On stubs

Hi Eewilson, I have been creating drafts for List of Dracophyllum species as well as a template and realising there are so many red links, do you think I should spam stubs, to improve later? Thanks, Dracophyllum 11:27, 6 August 2021 (UTC) Hi! I did for the Symphyotrichum species. I created a text file with the beginning text and citations, then pasted it in each one and changed them according to the species. Most have basic data that came from three sources. You would likely find the same with Dracophyllum, depending on the species' native location, like POWO for valid name/authorities/synonyms, IUCN for conservation data, and a flora for basic description. Remember to attach the created file to the Wikidata record, but if you aren't comfortable with that, a bot will probably come around within a few days and do it. And put the Stub template tag at the bottom as well as create the talk page with the Plants Project template {{WikiProject Plants|class=stub|importance=low|needs-image=yes}}. If you have an image, you can leave off the needs-image qualifier. Each one probably took less than 15–20 minutes once I got into it, and now I almost forget that a month ago, there were many red-links for that genus. So if you feel so inspired, figure out what should be in a Dracophyllum stub, and WP:BEBOLD! —Eewilson (talk) 11:54, 6 August 2021 (UTC) Aren't Navboxes neat? I remember in the GA review I requested you remove the long captions on the root images, but now I wonder whether you really need four separate images just of the root structure... Also I would recommend testing out some more multiple image blocks – particularly in the description and ecology sections. I noticed that you seemed to be a little confused about the featured article process, so let me sit down and clarify some things for you: proper featured article candidates require a source review, and image reviews, and three prose reviews in order to be passed. "Three prose reviews" is unofficial and super flexible, so it really depends on the article's quality (for example, this old one of mine had like 10). Spot checks are good but are optional for passing. It depends on whether or not someone comes in and does it, and due to a lack of participation, it's unlikely for this to happen. If you want to contact the coordinators, one subheader will suffice and any future comments you have you can put under it. It helps save space so this page, which transcludes all the reviews, doesn't get so massive. I'd also ping the coordinators a little less; there's only four of them that handle the front page, so although it's simply you being passionate it can appear to be nagging to the coordinators. Can you give me one of these for how to get your DYK scheduled, too! :) Eewilson (talk) 18:39, 12 November 2021 (UTC) Eewilson, DYK is far simpler in comparison to GA and FAC; nominate your article, and eventually, a reviewer will come in and check it out. Since the requirements for DYK is 5x expansion or GA promotion, the chances of the reviewer pointing out something about the article directly is unlikely (not impossible, but unlikely). They have a checklist of things they need to check off that most likely were already cleaned up during a rewrite/expansion, so it's nothing to worry about. There's also not only an abundance of common DYK patrollers, but users who have over five DYKs are required to review another one (quid pro quo), so it should be picked up in about under a week. When a reviewer leaves a comment, it's always something small; when you see a green checkmark, you're in the clear! It notifies the coordinators and they do all the queue organization for you. Since DYKs are barely disputed and easy to manage compared to the very stingy FAC, so it functions well on its own without much need for coordinator intervention. Is there anything required on my end for that to happen? The TFA request page gets about 15-20ish requests monthly for the coordinators to pick on, so most people keep an eye on that page to see the progress. Most likely users with a TFA request (and the coordinators themselves sometimes) will go, "Ah, what the heck. FWIW, it was puzzling that I didn't pick up a 3rd support on my previous plant list for months (until your support), and it seems odd to me that your nomination doesn't have any supports yet. There's been some evidence this year that FLC is slowing down, but it doesn't appear to be broken, and processes like FLC tend to be sturdy over the long run (with occasional hiccups). Science-y lists at FLC (as well as articles at FAC) sometimes have a harder time ... because science puts constraints on what we can do, above and beyond the constraints that other nominators are dealing with. Patience might work ... or not, I'm not sure. If it goes on much longer, then we should probably start talking with some of the regular reviewers and see if there's something we need to be doing. - Dank (push to talk) 15:30, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Thank you, Dracophyllum! Yes, I am working on John C. Semple, my favorite. Right now, I'm just formatting his publications, including finding links to them. I know the long list won't be in the article, but it will be nice to have them for future reference. And it is work that doesn't require too much thinking. It is difficult to find published personal information for living people, so most of the article will be a focus on his work, and there is much of it. Dracophyllum, I hope everything is okay. Take care of yourself. It's a holiday week here in the US (Thanksgiving is tomorrow). Traditionally, it means people cook large turkeys and other food for hours on end to then stuff themselves and then nap from the Tryptophan in the turkey (I'm vegetarian, so I save the bird), and interact with family whom they don't like and typically only see when they have to. Thank you for Symphyotrichum lateriflorum, about "the vascular plant species Symphyotrichum lateriflorum in the family Asteraceae. Symphyotrichum is a genus of about 96 asters native to the Americas. Most in the Northern Hemisphere bloom August–October, some as late as November. There are very few GA articles from this family, and this is the first for this genus. My benign cats "adore" my rats from afar, although if they had been brought up from kittens with them, they might have unusual interspecies friendships. Sorry for ghosting on you after promising to do a GA review--the semester ramped up just after that and with one thing and another, I've been taking a pretty extended break from editing. I'm going back on break now, so this is a relatively good time for me if you'd like me to look at any Symphotrichum articles.

Remind me next fall, and I can get you a picture of S. pilosum var. pringlei if you need one. We have it growing near S. depauperatum at some of our serpentine barrens here, and there is a marked difference in appearance...some of us have been questioning whether the latter species is in fact present at Soldiers Delight. I was just thinking about how the sorry little S. pilosum article needs improvement, that it should be a near-future project, and that adding good pics of var. pringlei would be a part of that, if I could find them. You must have been reading my mind!

Regarding a Symphyotrichum article, there are two possibilities here. Of lesser importance right now is Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. It is in the queue to be reviewed for GA.

The other is an entirely revamped List of Symphyotrichum species, which is awaiting on a review as a FLC. It has had a review for accessibility but nothing else. If you have time and the desire, looking at it is more of a priority because eventually, they get archived if there has been no review interest. :/ Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Symphyotrichum species/archive1. I would oh so appreciate it, and thank you for the apology!
