January 2010 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions, including your edits to Edwin D. Hill. However, please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not be libelous. Any controversial statements about a living person added to an article, or any other Wikipedia page, must include proper sources. Thank you. Off2riorob (talk) 04:38, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

External Links COI edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. You have recently been adding external links to websites which it appears that you design. While this, in and of itself, may not be a problem, it's possible that this could be seen as self-promotion. Please ensure that you are maintaining a neutral perspective when adding links to external pages. Thank you, and happy editing! Jhfortier (talk) 04:46, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please stop. If you continue to use disruptive, inappropriate or hard to read formatting, as you did in Emily Deschanel, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. There is a Manual of Style that should be followed. Adding unconfirmed claimed official external links Off2riorob (talk) 06:18, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re-adding external links edit

Hello Fbeals! I'm writing to hopefully start a dialogue about your re-adding of links to the page Emily Deschanel. They were removed by user: Off2riorob yesterday for claiming to be the official website without confirmation (Wikipedia really takes biographies of living people seriously!). You also received a note from me about adding links to websites which you appear to design to other articles. This could be construed as a conflict of interest (COI). You've re-added the link on the Emily Deschanel page, although it's no longer listed as the official site on the WP page.

Re-adding links, especially when you have a COI, after another editor has removed them for a legitimate reason can cause some tension. Currently, the Emily Deschanel website doesn't even have any information on it besides a link to Facebook and your design company and a quotation, so at this point, it's really not a helpful external link that adds to the quality of the Wikipedia article. I'm just wondering if you can let me know why you're so insistent that this page needs to be added right now. I'd absolutely love to discuss this civilly, so any response you can leave (on here, your talk page) would be appreciated. Let me assure you that if it is the official website, someone without a COI will most certainly add it as a link in short order: Wikipedia pages tend to be frequently updated as new references appear.

Thank you, and happy editing! I hope we can resolve this issue quickly and painlessly. Jhfortier (talk) 04:56, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Emily Deschanel. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.
