Something to make your life easier!

Hi there Ghostrighter! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install it (as detailed on it's page), then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! Take a look at your article now that I've reflinked it, and you'll see what I mean. Happy editing! Another tip!

Thanks for your thanks on my talk page - it's always nice to be appreciated :D When you're posting on a talk page, use the "New Section" tab on it (which will automatically give you a title field and add your message to the bottom of the page), and remember to type four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your message; this means that people won't miss your message (some of our talk pages get very long, lol!), and the four tildes will automatically sign, date, and time your message. To-do list!

Hi again - here's a little "mission" for you; go through the articles you've recently created, and give them some "polishing up" using Reflinks! And here's a heap more information for you as well!

Hi Ghostrighter, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Ghostrighter/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you.

These require two parts;

a)

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! E-commerce sites

Hey, just giving you a head's up - e-commerce sites like Amazon aren't usable as a source on Wikipedia because their purpose is to sell the user something. This can make an article seem promotional, even if the intent isn't to promote, since it gives off the impression that the article (and Wikipedia) specifically endorses the author. I think that the only time that they can be used is in rare situations, like if you had a link to her name on the ABNA awards website. Anything else should be through another outlet. I've removed this from two of your recent pages. On a whole they look to be well written, but I will caution you that you need to have less primary sources and more secondary, independent sources. The easiest way to do this is always reviews in newspapers and the like.

On a side note, be careful about listing awards and accolades, as very few of them are considered to be the type that would give notability on Wikipedia. It's incredibly tough to assert that something is notable enough to give even partial notability on here, as there are just so many writing awards out there and some of them are vanity awards. As far as publishing history goes, be careful of that as well since being published doesn't give automatic notability on here anymore. I've tried to argue for some notability to be given based on the number of copies in libraries, but that was a no go. (A bunch of us did help establish that notable bestseller lists could give notability, though, so that's a plus.)

• For example, the Sacrifice Anthology Contest mentioned in Chow's article looks to be a blog contest where the winners were published through CreateSpace, Amazon's self-publishing arm. Most blogs are considered to be self-published sources and most sort of make up their own contests on the spot. At best awards of this type are sort of just padding on the article, as they can't give notability and in some situations they're even seen as indiscriminate data. For example, there's been a few situations where someone listed 10+ blog awards or nods as part of blatant publishing. This isn't the case here obviously, but as a result blog awards and similar awards kind of get seen as a bit of puffery, so be careful of that as well. Referencing in articles

Hello, Ghostrighter. I notice that a couple of your recent articles (John Love (judge) and K. Nicole Mitchell) use "id." and "supra" in references. This is discouraged in Wikipedia - see WP:IBID. Unfortunately, I cannot make the same fixes to the second article, because of the exact issues why this is deprecated: there is on that says "supra, n. 6" - I assume that was intended to refer to reference number 6, but that is one of the "Id." entries. Hello, Ghostrighter. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College is hosting the second annual Wikipedia Translatathon! At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City. New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events.

I feel that I scoured the web for all the best secondary sources out there. The memory of Professor Dmitry Karshtedt needs to be retained for how brilliant of a scholar he was and the monumental impact he made on the field of patent law.
