Proposed deletion of Preservation of Persian music

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Preservation of Persian music, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. Third opinion project

User Doctorlloydmiller posted the following message (diff) on WP:3O:

"#I don't understand why when my book is listed as a reliable source for Persian Traditional Music on Wikipedia, everything I added to the article on Persian music or any other place on Wikipedia, even just a word or two, was viciously deleted as if I was some horrible stupid know-nothing and unwelcome intruder. In the world of Persian music, I am accepted as one of the scholars and my book has been called "the last word" on Persian muaic; so why would Wikipedia despise my every effort to submit material and seemingly block every word I have spend hours preparing? WP:3O's specific brief is to offer neutral third opinions on disputes between two editors. Its posting guidelines are further specified in the Wikipedia:Third opinion#How to list a dispute section of the project page.

Because the post blockquoted above ignored both the project's scope and its guidelines, it very likely will be removed by one of the project volunteers. Since you commented on the difficulties of reading and following our indeed very complex set of policies and guidelines, I feel compelled to expand a little on that. You're indeed right that our rules are very hard to understand for new editors. Please consider, however, that we're very frequently dealing with people who wrongly claim to have expert knowledge and to edit neutrally. This makes it necessary for us to explicitly state some rules concerning encyclopedic standards, more so than it is in a preselected academic environment where such rules (and even more of them, as you know) are being understood as part of the very fabric and frame of what constitutes an academic setting. We do not have that luxury, but all you really need to keep in mind is the spirit of our most basic rules, including WP:NPOV, WP:V, WP:OR, but also WP:BOLD and WP:IAR.

The best idea if you're not yet familiar with our admittedly intricate and initially confusing ruleset is to follow the basic suggestions outlined at Wikipedia:Writing better articles. user:Everyme 07:13, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. While the rules at Wikipedia are complex and tend to drive away experts, Wikiversity is just the opposite. You may wish to create a Persian traditional music project there and copy what you wrote that was deleted to subpages of that project. Thank you all for your kind interest in the problem a 70 year old non-computer idiot but scholar in one little field faces trying to figure out how to be of service to Wikipedia. Maybe wikiveristy is the best place to go; but for now I can't spend another three days all day trying to format a potential article to try to get on there because I have my university classes to teach and sometimes a concert almost every day to prepare for and to round up performers for. But it was fun trying to edit on Wikipedia although dissapointing being accuse of various crimes and having every word I added erased as if I were a Klan member or something. Persian music

Hey, I noticed your contributions to Persian music. I merged the information you placed in Preservation of Persian music into Persian traditional music. I'm sorry if my cuts feel excessive, but I'm not an expert, and I felt that the article had a significant bias, contrary to our policy of neutral point of view. I believe that is the main reason your article is up for deletion. I would encourage you to keep editing here, after all, we do need more experts around here. My advice for you is to try to tailor it down so that your prose reads more like an encyclopedia article rather than an essay. POV should be kept to a minimum; information added should be, as they say, "just the facts." I hope that you'll continue to edit here and help us out. bibliomaniac15 23:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
