Help

Hey! Thanks for the welcome! I could definitely use your help with the following page: Kaveh Pahlavan. I am trying to make the warnings disappear. What do you think I can do to clean it up? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oulon freud (talkcontribs) 23:08, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

There are no warnings on that page, looks pretty fine to me. Btw dont forget to sign your comments with 4 tildes FishandChipper (talk) 05:37, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Oh wait, i just realized you removed the warnings yourself, NEVER do that. I need to put them back. FishandChipper (talk) 05:39, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes, I agree that the first removal was unwarranted and should not have not done so.
The second time, I believe I fixed the issue by reverted to a version where the close subject had not made edits. That verson also happened to have more citations and I added more.
Regarding the notability issue, The subject appeared in several newspapers. Please, fix the issues if you think my changes were not appropriate. The goal is to fix the issues.
Oulon freud (talk) 16:49, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunatly I cant as these can only be removed by the person that put them there. I also added a notability alert as I do not belive he is notable enough to have an article. Also the article is very clearly written from the point of view of someone close to Kaveh which goes against wikipedia's neutral POV guidelines WP:NPOV FishandChipper (talk) 16:52, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
From my understading of the maintenance template guideline, anyone that fixes the issues can remove the alerts --especially if there is agreement among the contributors without conflict of interest. As to notability, the subject appeared in the BostonGlobe, Medium, RiverPublishers and has authored several popular multilingual textbooks. The article was started by his collegue at the University of Olu on his own initiative. Necessarily, Kaveh's contributions have to be discarded and same goes for any excessive language. Oulon freud (talk) 17:35, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Clearly you know Mr. Pahlavan well but regardless the warnings stay. Perhaps you could try editing the article to be from a more neutral point of view. Just from reading the article its very clear that whoever wrote it is clearly very close to him and wishes to overplay his achievements. Also the Personal Life section seems a bit too personal and extraneous (his hobbies etc) FishandChipper (talk) 17:43, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes, I do know Mr. Pahlavan and I have been engaged with his biography documenting his contributions to wireless technologies on a website that I started. The warning on his wiki page bug me and as far as I understand the ultimate purpose of these tags is to improve the article. I don't need to be the one improving it. As a biographer, I agree that the page has excessive promotion and it is clear that Mr Pahlavan himself has made edits to the page; that is not the issue. How does one proceed to give him a fair representation and get rid of the tags? This could be you or anyone else. Oulon freud (talk) 18:12, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Well since you are someone with a very close personal connection to him you must agree you couldn't possibly give a neutral report on his life correct? FishandChipper (talk) 05:32, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
I got to know Mr Pahlavan at a conference and ended up writing his bio-- no monetary incentives. If by very close connection you mean that I know him personally, yes I do. If you mean that I have any interest in agrandizing him, no, that's against the principles of a biographer. If we had to chose between someone that does not know him at all and someone that knows him to write his wikipedia page, I agree that the person that does know him at all is be a better match given the nature of wikipeddia. Also I think it would be good if you edited the page. All the potential sources are already on the revision that I made and you removed. Oulon freud (talk) 13:57, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
Also if you take a look at the edits I made, they either add citations, or more books to the bibliography or remove Mr Pahlavan's own edits. I think you are missing the point of what I am trying to do. Oulon freud (talk) 13:59, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Welcoming new users

Please don't add welcome templates to pages of users who have yet to edit; there are various reasons that we don't do so. Wikipedia:Welcoming committee has additional information if this is a task you'd like to continue with.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:55, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Jackie-Healy-Rae.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jackie-Healy-Rae.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Speedy deletion nomination of Saoirse McHugh

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Saoirse McHugh requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Care not to make PAs

FWIW, I think you were correct on the course of action and I attempted to perform a cleanup on the article. Please be careful to comment on content and not editors. We call it a WP:PA (personal attack) when you make posts like this. Bruxton (talk) 17:51, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Yeah sorry I was kinda in a bad place at that time and him playing like that really just pissed me off FishandChipper 🐟🍟 04:09, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Edit warring at Saul Goodman

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Saul Goodman. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Stephanie921 (talk) 22:29, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Bro you can't put an edit war message if you are a member of the edit war 💀💀💀 FishandChipper 🐟🍟 03:01, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
That's not how this works, as Stephanie was not edit warring. The language you preferred was removed by three separate users. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:20, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

1. I'm a woman so don't call me bro 2. I wasn't edit warring with u. I suggested an improvement to your edit once you'd made it. You changed it back, another editor reverted to mine, then you reverted again - Breaking WP:3RR. I only did one change, and it wasn't a reversion to what I wanted. 3. Do not vandalise my talk page. That constitutes WP:PERSONALATTACKS Stephanie921 (talk) 09:54, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

1. Bro is a gender neutral term 2. You very much were, you constantly reverted my edit with no reason given to yours which is the definition of an edit war. At least provide a good reason why "later" is more acceptable than "In a flashforward" other than "I think its better" 3. Is this not vandalism too? FishandChipper 🐟🍟 15:51, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
"Constantly" - they changed away from your preferential wording once and they gave a reason. Please review what vandalism actually is before accusing others of vandalizing just because you like it and you're upset.
Also, if someone asks not to be called something, just don't call them that (some would argue bro is not gender neutral). Hey man im josh (talk) 15:25, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

July 2022

Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made to User talk:Stephanie921 has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. Please use the user warnings sandbox for any tests you may want to do, or take a look at our introduction page to learn more about contributing to the encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. You were reverted by three separate users and you retaliated by issuing an edit-warring warning against a user who changed the wording you preferred once. That's not edit warring, see WP:3RR. Proposed deletion of Mo Ghrá-sa

The article Mo Ghrá-sa has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The only source cited is a blog, so might not be reliable. Apart from the text of the poem, everything is unsourced. Needs additional references to pass notability guidelines.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~StyyxTalk? 23:06, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
