Admin coaching edit

I looked and you do well but may suggest something. It is best to email or message irc with suggestions as I have found having been through rfa. Choose one for suggestion. I am sorry the edit counter is down, there is a script [1] for the monobook.js. My monobook doesn't like it but yours might.--Dakota ~ 01:34, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, I didn't notice; I've been away for quite some time. Stick

VandalProof Moderators edit

Thank you for your willingness in helping me out with VandalProof! You've now been made a moderator, so when you load VandalProof the next time, you should see 'Moderator' in front of your username, and you should also find a Moderator Tools menu. I've made a very basic page explaining what's expected of moderators and how to do certain tasks, which can be found here: User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof/ModeratorTools. If you change your mind and don't want to moderate, please contact me. Again, thanks! AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:57, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

your warning to AmiDaniel edit

how did you get to his talk page???... I would treat this as a potential bug, unless you figured out what you did. Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:30, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Were you on his page?? Please try this as a test, go to User:Eagle 101/Sandbox and click the warning button... I think I know what you did, and how you did it with out realizeing it.Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:37, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Hold on, I have another test for you... give me one minute:-), my theory may still apply.Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Same instructions as above, but try here User talk:Eagle 101/Sandbox.

        • I should have asked earlier, were you on his talk page for any reason???Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:46, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

My theory was that since AmiDanial had so many sub talk pages, that had you mistakenly hit the warn button on any of them, the warning would carry up to his main page. (User talk:XXXXX/sub-something) , the warning would carry up to (User:talk:XXXXX)

  • The reason why I thought of this was that on a program of mine, I encountered similar problems. Tell me what you think. Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:52, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

If I were you, revert your mistake on AmiDanial's talk page, or at least tell him it was your mistake, and not the software. (else he may think he has a new bug on his hands:-).Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:53, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good thing you did, because your test on my talk sandbox confirmed it was not the software, have a look, the warning is in the sandbox.

  • that problem can occur in programs that use "/" or "\" as a delimeter. (I have written two programs that did this).Eagle (talk) (desk) 01:56, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

They can't vote because they need to give the illusion of neutrality; it gives the system credibility. Regards, --Celestianpower háblame 14:16, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Heh - I was trying my hand at sarcasm, sorry. Since they haven't voted, they are, in the usual sense of the word, neutral. --Celesarialtianpower háblame 14:25, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ref converter edit

It's a good idea to link back to the Ref converter when you're using it to make changes on articles, so that other people know what's going on. WikiRefs should use an auto edit summary (generated in the link it spits out with the modified Wiki source), but if you can't get that working, just use the supplied edit summary on the main page of the Ref converter. Thanks. --Cyde Weys 00:51, 24 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Thanks for granting me the VandalProof. However my name is still in the "awaiting approval" category, so I can't use it for the moment. Did you forget to transfer me? Interesting point you make, but there is no instruction to place at the top, and most talk pages as well as copyvio list downwards. I followed the instructions directly. Maybe this needs clarifying. MyNameIsNotBob 12:38, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I had no problem, the list loaded about 5 seconds after the awaiting approval section did, as normal. I think I can guess what happened. You didn't let it load the first time, then the second time you reloaded the page that you had just blanked, so there were no approved users. After I reverted all the users back, they loaded fine. That's my thoery. Prodego talk 23:47, 27 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

New User Page edit

Hey Fetofs, I've finished renovating your userpage (cringes), and I hope you like it. A few notes to keep in mind -

  • Those funky colour banners (I can recolour them if you wish) have links in the left hand corners, which I think should probably be able to stretch right along the page. Anyway, you can change the links to go to any Wikipedia page just by clicking on them, which is kind of cool.
  • You can re-arrange the boxes, but just watch out you don't take any other coding with you.
I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 17:07, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
It isn't doing that on mine, I'll try and fix it now. I lifted the banner straight from your user page. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 17:19, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3 edit

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Aack. I am absolutely sure I messed up using VP. User:Avenue now shows with a BL and WL in red in the main space heading, and has a "- W" added to the user name for aticles in my watchlist space. WP:WHMT edit

Congratulations on the win. I suppose you win the match (per the rules), but I don't know if this is fair. I'd start a second game, and if your opponent doesn't respond to that, then you'll win two games, and take the match. Essentially, this first tournament is just a test run -- we look at the bugs in this edition, and use it to make new rules to fix the next version. We are using rules created in May 2005, without any formal testing. So, um, here we are now. We'll see how it goes.

As for a "timebank," how do you propose doing such a thing? How would it work? etc.

(And as for "we all have a real life" ... what real life ;)?) — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 23:23, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a great plan, but do you think it is wise to change the format mid-tournament? — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 22:32, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I like the idea. For the second game of each current match, there will be a three-day timebank. Every move you make within the time limit will add an additional 24 hours to your timebank. Any thoughts on the technical aspects of said timebank?

If both players were inactive (as it was with CanadaGirl and Tv316, I think), the winner would be the one who was most active (in this case, CanadaGirl), despite both being inactive. — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 03:14, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Fetofs - I'm very sorry to have disappointed your expectation in me, but it had become impossible for me to compromise my principles. I don't covet adminship at all, so it wasn't a difficult decision. However, I cannot tell you how greatly joyous I feel at the enthusiastic, wonderful support you expressed for me. I don't know how hard it will be to understand that your supports means extremely a lot to me. I thank you from my heart, and please let me know if I can ever be assistance or help in anything. Community Justice Newsletter edit

Community Justice Newsletter

Welcome
Previously, various notices regarding Community Justice have gone out to our members; though this is the first actual newsletter. This issue will contain information regarding decisions made on the first meeting, our new council, and more...!

If you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Community Justice/Do Not Spam.

New Council
Following our first elections, a new council has been elected.Computerjoe and Ian13 remain as chairman and chief executive (respectively); while Eddieh, Wiki alf and Xchrisblackx are replaced as councillors by Ilyanep, Osbus and Covington. The Giant Puffin and Pureblade remain as councillors.
Member Conduct
In the last meeting, the conduct of 4 members was discussed. Ethnopunk will be put on probation, supervised by Ian13, if he/she is incivil during this probation, he/she will be expelled from WP:CJ; the same was decided for Misza13 (voluntarily), and his probation will be supervised by Computerjoe. No action will be taken against Computerjoe.
Barnstar

The Civility Barnstar which our members have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

Name and logo change
There has been no consensus reached regarding changing our name and/or logo neither at WT:CJ nor at WT:CJ/M/1. While suggestions are still welcome, no action will be taken at this time.
Programs
We are going to try to create programs to more actively involve our members. If you have any ideas, please drop a line at WT:CJ. We will try to work with WP:ESP on one of these programs, at some point in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CJ or come into our IRC channel [2].

Computerjoe wishes to extend his thanks to User:Robchurch, a non-member who assisted in making {{tracker}} redundant, as well as Misza13 for his continued support and to the whole of this and the previous council.

User Page Judging edit

Hi Fetofs! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. So if you signed up to be a judge in spot 1 than you will get nominations 1-3. Pick your favorite one, and list it in the finalist section. After all 5 judges have chosen a finalist it's time to award them 1-10 points in the four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please see the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are confidential! Email Petros471 with your scores and final picks. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks.
