Racehorse categories edit

As a contributor to racehorse articles I would appreciate you taking a look at Category_talk:Racehorses and expressing any views you have regarding Racehorse categories. - Cuddy Wifter 05:52, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think creating a Wikipedia:WikiProject Horse racing. would be a brilliant idea. I would love to contribute. (dark horse 04:00, 4 July 2006 (UTC))Reply

Good work edit

Thanx for changing my horse/jockey image, your creation works really well. Handicapper 13:46, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do you have any expertise in creating/fixing Infoboxes? I'd like to change the setup on the two bottom sections in the current version of the Template:Thoroughbred racehorse infobox. If you can help, let me know. Thanx. Handicapper 17:07, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanx for the effort. What I would like to have at the bottom is three separate boxes with the blue banner background as follows:

  1. Major Racing Wins
  2. Racing Awards
  3. Honours

Each one should be optional as not every horse received an award or a post racing honour. Most important, is to get rid of the current sub-titles so that each box is empty for typing centered text. You can see an example at Fantastic Four where they use centered text in one box and with bolded headers (instead of my 3 separate boxes). Do you think you might be able to do this? Thanx again, any help is greatly appreciated. Handicapper 15:06, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template tests edit

September 13th, 17:17 - Really great work and certainly appreciated. I've been using your first version above with all three items in one box so people can see it at a few articles such as:

However, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to also do a test for the second one that utilizes the three separate boxes. If you would wait another day to give others a chance to see this 1st sample then set it up again with the three separate boxes alternative so we can all chose between the two, that would be appreciated. Thanx again. Handicapper

I really like the new version Galopin, a definite improvement on the old infoboxes. I like the idea of one box over 3 as well, looks much better. I would only suggest a colour behind the horses name at the top of the infobox. Looks good, Well done. (dark horse 01:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC))Reply

I thought of another category, prehaps international rating as issued by the international horse racing federation? (ie NOT timeform) from http://www.horseracingintfed.com. Whilst this would pose a problem for long retired horses, those that are still in training or have been in the past 5 years and rank on the list, therefore prehaps classifying them as worthy for a wikipedia entry would have their ratings?? (dark horse 07:09, 14 September 2006 (UTC))Reply

Sorry, I cannot decide it. Because I am not good at English, the meaning of "prehaps" is not understood. Is "prehaps international rating" International Classification (or World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings)?--Galopin 11:38, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Galopin. I too prefer it with the current single box setup for all three and agree with dark horse that a color behind the horses name at the top of the infobox would be good. Also, is it possible to have a blank space before the "Major Racing Wins & Honours & Awards" header then in the box, a space before the "Awards" and before the "Honours" captions? Once again, thanx for the superb work. Note, at the request of KI Longfellow, I changed the Template color to the brown seen here which I agree is better for horses. Handicapper 14:54, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is not decided to me. What color is good? --Galopin 16:32, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think the green is (to be polite) ugly! Handicapper 17:58, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think so, too. I think that brown is good, because it is one of the colors of the horse. Those colors were ugly though other colors had been tested. I entrust it to Handicapper and Dark horse racing.--Galopin 18:27, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Galopin. How about using the same Infobox with some minor changes to create a "Universal" infobox for jockeys, trainers, even stables. One box for all would save a lot of work and still look good. Instead of horsename it is just "name" and in the place where we now have Sire, insert "Occupation" where someone types the appropriate title. It would have birth date, birth place, and whatever other important statistics then still have the same bottom box like the horses with Major Race Wins, Awards, Honours. Make the banner background the Blue we have here. Handicapper 20:06, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please add a necessary item.--Galopin 09:55, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Galopin: I think this first one is good. Please set it up in Wikipedia Template form so that we can start using it. Thanx. Handicapper 23:20, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

>User:Galopin/Template

Please move if this template is OK. --Galopin 13:07, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Could you also do the lines we need to be able to insert the template in an article. Thanx. Handicapper 17:12, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to start using this shortly. First though, could you add another caption at the bottom below "Racing Awards" called: Significant Horses (or any label to list horse names they rode/trained/owned). Handicapper 13:44, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Galopin, would you please set this up as a permanent usable Infobox. Thanx. Handicapper 15:18, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:Horseracing personalities infobox edit

Can you add a line for "Death date" that would only show up in the box when a date of death is inserted? Handicapper 19:06, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What do you think about changing the order to this?

|birthplace =
|birth date =
|death date =

Thanx. I think it looks good. I changed all the existing boxes. Handicapper 15:47, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Modification to Infobox edit

I made a change to the Template:Thoroughbred racehorse infobox to insert another line for "Grandsire" but it doesn't seem to work. Would you mind taking a look and see if you can fix it? Thanx. Handicapper 20:28, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanx for trying. However, can you set it up so that "Grandsire" appears on thev list afer "Sire". Handicapper 18:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:Horseraces infobox edit

When you get a chance, could you look at this new template made by User:293.xx.xxx.xx and see if you can modify it to Wikipedia norms. It's a good idea and I'd like to see us use it. Thanx again. Handicapper 16:03, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looks great. Please note, I made a small change from "First Race" to "Inaugurated". Do the "Race information" section subs disappear if not used like on the Thoroughbred horse infobox? Also, would you mind making the appropriate box that we can copy and paste as you did on Template:Thoroughbred racehorse infobox. Thanx. Handicapper 14:14, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

>Do the "Race information" section subs disappear if not used like on the Thoroughbred horse infobox?

It doesn't disappear even if it isn't used. I think that it needn't disappear because you can describe the distance etc. --Galopin 15:07, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It looks good to me. I left a message for User:293.xx.xxx.xx to look at it so then we can start using it right away. Thanx again for your good work. Handicapper 13:30, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sortable tables edit

Some genius came up with a great idea. Go to Japan Cup and look at the table. It is sortable by column! Handicapper 15:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Zenya Yoshida edit

Galopin, would you mind helping me out and see if you can find the date of birth for Zenya Yoshida, owner of Shadai Stallion Station. I'm quite certain he died on August 13, 1993 but I haven't found a birth date for him and thought you might locate it on a Japanese language website. Thanx. Handicapper 16:48, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article for Zenya Yoshida exists in Japanese Wikipedia. →w:ja:吉田善哉 (May 3, 1921- August 13, 1993)--Galopin 18:06, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
