McJannet's Irvine edit

I know Irvine library has the book but since I am living in Germany, the getting to it will be impossible for a while. And I have the Amazon page bookmarked. The price tag, believe it or not, is quite decent and I would be prepared to pay more - if I had it. My wife has just come down with a serious Kidney problem and I am currently negotiating a protracted custody battle for my younger siblings and I am sure none of them would appreciate me spending more than 150 euros on a book published as recently as 1938. Mosside Bridge & carriageway edit

Hello. I see that BTHN fixed the Girdle Tool article. As you are clearly knowledgeable about our part of Ayrshire, do you know anything about the very ornate bridge in the old Montgreenan estate? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auchentiber_and_Montgreenan I cannot find out anything - Canmore doesn't appear to mention it. Montgreenan bridge edit

Hello Dreamer. A member of the Stewarton Historical Society told me about it as a passing comment on my Auchentiber & Montgreenan wiki site. He is local & may even live in Auchentiber. You are right about Mosside farm's location. The carriageway, embankment and bridge lie in the woods below the field in which the old farm's stands, running parallel to the Lugton Water. I have emailed RCAHMS and await a reply. I see that Montgreenan is not on the Historic Scotland index of 'gardens' and designed landscapes. Eglinton is listed. Riccarton & Craigie Station edit

Heh, I'm off work the week after next so I may try to get out there then (weather permitting!). Is Darvel Branch the last G&SWR article, or are there any more we've missed? Also, what's your thoughts on the remaining stations between Loudounhill and Strathaven? Put them in an article called Darvel and Strathaven Railway (don't think this was actually a 'real' title?) or stick them in another railway on the other side? The Hamilton and Strathaven Railway was freight only I think so might not be appropriate there, maybe on the 'Mid Lanark Lines'? Not sure myself. --Dreamer84 20:21, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think we are close to this - however the articles in the Galloway area need some work. South and East of Maybole I put some articles in when I created the route map templates, however just left section stub tags in for the detail.
As regards to go east into Caley area, I have been thinking about this for a while. Especially with consideration of the route through to Stonehouse and Larkhall - and hey presto we reach an extant line. --Stewart (talk) 21:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway edit

It has occured to me recently that we could do with some more pictures for this. My initial thoughts turn to some of the major/notable structures:-

  • Kirkhill Tunnel;
  • the old Kirkhill "Swiss Style" station building;
  • the viaduct between Patterton and Lyoncross;
  • Lyoncross;
  • (we have Gree Viaduct south of Lugton);
  • the crossing of the GPK&AR; and
  • Kilwinning viaduct.

Lanarkshire and Ayrshire railway. edit

Feel free to correct me but in the entry you mention that the last section of the line to close was between Kilwinning and Ardrossan. Isn't it more accurate to say that the L&AR link was merged with the G&SWR line near Ardeer. Not trying to be nitpicky, but I though the Kilwinning section was long gone by then. Railways south of Ayr edit

Do you think part of the project should concentrate on doing something about the lack of info on the railways south of Ayr? Closing of Gorbals edit

Gorbals railway station doesn't quite make sense. The article says it closed in both 1928 and 1962. Did it reopen between these two dates or did something else happen? Did it only close in one of these years? Simply south (talk) 00:08, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Highland Railway edit

I think we now have a complete set of articles for the Highland Railway. Some are still stub articles, but this a milestone completed. This evening I have trawled through all the articles and templates. One thing I started doing is adding sources to the templates.

My working table of lines that became part of the Highland Railway will help.

There are also other associated lines (worked by the Highland Railway). This second table also includes the Cromarty and Dingwall Light Railway for completeness.

I have also adjusted the Template:Historical Scottish railway companies to reflect the worked by companies.

Your review of this would be much appreciated.

The CR, G&SWR and NBR will take quite a bit longer to reach the same state. I will see if I can make major inroads into the GNoSR lines over the remainder of the holiday period.
