Image copyright problem with File:Outboard motor drawing.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading File:Outboard motor drawing.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 04:46, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Outboard motor drawing.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Outboard motor drawing.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. — neuro(talk) 11:01, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Slabbing/jigging edit

Hi Dusty. I had never heard of slabbing before, but there is plenty of stuff about it on the web. It is also used to catch smelt when ice fishing. Currently, the article on jigging just covers a bit about jig lures used in recreational fishing. It should also discuss jigging used in commercial fishing to catch squid and cod, as well as the special vessels built for this purpose. I agree with you that slabbing seems to belong in the article as well. Would you like to integrate your stuff about slabbing into the article, and perhaps add a bit about ice fishing as well? Is there something about slabbing that sets it apart from jigging in general, or is it just a regional term for "jigging"? Later I'll add a section about commercial jigging. Best regards. --Geronimo20 (talk) 22:55, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well you don't have to know anything about ice fishing – you just need to know how to track down the best sources on the web. If you can find enough, you can use them to write a properly cited article on ice fishing, and become a bit of an expert in the process. Wikipedia is really about sources. What can be properly sourced belongs in the encyclopedia so long as it is notable. What cannot be properly sourced doesn't belong. A lot of the fishing articles are not properly cited. Some aren't cited at all. This is particularly a problem with recreational fishing, since good sources can be difficult to find, just a lot of opinion on blogs and forums. Blogs and forums are not acceptable sources, so there is a major cleanup issue there.
Anyway, if you would like to have a go, we could crank jigging up for a joint DYK. The article needs another 9000 characters to qualify for a DYK. I can add the section on commercial fishing, say 6000 characters. So if you could aim at another 3000 characters for the recreational section then its a goer. If you get stuck I'll give you a hand. So over to you. If you decide to give it a go, I'd rather not start for another week (too much else happening). So it would be better to not add anything yet, because once we start we have only about 7 days to complete it. --Geronimo20 (talk) 04:36, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I agree with that. I changed the name because an article called Jigging is more importantly needed as the main article, and it can be supported by another article called Jigging lure. If you are interested, you can create a page called User:Dusty.crockett/Sandbox (just click on this red link and create the page). This will then become your personal sandbox. Then, if you give me permission to use your sandbox with you for a while, we can use the sandbox to write and rewrite those articles until we are happy with them. Then we can put them online and see if can get two DYKs. If we do it that way, thee will be no time pressure. --Geronimo20 (talk) 19:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Troll (angling) edit

Hi Dusty. When you delete material, as you did in Troll (angling), would you please indicate why in the edit summary. Actually, it's a help to other editors if you always comment your edits. Now I'm wondering why you deleted all that material? The article is a poor one, and needs to be developed. But I would have thought most of what you deleted belongs there in one form or another. --Geronimo20 (talk) 01:16, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

An exciting opportunity to get involved! edit

As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 00:15, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
