Welcome!

Hello, Fattonyni, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Fermanagh stub type

Greetings! The only reason this type feeds into another category rather than having its own ("upmerged") is that it's linked to only 43 articles. The standard for a template to get its own category is 60+ articles, so if you can find or create another 17 items, that category can be created as well. Edits to Ballyconnell

I've warned the editor in dispute about reverting. As I told them you should try to engage them on the article's talk page to avoid escalation to a revert war. Be sure not to breach the three reverts rule as it can lead to you being blocked from editing. Nja247 11:52, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

I've escalated the notice to a final warning as without meeting inclusion guidelines their edits to both articles are disruptive. Still though the pages do not need protected at this time. Report any further and similar reverts without any discussion to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism. Nja247 12:05, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your help Nja. I thought the three revert rule didn't apply when reverting obvious vandalism though? I'd like to undo the latest reversions on both Swanlinbar and more notably Ballyconnell, as they are disriptive reversions of anti-vandalism, and I've already added gentle warnings to the user pages of those responsible... for the time being I've added notes to both articles' talk pages, as per your advice. Fattonyni (talk) 12:23, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
It doesn't, but these edits make distinction of whether it's vandalism or simply unsourced edits hard to tell. Thus it was just a friendly reminder. I'll revert the most recent. Nja247 12:36, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough, and thanks for the reverts. I see what you mean -- but I assure you, the pics and info are not true of the villages :-) looks like someone with time on their hands is just having a bit of fun. Fattonyni (talk) 12:54, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 13:40, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks Julian, it was unfortunate that I requested it with a couple of recent blips on the go, but thanks for trusting me :-) -- Fattonyni (talk) 13:47, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikiproject Northern Ireland!

Hey Fattonyni, and welcome to WikiProject Northern Ireland Thanks so much for signing up - it's great to have new people coming in. Please feel free to ping me if you have any questions or would like to collaborate on any new projects. Thanks again! FlyingToaster 16:17, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Cheers FlyingToaster, I'll probably somewhat sporadic in my NI edits but I figured I've been hovering around the articles helping out for a while now, it was probably worth adding my name. All the best. Fattonyni (talk) 15:03, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Edmund Rice College article

I'm curious as to why the list of subjects I had added to this article have been removed, I was the person who added the list, however this was done on the schools own computer system, I hadn't logged in at the time. Being a student there, I know the list is extensive, and for the most part, accurate, however some subjects are debateable at GCSE/A Level standards.

Gazzoose (talk) 21:59, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey Gazzoose, detailed information on available subjects is not really necessary in an article about the school; this isn't a prospectus or school web site – and the information read like school publicity. More appropriate content for a Wikipedia article would be information on its history, notable past students, perhaps specific subjects for which the school has been denoted specialty status; generally information that make it notable and set it apart from other schools. Apologies if the edit seemed rash, but the information was uncyclopaedic in this context.
Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools#Good articles for examples of the type of information that would improve the article. Fattonyni (talk) 00:37, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

CfD nomination of Category:Caves in Honduras

I have nominated Category:Caves in Honduras (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. Fattonyni (talk) 00:35, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Boho

Thanks for editing the obvious mistakes. It takes a lot of time and attention to detail . Youngbohemian (talk) 17:24, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

No problem! I actually quite enjoy copy-editing anyway; if you catch me doing lots of it it usually means I'm supposed to be doing something else back in the Real World :-) Fattonyni (talk) 00:20, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Copyedit request

Hi. Noticed your name over at GoCE. Do you have time to help out with some work on the article Ralph Bakshi? Thanks in advance. (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 10:22, 7 May 2009 (UTC))

Hey Ibaranoff24, I've made a quick run-through to pick out any minor grammar bits and a few missing wiki links, but only realised when taking a look at the Talk page archives afterwards that the consensus is that the article needs some actual cutting down, rather than a brief review... unfortunately I don't have time at present and being fairly new to the GOCE I wouldn't be confident enough to do a full chop-up review of the article. Sorry! All of the nitty gritty stuff seems to be well in order though. Fattonyni (talk) 11:56, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

The Kingdom of Glan

I created a page called The Kingdom of Glan because I thought it might be related to the area south of Boho . I also discovered that there was another page called Glangevlin which is also another name for roughly the same area . So , how do I delete my article and add it to the other article on Glangevlin without making a double entry Youngbohemian (talk) 09:51, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the delayed response, been away and busy with a cave rescue and such! :-s In response to your question, transfer the appropriate information across to the Glangevlin article and then either: a) place a tag listed on WP:SPEEDY at the top of your Kingdom of Glan page (most likely {{db-g7|rationale=DeletionRationale}} where DeletionRationale describes your reasoning -- i.e. there is already another article related to the subject at such and such a location). Or b) if you feel that your title for the article is an important pseudonym for Glangevlin, create a redirect from your page to the present article: to do this, remove all code present in the page, then add the line:
 #REDIRECT [[ARTICLE]]
...where ARTICLE is the name of the article on Glangevlin. Hope this helps! Fattonyni (talk) 00:34, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

thanks, i will get onto it when i get a break :) Youngbohemian (talk) 10:45, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

OK I have finished this edit so hopefully it will work out ok Youngbohemian (talk) 13:14, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Nonconstructive edits

There seems to be a spate of nonconstructive edits on the 12th June Youngbohemian (talk) 08:47, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Looks like it was sorted out well -- you can simplify your messages to vandals by the way, by using one of the templates available here: Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. Sorry I've not been around for much editing of late, am currently behind with my "real" work :-) Fattonyni (talk) 10:50, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Caves associated with the Boho area

Although the number and quality of caves around the boho area is impressive and adds greatly to the importance of the article on boho , i was wondering if it would be possible to mention the highlights of the three main cave systems and then move the specifics of the caves and the geomorphology to a new page of its own ? Youngbohemian (talk) 21:16, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Youngbohemian, and apologies for my lack of input for a while! I'm unlikely to be properly involved again for a few months due to outside commitments :-( ... regarding your question, yes I think that would be a good idea as this section somewhat clutters the overall article. I'd recommend sticking to naming conventions already in place (see this page listing other articles called "Caves of xxxxx")... it may also be worthwhile to follow the separation used in Kelly, Burns et al in the Caves of Fermanagh and Cavan -- they include all Boho area caves in a section named "The Tullybrack – Belmore Uplands", which also includes sites on the south and west sides of Belmore mountain, as well as Reyfad, Pollarafta, the Knockmore caves etc. This seems more geologically sound, as not all related karst sites in the area are actually within Boho as a geographical unit. The initial description of the article could of course make reference to the fact that Boho itself contains many of the sites though.
So by this reckoning, perhaps a page named Caves of the Tullybrack and Belmore hills ("uplands" is probably too localised in its linguistic usage)? This could then be linked to from the geological section of the Boho article via a {{main}} tag. Fattonyni (talk) 00:35, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, yes you are right, it does clutter the article somewhat, i will try to make a start but as you also have stated, i have a few projects on the go at this moment as well as holidays to take:)Youngbohemian (talk) 11:09, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

OK, I have created a page with exactly this name and taken a lot of detailed information off the main Boho page, i hope its a good start. Youngbohemian (talk) 21:53, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi youngbohemian, yes that's a great start :-) I've rearranged the intro a little and done various tweaks to formatting for consistency (I kept meaning to do this when it was part of the Boho article anyway). I may return to the article at a later date, perhaps to rearrange it a little more along the lines of Caves of the Mendip Hills or similar, but for now it works quite nicely I think. Fattonyni (talk) 11:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks once again, it is only a rough outline for the caves and maybe it could benefit from a few images but as yet I have not had the chance to take any, maybe only the arch cave. My plan was as the articles or individual sections of the Boho article expand to consider moving them to their own respective pages.Youngbohemian (talk) 10:55, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Editing

if another editor takes out a whole section of text without explanation , what is the procedure i.e. Glangevlin, there was a paragraph removed but no explanation ?Youngbohemian (talk) 09:52, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, bit annoying when this happens. The short answer is: it depends :-S ...in this case there have been two editors making changes. One anonymous user who removed a large amount of sourced information and replaced it with some very general touristy-sounding stuff, but with a couple of other useful points. The second editor, Sarah777, is a regular editor in many Ireland articles and I'd generally trust her judgement -- in this case, she's removed half of the text added by our anonymous editor (and with good cause, by the sound of it) and included an explanation, but neglected to restore the previous text that the other user had initially removed. I've done what I would normally do on seeing this, which is to restore the information that had been deleted without explanation, while also keeping the couple of useful points left behind from the edited version of the anonymous user's text.
If this sort of thing happened again I would write a message on the editor's talk page and ask why the text had been deleted -- but usually if something is deleted without explanation and it is clearly of use to the article, I would generally restore the text and assume that the editor made a mistake. Fattonyni (talk) 00:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

ok thanks for that . sorry i have been busy with other things .Youngbohemian (talk) 17:28, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Reyfad

Hey, I was wanting to add a reference to reyfad in the article on Newgrange because the style of carvings on the stones in some instances is identical . I do not want to add extraneous information to the article or disrupt the flow, what do you think is the best course of action . Also i notice for a Fermanagh stub type you need 60 articles ! have we not got that many by now ? Youngbohemian (talk) 22:32, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Hey Youngbohemian, sorry for my lack of presence -- I only get occasional 10-minute stints in WP these days! And you're right, when I tried to create the County Fermanagh stub category last year I was told about the 60 article requirement... at the time the number was around 25, so unless you've created 40-odd articles since then, we might not yet qualify :-)
Good point about the stone comparisons, although as I have no archaeological knowledge I can't attest to whether the markings at Reyfad are particularly similar to those at Newgrange (for example, there is no mention of cup and ring mark stone art at Newgrange) -- so I would be averse to adding a comparison in the main prose of the NG article. Instead I see that Reyfad was linked in the "See also" section -- I've changed this to point to a non-existant article called "Reyfad Stones", which I've then redirected to "Reyfad". I think this is probably the best way to link the two, particularly as they're quite far apart in archaeological age. It would probably be worthwhile updating the cup and ring mark article with a link to Reyfad Stones as well. Good work on all the articles so far though, I like what you've assembled. Fattonyni (talk) 10:52, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Ok I see your point . For Newgrange they do not use the terminology cup and ring but rather megalithic art or curvilinear patterns, both of which are used now in the Reyfad article but the markings are almost identical since i visited the two or them within the space of a week however it has to be somebody else's conclusion since no original research is allowed . Thanks for tiding up the Reyfad article, I have created 27 articles I think so we are not there yet and i am curently trying to put more facts into each of the article. Youngbohemian (talk) 15:56, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

I cannot seem to upload the correct version of the details of the cup and ring markings of the reyfad stones The Reyfad Stones.jpg , it seems not to display the picture on the file could you do this for me if you have time . Youngbohemian (talk) 20:52, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Actually I think this might be a server problem, picture updates seem to be very slow at the moment, could be to do with maintenance on Wikipedia's servers. I'd say try again in a couple of days -- besides I don't have the picture you want to upload! :-) Fattonyni (talk) 11:16, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Boho Townlands for deletion

i noticed that there is a crop of Boho townlands up for deletion . How do i stop this or delay this . I have not had much time to add to the articles so they are mostly skeleton articles and if they were deleted i would just recreate them again . Any ideas ? If you have any more material please feel free to add. Youngbohemian 22:40, 27 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Youngbohemian (talkcontribs)

Proposed deletion of Speleology (disambiguation)

The article Speleology (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unnecessary disambiguation per WP:TWODABS, a hatnote is sufficient

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Tavix (talk) 16:04, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
