNexus it seems User:EmausBot is cleaning these now. Gonnym (talk) 09:24, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Category redirects

If your premise is that category redirects should not exist at all, then propose a change of policy with respect to them. They are permissible, and for categories that existed at a particular title for a long time before being moved, positively useful. BD2412 T 15:06, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

My premise is that either you've been given misleading information by Tom or you just don't understand the rational behind category redirects. We keep category redirects for only a limited amount of reasons. None of which apply here. What you are creating in mass without consensus (and I should say, WP:MEATBOT applies here) are pointless category redirects that not only will never have any usage but will actually hinder any editor that is trying to find real categories with this style that should be renamed as you are clogging up the search results. Gonnym (talk) 07:46, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
We literally just moved over 6,000 articles with the exact same title update and left a redirect for every single one of them. I have been working with categories for decades, have have never encountered any hindrance from the existence of category redirects. To the contrary, I find them extremely helpful in finding the correct category title when the name of the category is not obvious. Is it not the case that the current title will always appear ahead of a redirect in the search box? BD2412 T 13:24, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
Article redirects and category redirects serve two different functions. While I don't like to link to essays, this basically sums my points Wikipedia:Category_redirects_that_should_be_kept#Category_redirects_that_might_be_useful. The old page name is not useful as no one is going to manually search for it and most likely not use the old names in article creations. Even if they do use the old name, I'd rather it be a red link and them learning about the new name instead of them continuing to incorrectly use the old style.
Regarding the search, I'm not sure how category redirects and the primary name appear in search results but that wasn't what I was referring to anyways. I tend to check once in awhile various maintenance sections and fix issues. If I'd do now intitle:"/\(season in the category namespace I'd get all the pages you created instead of only new pages that need to be sent to CFDS to rename name. That was what I meant by saying these are not only unhelpful but hinder actual work. Gonnym (talk) 10:02, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
Isn't the CFDS task already done and gone? I tend to doubt that editors using Hotcat or the like will remember that the title scheme has been changed, and if they type in, e.g., "The Simpsons (season 10) episodes", the tool will automatically follow the redirect and populate "The Simpsons season 10 episodes".
