August 2019 edit

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. I was not aware that an account could not be named after a business. I don't speak for the company and would like to change my name to reflect that.

Request reason:

The purpose of my adding "Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association" to the list of US-based Mutual Insurance was not for promotions or advertising. It was not my intention to direct website traffic, raise awareness, or further any other sort of marketing campaign or marketing goals. The purpose is to make a more complete list of noteworthy US-based Mutual Insurance companies, which I noted in my "reason for making an edit." Germania is a substantial company, similar to the other companies listed in the article, and I believe it is substantial enough to include in the list. The business is not only substantial in its presence as a business, but in a historical context as well. Having said that, my only goal is to add it to the list as a matter of factual record; to contribute to this article the fact that Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association is, as are all the other companies listed, a US-based Mutual Insurance company. I was simply reading through the article and found that Germania was not on the list, so I thought I would add it. I also had no intention of "spamming". I made the initial edit, refreshed the page and did not see my addition and thought that I had done something wrong. That is why I added it again. I received no notification that it had been removed, so I thought that I had made a clerical error. I have never made edits to Wikipedia before, so I am new to all of this and I thank you for forgiving my error born of inexperience. Furthermore, I want to reiterate that I understand the purpose of Wikipedia as an encyclopedia. I understand that it is not intended for advertising or promotional purposes. That was not my intention. Thank you for your consideration

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 21:53, 13 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you are employed by the company, then you have to disclose this information per Wikipedia's mandatory and non-negotiable policy on disclosure of paid editing. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 00:35, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

As noted by Drm310, if you are employed by the company in any capacity, you must declare that, you don't have to be a designated representative of the company or specifically asked by them to edit Wikipedia. Now that you know you can't edit about your company, what will you edit about if unblocked? 331dot (talk) 07:37, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I am employed by the company, but I am not being directly paid to edit any information about them. I'm doing this on my own. If I can't add the company to the list of US-based insurance companies, can I request that another editor review the change and potentially add it? I'm sorry if I'm not following guidelines perfectly, I'm new to this and while I'm trying to educate myself on how all of this works, I'm sure I'm not doing a good job. - Geoff

As I said, as long as you are a company employee, you are a paid editor. You don't have to have been specifically asked to edit Wikipedia. We have no way of knowing when you are "off the clock" at home or "on the clock" at work. Yes, you can make a formal edit request on the article talk page- if you are interested in being a general contributor. What other subjects are you interested in editing about? 331dot (talk) 15:33, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything I would have any authority to edit/speak on. Like I said, I just noticed that the list was missing the aforementioned company and thought I would add it. I don't have anything else in mind. I would still like to be unblocked so that I have the possibility of editing in the future. I understand that I cannot personally edit anything related to that company and I don't intend to. In the future, I will use the edit request to make suggestions on a page where I "cannot or should not make the proposed edits" myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geoff Ullrich (talkcontribs) 15:59, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

i renamed Germania Insurance to Geoff Ullrich edit

I renamed Germania Insurance to Geoff Ullrich. ANother will review the unblock request, but as a rule of thumb, my conditions for unblocking in these instances can be found at this page.-- Deepfriedokra 01:59, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
