Bold, revert, discuss edit

I noticed your debate about UTF-8. It occurs to me that you may not be aware of WP:Bold, revert, discuss, an important general principle that applies to almost all articles. One person makes a bold edit, another person reverts it, then they take it to the article talk page to discuss and try to thrash out a compromise solution or at least try to see if there is a consensus among regular editors of the article concerned (who maybe expected to know more about the topic than most) on the merits of the case. You should certainly use the article talk page first: if you refer to fora like WP:3O, you are asking people who know less about the topic than you do and risk having an opinion on procedure rather than the facts of the case. I can't see that you have tried talk:UTF-8 first?

I hope you find this useful. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 10:08, 12 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
