Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia!

What was your reason for saying that Shakespeare's "to pitied be" wasn't a split infinitive? It looks like one according to the definition at the article. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 17:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

You used the Talk page perfectly. I probably should have brought this up at Talk:Split infinitive with a note to you here to look there, and that's where I replied to you just now. Thanks for the interest in my edit. My previous reply to you on your page appears to have been deleted, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.

I am familiar with Wikipedia's policy for inline citations. I note in particular that it states "Wikipedia's verifiability policy requires inline citations for any material challenged or likely to be challenged, and for all quotations, anywhere in article space."

In this instance, my addition doesn't constitute 'any material challenged or likely to be challenged' (except by your good self), nor is it a quotation. Moreover, the addition is self-referring: any skeptical reader can go and find the book 'Airframe' by Michael Crichton (with the publication date I gave) and verify the information for himself. To add an inline citation to the same book seems redundant; and to delete my addition for not having such a citation seems (if you'll forgive me saying so) more obsessed with form than with information.

I look forward to your further thoughts.
