Kelway edit

Hello EmmylouWilliamson,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Kelway, may be copied from http://www.linkedin.com/company/kelway-uk-ltd. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 10:26, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Kelway edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kelway requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Removing Speedy at Kelway edit

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for taking the time to create a page here. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you created yourself. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the deletion tag you removed from Kelway. Please do not continue to remove the deletion tag, instead, if you disagree with the deletion, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the page by clicking this link. Once there, select the button that says Click here to contest this speedy deletion.
  2. This will take you to the talk page, where you can make your case by explaining why the page does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do. For further help about the deletion, you could contact the user who first placed the tag or a highly active user who is willing to help with deletion. This message was left by a bot, so please do not contact the bot about the deletion. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 10:40, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notes edit

First, material on Wikipedia doesn't need permission for use - just a URL acknowledgement. Second, you cannot use material from copyright sources here even if the owners have given you permission. Wikipedia is licensed for free reuse anywhere by anyone (subject to the acknowledgement) under CC-BY-SA 3.0, and unless text is public domain (usually through its age), or licensed under CC-BY-SA, it cannot be imported to here. Third, your article didn't show the significance of Kelway (please see WP:CORP) or provide reliable independent sources WP:RS. Fourth, not every company gets an article here. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a directory or profile host. One doesn't need to show notability to be on LinkedIn or AboutUs. Here, one does, and there are many companies that do good work but never achieve the widespread coverage that we require for verification. A lot of people mistake 'Wikipedia is free to edit' for 'anything goes'. If you can produce an article without promo wording (WP:NPOV about neutral point of view - a difficult one for people working in PR...) and with the RS type references, put it in your user space at User:EmmylouWilliamson/DRAFT (just click and save) and ask for advice. If a patroller tags it for G11 (spam), ask them (or me) why. Otherwise, so long it isn't a copyvio (WP:COPYVIO) it should be safe for a while. Peridon (talk) 12:10, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notsbility edit

This is not a "portal" nor a directory listing site nor a place to promote a business. It is an encyclopedia. In order to be included here a company has to be notable. Harry the Dog WOOF 13:29, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks but I'm no clearer. As far as I can see kelway the company IS notable. It's listed in the sunday times tech track 100 and has appeared in numerous articles.... Is there anyone available for a walk through of what to do?

If have any questions or need help, feel free to leave a message at the help desk, and other Wikipedia editors will be happy to assist you. It appears that the main problem with the original article was a copyright violation. You can't simply copy text from the company's Linkedin profile or website. You have to write about the company yourself, using references to back up what you write. Harry the Dog WOOF 13:36, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict)
EmmyLou,
I'm sorry you've been confused and somewhat overwhelmed. Wikipedia can be a confusing place until you've gotten the feel for it. You should definitely start by reading the Wikipedia article "Your first article" -- that will give you a lot of pointers on how to make a good article, and things to avoid.
After reading that article, I would suggest that you create your new article in your user space, either at User:EmmylouWilliamson/sandbox or at User:EmmylouWilliamson/Kelway. (If you click on either of those red links, you will be brought to a page where you will be told that the page does not exist, but you can create it if you like. Click on the link to create the page, and edit it there.) Help on how to edit the page is available at the Wikipedia tutorial.
You mention that Kelway is notable, according to Wikipedia's standards. To bolster this argument, you should find sources that indicate this notability. These sources can either be online or print articles or books written about Kelway by independent authors. If you need help on how to use these sources in your article, see WP:Citing sources.
When writing about Kelway, please remember not to make the article promotional. You have mentioned that you wish to create an article here so that Facebook can then mirror that content on the Kelway page. That's a really cool feature of Facebook, but you mustn't write the page here so that it can appear as an ad on Facebook.
Good luck! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me or any of the other editors who have contacted you here, or post a {{helpme}} tag on your page with the question you need answered. Despite some of the ominous-sounding warnings, we're generally a friendly bunch of people willing to help out a new editor who sincerely wants to build the encyclopedia. If you are looking for help... edit

Hi, I noticed you recently created a page that asked for help. I had to delete that page, since it wasn't really an article that readers would find helpful. If you are looking for help, you can add {{helpme}} to this page, typing your question below it, or you can just ask at the help desk. I hope this helps!
