Mountaintop removal mining - your edits

You seem to have a problem with my deletion of a paragaph that contains unsupported data regarding this method of coal mining.

The test for the statement is verifiability, no original research, and neutral point of view . Importantly source material must have been published WP:SOURCE.

The contentious text cites Hendryx, M.; Wolfe, L.; Luo, J.; Webb, B. (2011). "Self-Reported Cancer Rates in Two Rural Areas of West Virginia with and Without Mountaintop Coal Mining". Journal of Community Health. 37 (2): 320–327.

Hendryx et al provides two sources for this statement:

• Pericak, A. A., et al (2018). Mapping the yearly extent of surface coal mining in Central Appalachia using Landsat and Google Earth Engine. PLOS ONE, 13(7)

• Appalach. Voices. 2017. End mountaintop removal coal mining. Appalachian Voices. http://appvoices.org/end-mountaintop-removal/

Pericak et al makes no mention of at all of this data. i.e. unsupported.

The Appalachian Voices website reference makes the statement but provides no source for the very specific data. This fails WP:SOURCE on a website that fails the WP:NPOV test. i.e. it should lack editorial bias, and significant views must have been published by reliable sources.

I've searched this statement with the suspiciously round numbers, and can find no source apart from the Appalachian Voices website - if the source of the published research could be found I'd have no trouble accepting the statement, but as it is, it's just a political slogan. regards John beta (talk) 03:06, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

John beta, I believe there has been a misunderstanding. I did not add any information about health effects of mountaintop removal. I added the information that 500 mountains have been destroyed by MTR, burying 2,000 miles of streams. I have not added any citations to Hendryx 2011. The only citation I added was to the 2020 publication "Impacts of Coal Use on Public Health", where this statement is quite clear, "To date, MTR has destroyed more than 500 mountains and buried more than 2,000 stream miles".
