Thank you for your feedback! RE: Made in NYC (nonprofit)

I really appreciate for your feedback regarding the Made in NYC article I wrote — I just updated the article to include more citations from newspapers and government forms.

Seeing as this is the first article I've written, I would love to know your recommendations for how else I can improve it!

Thank you again, Elady12345 (talk) 03:17, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

@Elady12345: I've moved the article back to mainspace (Made in NYC (nonprofit)). My suggestions now would be to add some categories to the page, and find some other related articles that can link back to the Made in NYC article. ... discospinster talk 19:49, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! I just added the {Distinguish} template "Not to be confused with Made in NYC (nonprofit)" to the top of the Made in NY page and the Made in N.Y.C. page. I also added some categories to the bottom of the article. Thank you for all your help!
All the best,

Thank you again for all your advise for how to improve my writing and editing! I'm really enjoying being able to contribute to the Wikipedia community — it's a fun way to make use of the summer! I just have a quick question regarding the first article I put together. It seems the article was moved back to the Draftspace with the reason being that the article needs more reliable, independent sources. I'm just trying to figure out what other sources I should add. After going through many pages of Google and I was able to find an article from the House Beautiful magazine, a report from the U.S. Department of State, a NY Times article referring the the "Made in NYC Week" event, and an AMNY article. What do you think about these sources? I just want to improve my writing as best as possible and I would love to know what you think—
Thank you again!

Hi there. The article does have a source, which is the Catholic Encyclopedia. So I don't think it would be eligible for deletion. Maintenance template removal

Hello, you placed a maintenance template on Air-Tite Products regarding subjective wording. I believe I have corrected any wording issues that this could be in reference to. Will you please review my changes and remove the template from the article if those issues were properly addressed? Thank you for your guidance and time. MusicDude92 (talk) 07:46, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

@MusicDude92: There is still some wording in there that's a bit iffy, for example: In addition to needles and syringes, Air-Tite offers a wide variety of products for human healthcare including..., or Air-Tite provides a broad range of products for laboratory and industry use..., plus the use of ® and marks. It comes across as written for an sales or investment pitch rather than an encyclopedia article. The goal is just to inform, not to talk about how great the company is. ... discospinster talk 20:29, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
@Discospinster: That all makes perfect sense. I have since corrected these possible issues. Thank you for your advise, I will keep that in mind for my future contributions to the Wikipedia community. MusicDude92 (talk) 09:00, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
@Discospinster: Thank you again for your assistance in helping me to get this article up to Wikipedia standards. I really appreciate your responsiveness and value your input.
As you have already taken the time to work with me a bit on this article, I was wondering if you could possibly continue to mentor me some in the continued revisions of it? It appears another user has added an advert maintenance template to the page since you removed your maintenance template, and I am unsure of where to focus on making changes in my writing style. To me, the article appears to be written in an un-biased, neutral fashion, and I do not see any promotional content in it. I am still a bit of a novice in the Wiki-community, so any sort of guidance or feedback would be greatly appreciated! I would not want to continue to create content that may go against any sort of guidelines. MusicDude92 (talk) 14:06, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
@MusicDude92: It would probably be a good idea to reach out to User:DGG about this, since they are the one who placed the tag. I wouldn't want to guess on the reason, except that maybe there is still too much "corporate-speak" (e.g. it diversified its business into multiple market verticals) that doesn't belong on an encyclopedia article. ... discospinster talk 20:59, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
@MusicDude92: I consider it essentially a catalog listing of products, with a list of scattered applications. It uses fully capitalized tradenames, and uncited statements of quality (e.g. " At the time, it was the thinnest needle available as a disposable option") Apparently I and discospinner disagree on the merits of the article, diffefent reviewers sometimes do see articles in different lights-- but unless it is much improved I am very likely to list it for deletion, and then the community will decide. I notice also that almost all your work here is on one brand of hypodermic needles--making an article about it and adding links to it from more general articles-- it is reasonable to ask whether you are a connected contributor, in which case you must declare the connection. Please see our rules on Conflict of Interest If you are writing this for pay or as a staff member of the organization, see also WP:PAID for the necessary disclosures. DGG ( talk ) 23:54, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
@Discospinster:@DGG: Thank you both! I will continue to try to find more appropriate wording. As this is new territory for me, I was unaware that capitalized tradenames were inappropriate on here. I was just trying to make the article as accurate as possible in doing so, but will work on correcting this as well. User:DGG, I disagree with the thought of it being a catalog listing of products. Please consider however that this industry is literally medical devices. It makes sense to me to reference notable products, similarly to why you'd expect to find all of the different release histories listed for macOS, for example. As for the COI, I already answered that question when you asked on my talk page, but I will share it for you here as well. As I am still a bit of a novice, I do not have much work on here to begin with (so to judge "almost all" of my work is not covering much). I actually temporarily stopped creating content when I discovered the article I created was not up to standards so I could learn to improve before I continued my work. Regardless of that, I am also unsure of which brand you are referring to, as I have covered many brands and companies in the little bit of writing that I have done so far (a majority of which actually involves music). Nevertheless, I am not working for any particular brand nor am I being paid for my contributions. This is an industry I have a lot of interest in and believe I could share a wealth of knowledge to others who are interested in it as well. If you have any more tips for how I could improve moving forward, please let me know! I'd greatly appreciate any sort of assistance.

Query

Hello, Discospinster,

I have a question I'm hoping you can help me with. Lately, I've been looking at a list compiled by a bot of pages that have been recently moved from main space to draft space. What I'm looking for are instances when the main space location redirect to draft space has not been tagged for deletion. But also what I occasionally run into are experienced editors & admins moving pages into draft space and then the page creator recreating the page back in main space so there are two different versions. Reading Wikipedia:Drafts#Moving articles to draft space, it says that if the page creator objects to this move, they can move the article back from draft space to main space. So, that's fine...although the pages moved back are likely to be tagged for deletion, that's their choice.

But there is nothing about what to do if an editor just ignores the move and restarts up the article in the main space. Some recent examples of where this happened to moves you did are Arana Edmonds, Dior Johnson and Thai people in Vietnam. So, is the new version also moved to draft space? Are they merged into one draft article? Or should I just ignore it and let the page creator take their chances with the new page patrol? I know if there was one right answer to this problem it would be included in the policy guidelines so I guess I'm just asking what you would do when you come across these incidents. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 04:49, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

I guess you don't want to address this. Liz Read! Talk! 00:17, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
If it's the same person who wrote both the draft and the new article there doesn't need to be a history merge. I would usually just put it back in draft space if it's still not suitable to be published. ... discospinster talk 00:21, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

User Shatimpya

Hi, I notice that you reverted Shatimpya's removal of an AfD request on Lucy Chege, and that Shatimpya reverted your reversion. The AfD currently exists and has just been relisted. One of the dilemmas in the AfD was that a chunk of the article on Lucy Chege had been cut-and-pasted from her LinkedIn profile, the other that she appears to have written a friend's article, and he wrote hers, a sort of tit-for-tat self-authorship. Shatimpya has added a statement to the AfD debate simply stating "The copy-paste issue has been resolved", which I find misleading. There is no indication of how it's been resolved, or by whom, and since the text was removed from her LinkedIn profile, presumably it's harder to check now. Looking at what Shatimpya has so far done, it's been exclusively edits to try to prevent the deletion of Lucy Chege's article, and the article of the person who wrote the Lucy Chege article. I smell a rat. I wonder if Shatimpya is either a sock of one of them, or someone closely related to the pair of them. It appears to be an account with one purpose. I am not a sufficiently experienced editor to know how to proceed with such things. I suspect you probably are! Would you mind either letting me know what to do, or doing something, if you think it appropriate? If I'm completely wrong, please do tell me so. Many thanks! Harald Hadrada & Tostig arrived in the Humber Estuary on 18th September & sailed up the Ouse & landed at Riccall on 20th September (not 24th September, hence my alteration). My additions were deleted

Not sure why my brief additions were deleted yesterday, I believe by another contributor. I was there, at the first Bishop Luers competition when “swing choir” as a recognized style shifted. I was a member of Marion High School (Indiana) “26th Street Singers,” that won the Bishop Luers High School Swing Choir competition in Jan 1975. The shifts in styling were significant, being largely responsible for a change over from Swing Choir, with ladders and stools and drum breaks between sets, to today’s Show Choir style, ie, full choreography, sets, costume changes, etc. If what I added was offensive, I don’t know why. And even the info about the Bishop Luers competition, as the first of the many competitions to come. That info was already there. I was simply adding some brief and interesting first-hand history. Wonderful why this was done. PointeMark (talk) 23:39, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Recent Block of Risean_12345

Hi. I don't think we've spoken before, so please excuse the intrusion into your day!

I notice that you've recently blocked User:Risean_12345 indefinitely. I can understand why you've done this - they didn't react positively to guidance on their recent actions, many of which were unhelpful. I'm not asking for the block to be lifted, as making that request is clearly up to them, but I hope that if they do decide to request an unblock you will err on the side of leniency. The account is relatively new, and internal evidence (imperfect use of English, difficulty in adhering to our norms, etc.) suggests that they are finding the Wikipedia way a challenge. From where I'm sitting, it looks like the user is trying to make useful contributions, but hasn't yet learnt how to do this, nor how to work effectively with others. The user's actions don't look like malice to me, they just look like difficulty in mastering how we work. If User:Risean_12345 responds to this block with a commitment to learn better behaviour and a desire to perform more consistently with community standards, I hope you'll take this into consideration in reviewing the block. Thank you. RomanSpa (talk) 10:55, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't be the one reviewing the block anyway, but I disagree that an indefinite block is unwarranted. The editor's actions may not be malicious but they do demonstrate a lack of competence and an attitude suggesting they are not interested in learning how to contribute properly. In my experience it does not get any better. ... discospinster talk 13:57, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

A young achiever and is running country's one of the top RTPCR drive. Media supports, articles, TedX links were also submitted, Avani was also the part of FORBES magazine. Requesting you to please reconsider this and activate the same. Incase you think any additional info is required or how can I improve this, Ill be happy to consider.

Deletion of Chris Boswell (real estate agent)

DiscoSpinster, It is clear that most of the editors do not fully understand or realise the enormity of selling the amount of real estate my subject has in such a short space of time, in a market that is less than 20 years old. Another editor made a comment comparing "The London property market" to Dubai which is totally uncorrelated. The London market is hundreds of years old where as the Dubai Freehold market is 19 years old. To sell a property of that value ($50m) in the UAE is a phenomenal amount and cannot be compared to other property markets, hence the Media coverage and interview requests. If you refer to other "Real Estate Agents" in the US who have sold property of equal value, press coverage is similar and have been included into the Encyclopedia. I'm confused as to why. The record Sale is registered within the Land Department System (Citation Included). My subject is a notable member of the real estate community and frequently mentioned and interviewed in the domestic media. I respectfully request you kindly re-review and reconsider. Editing Competitive Intelligence article

Hi there,

I suggested adding at least one open-source/free source for competitive intelligence articles because the sources listed are subscription/fee-based. In the removal, I only saw a note "no article found," but the other sources have no articles either...just a link to an institutional page. I am not clear why the revision was rejected.

Bad will?

What is the reason behind the instant revert of my edits? I only added the official Greek transcription.--EllatheElefant (talk) 01:07, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

Attempted takeover of Newcastle United

Hi Discospinster. Sorry for the random message, I just thought I'd drop you a brief line in relation to the Attempted takeover of Newcastle United article whose title you kindly helped make more succinct a few days ago.

Specifically, I was just wondering whether you may be able to mark the article as reviewed (or otherwise) if you had a spare moment? My understanding is that new articles are automatically listed for review, however I just thought that as you may have already cast your eye over it, it was worth cheekily asking whether you may be able to mark it as such now rather than potentially waiting multiple months for it to suddenly be jettisoned back into my userspace! Thanks very much either way. Mark938920 (talk) 14:07, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Please Help

Hi, can you help me? On the White Latinos Wikipedia page some accounts are also falsifying the numbers of Mexican whites, the fact is vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 191.156.180.86 (talkcontribs)

Greetings Discospinster, I'm the other editor involved in the recent conflict in articles regarding White Mexicans, I write because i think it may be needed that I expose my side of the story clearly so this conflict don't escalates further. In short, the IP editor above is modifying the number of White Mexicans based on data from the CIA world factbook, however, that data is considered innaccurate and sources such as this one [10] (Which I've just added to the articles in question) in he page 9, note 1 directly state that CIA's numbers do not reflect the way Mexicans actually idenfy as ethnically speaking, I sincerely hope you weigh in on this issue, as the IP editor is being rather agressive on it's way of reverting, completely disregarding my arguments and also claiming things that don't make sense at all, such as CIA's numbers being "genetic"? and also threatening me multiple times. Thanks in advance. Pob3qu3 (talk) 23:51, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Complaint

Hi There,

You undid a few changes I made to the John Birch Society page. That you removed because you thought that they didn't appear constructive to you. Which does not make any sense. Surely knowing the political leanings of the sources qouted adds context and shows motivation motivation behind those qoutes. It helps the reader evaluate the validity of these claims and quite frankly obfuscating these sources really does seem to fly right in the face of wikipedias ideals of providing unbiased, factual and well researched sources.

I don't know you, but these actions make me absolutely convinced that you identify as a part of the political left wing. And that's not good, because the only way I have with certainty deduced that is by you showing a bias where there shouldn't be any by altering the text.

Or, to qoute my web developer - ya done goofed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.224.71.162 (talkcontribs)

Hi . You say "This article is written like a personal reflection, personal essay, or argumentative essay that states a Wikipedia editor's personal feelings or presents an original argument about a topic." I suggest that only the brand new final section is problematic in this respect. The rest of the article reads just like any other Wiki article. Therefore, in my view, you've overstated the issue in your label. Best. doylelmocollins 47.149.101.246 (talk) 04:18, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

As I said on your talk page, using a proper edit summary is important so that other editors know what you are trying to do. Edits such as this appear to be vandalism when you don't say what you mean by it. It's -annoying- to other editors to have to read your mind. ... discospinster talk 19:38, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
You have a point, it might appear to be possible vandalism. But you are responding with genuine vandalism of referenced additions to notable articles. Which is entirely out of scale with the issue you are trying to force through, when a request would have been more than sufficient. Please stop it. Victuallers (talk) 07:21, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Except you are still doing it. ... discospinster talk 15:03, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Key School

Hey, just wondering, why did you revert the edit on Key School today? WikiMaster111 (talk) 01:04, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Because it was an unreferenced claim about a living person. ... discospinster talk 02:04, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Ah, ok, I'll add it back and provide a reference then. WikiMaster111 (talk) 04:54, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Niger ambush

My husband, SSG Bryan Black, was killed in the Niger Ambush. I have given a direct link to Putnam who published the book I wrote on the ambush. I will now give multiple links to interviews and articles written on the subject.

Side note: The headcam footage is terrorist propaganda and every other site has had the decency to remove the killing of my husband, Jeremiah, and Dustin so that our children and their mothers don't happen upon the footage. Every human beings worst nightmare is to be forced to see their loved one killed in front of them. The videos availability forces that upon my teenage boys and my mother-in-law constantly as well as Jeremiahs children, and mother, and Dustin's mother. No you don't have to respect us or have any decency as a platform. You may hide behind anonymity and continue to be cruel but I ask you to reconsider.

Respectfully,

Michelle Black

Wikipedia is not censored of materials that are even considered cruel, but if you think something should be taken down then the proper procedure would be to start a discussion and get consensus from the community on the article's talk page. Or begin a discussion on the Wikipedia:Requests for comment noticeboard. ... discospinster talk 21:40, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Tobacco playbook

Hi. I removed that para because TobaccoControlGroup (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is a COI-spammer (indeffed as such). This is rather obvious POV-pushing, there's no real evidence that the tobacco playbook is linked with the very much 50/50 scientific view on vaping.

Judge Germain

CBC is as good a source as any for the judgment. If you want I can delete the added commentary.

It's fine to mention the judgement (with a source) but there doesn't need to be a personal analysis of it. If other reliable sources comment on it, those can be included as well. ... discospinster talk 15:25, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Hondurans

Hondurans are not descendants of Spaniards, not direct descendants of Spaniards. That’s disingenuous, mixed means they have both genetics. Doesn’t necessarily mean Hondurans are Spaniards. Hondurans have more Indian in them than Spaniards. That’s why there population look like Mayan and not like Spanish people. Do your research before you post these things.

Yes, if they have genetics of Spaniards then they are descendants of Spaniards. Why is that such a problem for you to understand? ... discospinster talk 20:18, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Text Messaging Historical Addition

My notifications show that my revision to the history of text messaging was removed with both you and MrOllie cited.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Text_messaging&action=history

The explanation for the revision removal states: "Thanks, but this is based on primary sources, we would need secondary sources".

What would you constitute as a "secondary source" as legitimate as World Cat, the Smithsonian Institution and or the Google Book review itself cited that references a summary of the thesis?

https://collections.si.edu/search/results.htm?q=TK6553.V33+1970a

https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Citizens_Two_way_Telecom_Network.html?id=wYIQnQEACAAJ&utm_source=gb-gplus-shareThe

https://collections.si.edu/search/results.htm?q=record_ID:siris_sil_195657

In regards to Secondary Sources, Wikipedia defines a secondary source as::

"A book review that contains the judgment of the reviewer about the book is a primary source for the reviewer's opinion, and a secondary source for the contents of the book.[16][17] A summary of the book within a review is a secondary source."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_source

The Google Books review at::

https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Citizens_Two_way_Telecom_Network.html?id=wYIQnQEACAAJ&utm_source=gb-gplus-shareThe

Specifically states::

"User Review - The subject of this book is ‘Text Messaging’ conceived in 1964 and completed in 1970."

How is that not considered relevant as a secondary source as defined by Wikipedia itself as a 'summary book review"?

Please clarify and provide guidance as to what else supports the historical revision so that this thesis work providing the foundational research for text messaging can be reflected accurately.

Thank you.
