IP range at ANI

Hi GeneralNotability. You mentioned in the Gardenofaleph SPI that you planned to keep an eye on disruption coming from 2600:1004:b100::/40. There's a brand new ANI thread open in response to their recent dysgenics-related comments. Just FYI. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 02:21, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Sock account possibly back with new account

GeneralNotability - You blocked a sock account Suthasianhistorian8, on 30 May 2022. I believe the user created a new account Takshak24 on 1 June 2022. I have submitted SPI checkuser request for investigation as there is similarity between the way both account specifically edited. [2]. MehmoodS (talk) 01:55, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Editor on an IP range promoting fringe theories

Hi GeneralNotability and pagewatchers, do you have any ideas on how to respond to an editor on an IP range promoting fringe theories? I saw this unreferenced edit by an IP editor about Visigoths and Goths in Britain on my watchlist, reverted it and posted on the editor's talk page. The IP range has made some 600 edits over the last two weeks and those I have checked at Haestingas and History of Warwickshire seem to be equally odd. TSventon (talk) 04:31, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

TSventon, first thing I'd try is engaging them on their talk page when they're actively editing - looks like they're on a dynamic IPv6 range, rotating about once a day. If that fails to get their attention and they're being disruptive, we can use a partial block to get their attention. GeneralNotability (talk) 21:24, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, I have posted on their latest talk page. Engaging them while they're actively editing will be more of a challenge. TSventon (talk) 08:20, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Now talking at User talk:Ovid99. TSventon (talk) 15:32, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
And at Talk:Anglo-Saxons#Meonwara and Wihtwara. TSventon (talk) 14:40, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

I raised the issue at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Ovid99 and the editor has gone quiet for now. Is there anything more I can do? Or for that matter anything I should have done differently? TSventon (talk) 05:48, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

TSventon, I don't think so at this point, and I think you did everything as well as you could. GeneralNotability (talk) 01:55, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

P.S. The editor intends to come back in the autumn, according to their talk page. TSventon (talk) 18:51, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello GeneralNotability/Archives/2022,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here.   Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11479 articles, as of 16:00, 9 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

A goat for you!

Thank you for the continued prevention of sock/pov accounts from swaying the neutrality of the Swaminarayan section. I was waiting for another user in the content space to confirm my doubts last week 1 because it seemed suspect but looks like you connected the dots much quicker. I will do better to raise similar sock accounts to admin attention sooner going forward.
