Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Temples in Keelung

A tag has been placed on Category:Temples in Keelung requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Please Help Me

Good day, I am trying to make correct edits with sources provided, but there are vandals who are trying to get rid of it. I am trying to help, so could you please ban them from the page "Jessica Guo"? Thank you very much Sabre Fencer Canada

@Sabrefencercanada: If by "vandals" you mean me, I don't really know what to tell you. Several things:
  1. You need a reference that says she was born in Markham instead of Toronto.
  2. Please find a reliable source that calls her Chinese Canadian.
  3. How do you define "unusually short?" That's WP:OR
  4. How do you define "many achievements?" That's OR and not-WP:NPOV
  5. "In 2020, COVID-19 has prevented her from training, but police have discovered her secretly training at fencing club, against provincial restrictions. This has proved to be trouble for her, as of recent (2021)." Being unreferenced, this is a serious WP:BLP violation. Your given reference is completely unrelated.
  6. Ko shouldn't be mentioned because it's only sourced to a WP:PRIMARYSOURCE. Find a secondary source instead.
I am going to revert again. Keep in mind that you're already over the line for WP:3RR. If you revert again, WP:AN/3 is that way.  Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 14:31, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I do not understand all of these things you are saying. Please be more clear. Also, I have added a good source. All the information I put is credible and ccorrect. And I do not know why you are doing this. Why?

Hi @Ganbaruby, I have done EXACTLY WHAT YOU TOLD ME! Are you happy now? Thanks

DYK for Salmon chaos

On 4 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Salmon chaos, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that people in Taiwan changed their legal names to something involving salmon in order to get free sushi? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Salmon chaos. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Salmon chaos), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Mariah Carey sales info is incorrect @Ganbaruby:

@Ganbaruby:

Here is a CURRENT link to the RIAA regarding Mariah Carey's ranking as an artist. If there happens to be 2 CURRENT pages that conflict -- as you suggest -- then THAT information should be represented in this Wiki article. For example... you could say... "based on where you look on the RIAA - Mariah is either tied w Barbra Streisand w 68.5 M or is behind her with 66.5.

It is not up to you or me to decide what is accurate -- only the RIAA. As someone who is "reporting honestly and accurately" it is your/my duty to make sure that her ranking is IN QUESTION.

https://www.riaa.com/gold-platinum/?tab_active=awards_by_artist#search_section

From what I have gathered in my investigation is that "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS" single -- garnered 2 Million in sales. NOT album sales. Since there is no other NEWS outlet, like Billboard or the AP, who has published anything about Carey having a milestone (tying w Streisand), instead only single sales ("the gift that keeps giving") -- that your page is most likely incorrect. Again, since there is some question -- then again -- let it be known that her ranking is questionable.

@Mnirola42: I still think the difference lies in the "Type" column, where Streisand is listed as "Standard" and Carey as "All types". However, I'll leave your new edit request for another editor that may have more insight than I do.  Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 13:17, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

@Ganbaruby: "thinking" what the difference may be --- is NOT being accurate. Until the RIAA states what the difference is or what the error is -- then it's ethically responsible to republish information that is correct. Not guess work or choosing which source you like better. It is highly dubious that Mariah would hit a milestone of tying Streisand and RIAA, Billboard, The AP, etc... would ignore it. It would be MAJOR NEWS. I think you know that.

Archiving thread from Teahouse?

Hi Ganba. Thanks for your replies and explanations to Paper9oll. You seem to be a regular at the Teahouse, so is it correct for the editor who began a thread there to be archiving it after others have commented on it, presumably because said editor has had enough or is not getting the response(s) they wish? Because Paper9oll has done so. I can't imagine this is great to do. Ss112 10:29, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

@Ss112: Eh. It's their question, and they probably thought that they got their answer and that the discussion is over. They archived it instead of deleting it outright, meaning that other editors can still find the discussion if they wished, and a bot would've archived it after a while anyways, so it's not that big of a deal. Doing so on a talk page though is much worse, so I'll leave a message on their talk page letting them to not do it again.  Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 13:53, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

@HelenDegenerate: Nice. FYI, you could've kept the snake emojis if you wanted to, but that's your call.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 18:42, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
True, it was a bit lonely without them. PS: I do a lot of countervandalism— that means pissing off Internet trolls on a daily basis. Will having this link to my talk page encourage them to leave me lots of spam? Last night, after I added the link, I received a bizarre message from a vandal I warned. 🐍Helen🐍 (let’s talk) 18:52, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
@HelenDegenerate: From personal experience, not really. What does encourage them is your "friendly note" at the top of your talk page, where reverse psychology kicks in. Remember, we're dealing with people that have nothing better to do. It's better to revert and not acknowledge the vandalism at all.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 19:00, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Please Help Me

I did cite reliable sources . They then reverted back saying I committed plagiarism, while citing the news story FactsNotNarratives (talk) 16:42, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

@FactsNotNarratives: In all your diffs, you cited only one source, and you copied a sentence word-for-word from that source. That's considered a copyright violation and is strictly prohibited on Wikipedia. As I said at the Teahouse, discuss it on the talk page first.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 17:19, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
@Ganbaruby!:I did discuss on the talk page, but one person keeps being my roadblock. He is the only one responding to it.
Also another question, If I have a problem with this one person, is it proper to do open a discussion on his talk page to come to a consensus with him? FactsNotNarratives (talk) 22:49, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
@FactsNotNarratives: It doesn't matter if it's one person or a hundred; you must come to a consensus with whoever shows up. It's a content dispute about one article, so discuss it on that article's talk page.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 00:52, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

At De'Vante Bausby, you've provided no reliable source for the Las Vegas Raiders bit, and the rest of it is equally unsourced and not written in a neutral point of view. By what standard is a "larger role on defense", or a "highlight reel hit", or "several key plays"?  Ganbaruby! (talk) 07:08, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Jack London edit/new user help

Hello Ganbaruby,

I recently tried to make my first edit to a page (the page in question is Jack London's), and I'm not sure if I have the process correct. The page is semi-protected, so I made my suggestion in the talk section. It appeared that you had helped a previous user with their suggestion on that page, so I was contacting you directly to help me learn a little bit about the Wikipedia system, as well as for assistance with my particular suggestion. Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply, I on a break away from Wikipedia. I assume you are Dave neustadt, and I've added a template to alert other editors of your proposal (that's how I landed there). Sadly, I am not familiar enough with London to make a judgment call here, and I don't have access to the references in the article. I'll leave it to another editor to decide.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 06:27, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Like I told you at Talk:List_of_online_payment_service_providers#Semi-protected_edit_request_on_19_July_2021, you should read WP:WTAF. Subjects should have a Wikipedia article created about them before being added to lists, and Coinremitter does not exist yet.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 18:09, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Dear admin on Banaphar page

Dear admin

on Banaphar page, in the Crowley source page 128 it clearly mentions it as Banaphar a lower division of a particular community, or identified as such. So how can we change it. I have mentioned the caste slur part which they faced because of marrying into particular community.

Will be happy if you can give some direction to it RS6784 (talk) 07:43, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Kathryn Hansen (1991). Grounds for Play: The Nautanki Theatre of North India. University of California Press. pp. 128, 161. whereas the Banaphars were also Rajput (although allegedly of mixed blood.

On Page 128 Kathryn Hansen clearly mentions the background but accepts that they faced caste slurs because of mother that part has been mentioned. RS6784 (talk) 07:47, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Crowley part clearly states it, it was due to mother background but the clan was considered as part of particular community. quote from his source on page 277 =The Banaphars also identify themselves as Rajputs. Throughout this epic, though, they have various caste slurs hurled at them by higher-status Rajputs who claim that the Banaphar line is contaminated with the blood of Ahirs, a nomadic pastoral community. I can provide more sources for it, all mention the similar bkgd RS6784 (talk) 08:09, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

@RS6784: I'll give you a response later; my local library has the full text of the two books you're trying to cite and I was planning on going there anyways, so I'll look into it while there. I'm not going to revert you for the time being.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 08:22, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

Dear Admin Regarding the warning from your side link: [1], I apologise and will take care of the rule. But please look into constant disruptive editing by some handles on Udal of Mahoba, Alha of Mahoba, Banaphar pages. I will be more than happy if you can look into the disruption on that page.

Thanks and Regards RS6784 (talk) 05:52, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Dear Editor Waiting for your response to my queries as you had stated in the last response: " I'll give you a response later; my local library has the full text of the two books you're trying to cite and I was planning on going there anyways, so I'll look into it while there. Alha

Thank you for identifying and removing copyright violating material from Alha. However I am declining to revdel the revisions per Wikipedia:Revision deletion#Large-scale use. This article has a long and contenious history and I think that revdel of 8-9 years worth of revisions loses far too much of the history and points of contention so I think leaving it as simple removal of the violating material as you have done it enough. Please do not stop finding copyvios and flagging them for attention, this is important work. If you disagree with my decision that's fine and I won't be offended if you look for a second opinion from another admin. Nthep (talk) 15:27, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Ganbaruby,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

@NewManila2000: I don't know why that is. Editing Wikipedia in general is much easier on a computer anyways, so I've never tried the content translation tool on mobile. In fact, I don't even use the content translation tool anymore, but instead I build articles from scratch while using the other language article as a rough guide. If you really want to use the interface on mobile, consider dropping a question at Wikipedia talk:Content translation tool.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 05:19, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)

Hello. Although I noticed you've 'semi-retired, as you're currently still listed as a host at the Teahouse I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

  • Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
  • There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
  • Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.

If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.

Thank you! Nick Moyes (talk) 11:47, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi Nick Moyes, good to hear from you. The new changes sound very exciting, but I've stepped away from Wikipedia for about a month and don't see myself dedicating as much time as I used to. Thank you for reaching out to me, and best of luck!  Ganbaruby! (talk) 15:35, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

New page review

Hi, I was wondering if you'd help me review the Deemo: Memorial Keys page. I put some text from the Deemo page as placeholder when creating it and now it's been flagged as copyvio and won't appear on search engines. Thanks in advance. PetéWarrior (talk) 10:39, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

@Petewarrior: Looks mostly good. I'd like you to fix the "plot section", aside from copyvio issues, is confusing to read and needs rewording. Does "...that plays the piano in a castle" mean that he always plays the piano, or is just happens to be playing the piano while Alice is falling? Remove the "gentle, ephemeral story of love" for being promo-ey; instead, just say what happens (I'm assuming you've seen the film).  Ganbaruby! (talk) 17:33, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for replying so quickly. I paraphrased the synopsis from the sources as I haven't seen the movie and the "gentle, ephemeral story of love" is a direct quote. The suspect copyvio is only in the initial revision. PetéWarrior (talk) 18:14, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Ganbaruby,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 814 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Ganbaruby,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here.   Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 9903 articles, as of 14:00, 21 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Ganbaruby,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Ganbaruby,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Ganbaruby:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2600 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
