Thank you for your recent contributions to Houston, Texas related articles. Postoak 23:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the compliment on the article. I would like it if both sections were seperate. The reasoning behind this is that some of us are using this as a standard in regard to military bios. Civilian honors should not be mixed up with military honors. My objective these last two weeks is to make sure that every Hispanic Medal of Honor recipient has an article in Wikipedia. Cheer! Darwin Awards

British vs. American English

Just a note re: your edits to Darwin Awards - "honour" and "sterilising" are not typos or mispellings, but are the English spellings of those words. See WP:MOS#National varieties of English and WP:SPELLING. MarkBrooks 21:15, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

My edits to "honour" and "sterilising" Darwin Awards were actually reverts back to the way they were spelled in the original text and someone had changed them. The "honour" and "sterilising" versions are actually British spellings. I changed them back to American English. The other changes I made were for grammar/typos/clarity.--Evb-wiki 16:00, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
So, they're actually the British English spellings? Isn't that a tautology? :) MarkBrooks 05:30, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Too much Movie information. Route to movie section instead.

There's way too much informaiton about hte movie. I am not REMOVING information from the Wiki; I am redirecting interested parties to thte movie section, which is better-maintained. Thank you! Thanks for reading this discussion. 69.181.208.148 01:27, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I removed your entire TALK page? <blush> sorry, Evb-wiki. Wendy Wendy 04:24, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:The world at port in Mackay 2006a.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:The world at port in Mackay 2006a.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:15, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

The edited version of this image is my own work; however, the original image belongs to Amos T. Fairchild, as indicated.

Houston article

Thanks for checking the page balance for me. I thought the sources were fixed on those images I removed. oh well Postoak 05:26, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Lakewood

Didn't you know about Uncle Joe Osteen?? :) Postoak 04:56, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

There must have been more than one. ("About Joes . . .") But they must be black sheep, 'cause they weren't mentioned on the ref-link. --Evb-wiki 05:07, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Lol. It appears that everyone in that family is a preacher. Postoak 05:17, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Wow! Fast restoration!!

You are quick on the trigger correcting vandalism on the motorcycle article. I thought I caught it pretty quickly, but you already had fixed it. Very fast fingers on the keyboard! Jeff dean 21:15, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I just stumbled upon it. Couldn't chance someone thinking we were sloppy editors, or stupid ones. --Evb-wiki 21:20, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

External Links for Lakewood Church Article

And you are even now deleting the links from other articles with more then two links?? But you give me too much credit, some of those links you deleted were not added by me. -Samuel Pakalomattam 27/02/02007

Next time I see someone add multiple external links (say 15) I certainly will. And . . . yes, they were all yours. (Check the page history.) --Evb-wiki 18:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Easy does it with those reversions

Hello Evb-wiki -- Like others, I greatly appreciate your commitment to reverting vandalism, but please be careful that you really hit what you are aiming at. Earlier today, you twice visited the Aristotle page to revert vandalism. The first time you thought you were reverting to the last version by Wareh, but actually you reverted to the version after Wareh's edit and left the vandalism intact. The second time, 76.190.70.167 had made a string of 3 vandal edits. You reverted 76.190.70.167's final edit, but not the 2 before it, leaving some of the junk in place and increasing the likelihood that it would be overlooked by subsequent editors. Please keep up the battle against vandalism, but please be careful too. Respectfully -- WikiPedant 20:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Noted. I'll be more careful. Thanks. --Evb-wiki 20:21, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Blocked for 3RR

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating the Three Revert Rule on Houston, Texas. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below.

--Ginkgo100talk 22:48, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

If possible, I also would like to support Evb-wiki's unblock request. The editor involved stated on my talk page that he "could care less" about the other editors of the article and apparently did not have time to discuss the issue at Talk:Houston, Texas after Evb-wiki and I both requested consensus. Thank you, Postoak 23:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

 Y

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

I reconsidered and decided to unblock both parties involved for now, but either may be blocked again if this particular edit is reverted again. I'd rather have both of you able to discuss on the talk page than stuck by a block. Even if you feel you are "right", remember that revert-warring advances nothing and just disrupts the project.

Request handled by: Ginkgo100talk 23:59, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

CSD tag on DSC

Just an FYI, but I reverted the edits instead of deleting the article. The article was originally a disambiguation page when it was replaced by the edits that you tagged. You'll want to check the article history before CSD tagging to make sure an editor hasn't replaced content instead of making a new article. Thanks for helping out. =) -- Gogo Dodo 05:19, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I saw that. Good catch. I'll have to keep an eye out for that next time. Thanks. --Evb-wiki 05:21, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

DB for pages not in English

Just an FYI, you aren't supposed to tag not-English pages for CSD as nonsense, as you did at Temizlik. There is a tag for articles that are not in English and exist in another Wikimedia project, but I can't read this one (and don't even know what language it's in) so I'm not sure if that criteria applies. Natalie 15:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Totally ignore me - you fixed it as I was writing this. Natalie 15:14, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Right. I swapped the tag. But, I have no way of knowing whether this article exists "in another Wikimedia project." So, now I'm wondering which tag is correct. A quick google of a phrase didn't turn up a wiki-page. I think it appears to be Russian. --Evb-wiki 15:21, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Nonsense and Blingbarbie

The WP:CSD G1 ({{db-nonsense}}) should really be reserved for word salad and complete bollocks. My Scene Juicy Bling Kennedy Doll (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) should be speedy deleted, but under CSD G11 (Barbiespam) or G12 (it's ripped off from the Walmart page on Blingbarbie). Hope this helps, Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:23, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I guess the name seemed so much like jibberish to me I jumped to the conclusion that "My Scene Juicy Bling Kennedy Doll" was a hoax, i.e., complete bollocks. --Evb-wiki 00:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
You're absolutely right, the name scored 8/10 on my bogosity meter. But the contents got 9/10 on the copyvio-sensor: far too much like professional marketing-speak. I usually pick a weird-looking phrase and google for it. It's surprising how often it works, although I reckon at least half of the spam we get is copyvio too, only not indexed by google. All the best! Angus McLellan (Talk) 01:31, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Albertaco's Mexican Food Inc

why have you nominated my article for deletion? another editor marked it for notability and i am currently establishing its notability so please hold off on deletion Iono s 14:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Your "article" violates the Wikipedia policy on spam, IMHO. An administrator will consider whether or not I am correct. --Evb-wiki 14:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

CSD

Please check the article history before nominating an article for speedy deletion, especially if the article name looks legitimate, e.g. [1]. Sometimes someone just blanks a page and adds their own crap, and you just need to revert to the legitimate earlier version. --W.marsh 13:30, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Will do. Sorry. Sometimes it tough to decide whether the article name looks legitimate. I'll try to take that into consideration. --Evb-wiki 14:15, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Yousufguda

You'd marked this as a db-nonsense Speedy, which I don't believe was accurate. The place may well be non-notable, but the article was not nonsensical as it indicated that it was a place in Hyderabad with a particular landmark. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 23:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps it should be marked as db-nocontext, since there are several places called Hyderabad and it gives no indication of to which it refers. The picture is of the U.S. Capitol building, so I am suspicious. I have no idea what the article is about. --Evb-wiki 00:00, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Owen J. Quinn

Just want to say thanks for helping me out with this new wiki page considering I have never made one before. I appreciate you giving some insight on how to set up the page and make it acceptable for wikipedia. --Yankeez007 01:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. The article is a good start with an interesting subject. You can learn a lot by observing how other editors format pages and what tools they use. Happy editing. --Evb-wiki 01:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

RadioGreen

Hello, I was wondering what could make my article more encyclopedic. Thank you for your time and help.

--Josh Hubi 15:28, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

When an article on an otherwise encyclopedic topic has the tone of an advertisement, the article can often be salvaged by rewriting it in a neutral point of view and adding context, e.g., historical relevance or community recognition. Please provide sources to establish the subject's notability. Of course, the need for sources goes beyond notability. Information added to an article must be verifiable, and facts included must be attributed to a reliable source. Thanks. --Evb-wiki 02:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Nicknames in Houston

Are you serious? Really? Again?

It was decided that the nicknames in concern at that time would be included in the article. Do not tell me that it wasn't because I was the first to change it. Those names were added to the Culture section, left alone for days, and not discussed afterwards. Now all of a sudden you decide you don't want them there. The SECOND time you have taken it upon yourself to change something without others approval. You know I'm not lying, so leave them there. Thank you...--Mphifer254 04:07, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Noboby agreed that every nickname Houston has or could have should be listed. Read the talk page on this issue. --Evb-wiki 04:11, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
What are you saying?? The issue was originally between me and Postoak for several widespread nicknames. I added maybe four of them to the Culture section. Everybody was okay with it. So what is your beef? I added "HTX" and "H-Town," also. Why not those two? Or why not, fuckin "Clutch City"? Be fair. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mphifer254 (talkcontribs) 04:17, 26 March 2007 (UTC).
I only deleted the two that were previously specifically discussed and yet still added by you today. I have not edited that section before. --Evb-wiki 04:24, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
But nobody ever agreed that those two couldn't be in the article, so you can't do that.--Mphifer254 04:32, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
I can too. You are the one who should not add questionable nicknames without getting a concensus on their inclusion. --Evb-wiki 04:36, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
ps - I'm moving this discussion to Talk:Houston, Texas.
This would be a great soap opera.."Nicknames of Our Lives" :) Postoak 07:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. I wouldn't watch that one either. --Evb-wiki 07:26, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
No end to the madness..lol. Also, tell me what you think about the removal of Rice and UH if you don't mind. Am I wrong? Postoak 23:24, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I really thought that internal note would help. Regarding the UH/Rice issue, I don't have a strong opinion. The issue for me is not rules or policies; its quality. And I guess either way works. Although, for paragraph balance and aesthetic form, I'd leave it as is. On the other hand, if you mention UH/Rice, what about TSU, St. Tom's, HBU, etc.? Oh, and just because other articles do it one way, doesn't require conformity. My 2¢. Regards. --Evb-wiki 23:38, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. Postoak 23:52, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Removed And Thanks

Hello Again, It looks like the RadioGreen article was removed as spam. I just wanted to stop by and thank you for the help and time you gave to help me. Looks like it did not help. --Josh Hubi 15:27, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

No prob. It was rather personal. And autobiographical articles are strongly discouraged. Maybe some other day. Cheers. --Evb-wiki 15:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, one quick question. I forgot to save the content on the article I and wanted to place it on the "about" page on the RadioGreen site. Is this still saved somewhere or gone for good? --Josh Hubi 15:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure. I think there may be some way to find it, but I couldn't track it down. Maybe an adiminstrator can tell you for sure. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} after the question on your talk page. --Evb-wiki 15:52, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Derrick Comedy

Be sure to check page histories before tagging them for speedy deletion. Also, choose one tag. --Future Fun Jumper (TIC) 22:47, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Josh Warner

I had a quick questions for you regarding your last edit of the Josh Warner article... Since you have now removed the db-bio tag, can we remove the "Contested candidates for speedy deletion" and "Candidates for speedy deletion" categories? Or is the article still subject for speedy deletion?

I want to thank you for forcing me to defend my article... A lot of the effort that I put in to finding references to defend it from deletion will come in handy in expanding the original article (and filling in references).

I also want to thank you for taking the time to cleanup the article a bit by splitting up the large article in to more meaningful sections.

-Shaun → Shaunco 02:02, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm assuming I'm allowed to remove a tag I placed, because it can be removed by anyone except the original author. The contest tag, on the other hand, should be handled by an administrator. My experience suggests that the chance of it being speedily deleted now is very slim, both because of the improvements and because someone other than the original author has expressed the intent to work on it. However, it still needs work. Please provide sources to support the subject's notability. Of course, the need for sources goes beyond notability. Information added to an article must be verifiable, and facts included must be attributed to a reliable source. Regards. --Evb-wiki 02:11, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response... I will leave my contest tag and the categories for an administrator. I will continue to improve the article, add sources, and make the notability more clear. Thanks again for the help! Shaunco 02:15, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

F.Y.I. → Citizendium

Because of the incredible amount of vandalism and the prevalence of anonymous users on Wikipedia, I am devoting more of my attention to the new, more controlled competitor, Citizendium, and less to Wikipedia.

It is not certain that Citizendium will survive and prosper, but I think it is worth the support of honest users of Wikipedia. If it does prosper, I will likely work with it exclusively in the future.

Richard Enraght

Dear EVB-wiki, Many thanks for cleaning up/editing the Richard William Enraght page and getting me out of trouble, I am very new to Wikipedia, and became confused in what was "legal or illegal" in terms of Wikipedia's editing techniques. I became confused with all the help information on wikipedia resulting in a "personal information overload", but thanks to your help, the Richard Enraght page worked out well. I did remove the 1880 Richard Enraght newspaper cartoon from the Richard Enraght page because of confusion over copyright and the Warnings that kept poping up, I am sure it must be out of copyright, as it is over 100 years old and the newspaper no longer exists. Many Thanks for your Help Dave —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Daveportslade (talkcontribs) 19:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC).

External Link

Dear Evb Thanks for sorting out the external link for Fr Enraght under "Ministry", I have just looked and have seen the way you have entered the Link, I made the mistake of putting a shift + forward slash between "external link | and St Andrew Church Portslade by Sea", resulting as you knew, of not working. I think I have confused setting up this Link with the way its is done with Wiki Links where the Wiki page does not match the name used e.g. "Church of St. Paul, Bighton | St Paul Church Brighton"

Thank you for your help Dave 18.40 UK time 18th April 2007

That's exactly right. External links use just a space, and wiki-links use just a |. You had already fixed the others like that. BTW, the article is much better. You've done pretty good work so far. Cheers. --Evb-wiki 18:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Fr Enraght

Dear Evb, Have just added external link to Rev Dr Ewer of the USA to make the page more international, hope this is OK with you, there is nothing more I wish to change or add, unless I can track down a rare photograph of Fr Enraght, Thanks for all your help, after my very shaky start as a wiki novice, I have learnt a lot under your guidance. Best Wishes, Dave

Advice sorted

Dear Ewb, Your advice please, I have a photograph of Fr Enraght’s gravestone is it appropriate to add it to his page or not ? daveportslade 09:23, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Sure. I think gravesights are always appropriate in bio-articles of people who are deceased. Put it in the Later life and legacy. (I bet that's where you were planning to put it.) Remember, this is a living encyclopedia, so it is never finished. Others may edit (or vandalize) it, and it might need to be updated or maintained. You may find aditional information years from now. Happy editing. --Evb-wiki 12:18, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm borderline with this being tagged as speedy. I've not removed the tag, but I've noted my concerns on the article's talk page. --Darksun 04:44, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Richard Enraght redux

Dear Evb, Question about "my" Talk:Richard William Enraght, you put comments on there, quite rightly, correcting plus warnings over my novice attempt at creating a Richard Enraght article last week, is it possible to delete the comments now ?, as there are no positive remarks there, that does not bother me, as you have sent encouragement to me saying that I going in the right direction, but it did not show up on the public "Talk:Richard William Enraght" , my only concern in asking you can possibly delete your earlier comments, is that anyone reading may think all my earlier problems are still current, and start undoing all your work in editing to get the article straight Regards Dave daveportslade 17:52, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

The "Talk" pages help provide the history of the article and should not be deleted. Wikipedia's policy is to archive discussions that are out of date, rather than remove the discussion. There is no need to be concerned, the comments on the page are pretty common for new articles, and experienced editors know to be aware of the date stamps and timeline of the comments. --Evb-wiki 18:04, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Dear Evb, Forgot to say, Thank You for updating and clarifying, the Smith v. Whitney (US Supreme Court) link in “Further Reading”, a subject you are obviously well versed in. Regards Dave daveportslade 19:35, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

not sure how to do this...

Sorry, I just copied all of this from my talk page, since I didn't know if you'd ever see it there. I don't know how all this works.

edit Sorry, I've never done this before. This is my first Wikipedia edit. There are many, many sources to cite for that change. One is here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,3857472,00.html

I can find more, if needed. Just about any biography of the life of Sylvia Plath will corroborate that Assia Wevill never married Ted Hughes. Indeed, the fact that he wouldn't marry her contributed to her despair. Marniestarr 18:14, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] another source article http://books.guardian.co.uk/departments/biography/story/0,,1925625,00.html

[edit] how does this work So how does this work? How many people have to agree with the change before it is made? When will the change show up in the entry? How is the "consensus" thing supposed to work if my edit isn't allowed to stay up? How will people see it in order to agree or disagree with it? Marniestarr 18:34, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
