Hello

Hi Discospinster, Thanks For Deleting test page of Raufrana81, i was adding comment on talk page and accidentally published on page. Thanks. --Jay (Lets Talk) 15:49, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Junk code

As seen here, it reappears whenever someone edits with the visual editor. I believe it is a known bug. If you're going to remove it every time it will be a never ending job until the bug is fixed, at which time i expect someone else will get a bot to remove it. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 16:24, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

OK that explains it. ... discospinster talk 16:25, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
It is annoying but i hold out hope that it will be fixed soon. Thanks Jenova20 (email) 16:30, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Questions

When we see a user making edits like these, what should we as normal users do? WP:NPA seems to only apply to personal attack, not general hate speech or racism. If we see someone engaging in general racist, sexist, etc. speech, what should we do? Sorry to bother you with questions, just curious. EvergreenFir (talk) 20:34, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

If it's really bad or obvious then you can put a 4th level warning or 4im ("only warning") on their talk page (see WP:WARN for relevant templates). Then if they continue you can place a notice at WP:AIV to let an administrator know that a user is engaging in disruptive behaviour. Hopefully at that point an admin will block the user. ... discospinster talk 20:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. I am still learning when to use which warn templates. Is there a specific Wiki policy against general use of pejoratives and slurs? EvergreenFir (talk) 20:41, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
The general vandalism warning would be appropriate: see Template:Uw-vandalism4im. Or the harassment warning: see Template:Uw-harass4im. ... discospinster talk 20:46, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! EvergreenFir (talk) 20:47, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don;t think that edit on Gordon Ramsay was a test, rather the continuation of a recent trend of disruptive edits, probably all against consensus... – Connormah (talk) 01:00, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, but I figured a mild warning might do the trick. ... discospinster talk 01:04, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
You'd think that the hidden text and reverts would have already done something... – Connormah (talk) 01:05, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I recently edited Gordon Ramsay's Wikipedia page as it says he is Scottish, now the reason why I chose to edit was because he was born in Scotland, yet he moved to England at the age of five years old. Therefore I believe he should be classed as British rather than just Scottish as his childhood was in both England and Scotland. Also he has appeared in many and had many of his own British shows, therefore I believe he should be classed as British rather than Scottish alone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Owenfighter1000 (talkcontribs) 01:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

The note in the article indicates that there is consensus to refer to him as "Scottish". If that is to be changed there would have to be a discussion on the talk page first. ... discospinster talk 01:11, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Lee Camp Signs For West Brom

Hi There

I like ammending them to be correct but how do you put a source in and what do you mean by this? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11698/8902894 - Is this what you mean? I once ammended Dorus De Vries's article from WOlves to Nottingham Forest and then it got changed back only to be changed to what i had set it as pointless.

Anyways if you could teach me into how i can be granted permission to edit the source then that would be extremely helpful

Thanks

From Stephen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.23.38.110 (talk) 15:12, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

The source only says that West Brom are set to sign him, not that they have. To add references you would put the link in between the tags <ref></ref>, next to the sentence it is referring to. So it would look like this: <ref>http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11698/8902894</ref>. ... discospinster talk 15:15, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Joel Campbell

Hello,

You removed inoffensive text that I added to the Joel Campbell page. I replaced it because your reasoning ("probably not best known for that") is fairly far-fetched. It's hard to imagine ANYTHING else that this young footballer is better known for than the viral video currently circling the world. Curious as to your thought process on this. Or perhaps you're Costa Rican?

Thank you,

Leadvillian — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leadvillian (talkcontribs) 17:03, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

It is far-fetched to claim that someone is best known for something that has just happened. Using that phrasing and placing it in the lead paragraph is pretty much textbook WP:UNDUE. If it's notable enough to be mentioned it would probably go somewhere else in the article, but he is known as being a football player primarily. ... discospinster talk 17:06, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, you and I have each blocked this user (most recently yourself) but they have at last made an unblock request that seems to get the point. As it's your block, do you want to take a look at it? But I leave it up to you. Best wishes, Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 16:50, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Blind Pilot edit

Hello,

I did in fact make an edit to the Blind Pilot article, and your subjective view of my edit was that it was my personal opinion. However, as a practicing musician, I am quite familiar with the musical concept I expounded on (that Blind Pilot has no riffs in their music), and I cited the article that explains what a "riff" is. Wheel Covers

I added http://wheelcovers.com/wheel-covers-or-hubcaps/ to reference on hubcap because although Wikipedia knows and has a page for Twerking and another pure stupidity and nonsense it still doesn't know what a wheel cover is despite its existence since practically the birth of the wheel. Rather than give Wheel Cover its own page it simply groups it together with other almost similar terms. It would be like giving Baseball its own page and then rather than giving basketball a page it simple redirected to baseball because it shares the same shape. This page at least tries to inform its visitors the difference between the two and does so from the mouth of a business that has specialized in wheel covers for nearly 40 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.9.144.179 (talk) 15:16, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Yugoslavians

I realize you need to revert back and appreciate your humourous response.

That said, I sincerely believe many of the lobbyists for certain former Yugoslavians who have suddenly become suddenly turned into "descendents of ancient macedonians" are rabidly racist towards Greeks. (effectively now claiming to be the "real" greeks under the conceptual radar of the patronizing bigots that ignored Greek concerns 20 years ago) Apparently it is "human rights' to attempt to ethnically delete Greeks by usurping our very identity.

To get perhaps a small feel - imagine if part of the former Yugoslavia had renamed themselves "ethnic Romans" and suggested Italians were persecuting "ethnic Romans" in Rome. Or say France had a civil war and called themselves "ethnic English" and claimed their language was "English". Or say part of Poland renamed themselves "ethnic Bavarians" while claimed that modern Germans were occupying Poland. Rather curious how many pretend not to notice this identity quick change.

Whether it's true or not doesn't excuse changing an encyclopedia article to characterize the subject as a "bigot". ... discospinster talk 21:04, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi

I got a message from you saying I vandalized the US Government shutdown page. I never even read that page, let alone edited it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.14.56.128 (talk) 21:48, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

That's because another user on the IP address had vandalized it earlier. You just happened to be using that IP address now. ... discospinster talk 23:09, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

User:Chuy33

Hello, ... discospinster,
This user continues to add fluff content and revert your edits on Richard Grieco, of all articles. It must be a fan or PR rep. But what irritates me is that they don't include any Edit Summaries explaining their edits. I hope it doesn't evolve into an edit war. Liz Read! Talk! 00:54, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

These are published articles of Richards current work. One of which is a top art magazine. In the future please leave Richard's art information alone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chuy33 (talkcontribs) 15:33, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

Could you please explain me about the removal of text from Bioreactor page?

Hello,

I would like to know the reason for removing the texts from the page Bioreactor. Could you please help me to know about it? Because, it was about the new developments and improvements in that field of study which the user should know. It was more of a technical information about the bioreactor design. Moreover, the information present on the page now itself have faults and irrelevant information here and there. The text that was added by me would, for sure, give a clear idea about the present problems and solutions in the design of a bioreactor.

Is the text removal related with the references? Then, it is possible to add more research papers on this context.

Thank you for your help.

(talk page stalker) One reason is none of your claims are cited. Mlpearc (powwow) 16:07, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
That's probably it. I wouldn't really know as I was not the one to remove the text. Perhaps User:The Banner would be a better person to ask about it. ... discospinster talk 16:14, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
The reason is stated in the edit summary, as you can see here: Removed unsourced edit. Second reason was that you did introduce a lot of links to disambiguation pages which is very undesirable. (And the reason why I found the article) The Banner talk 20:41, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Forced claim of work by Steve Mann

This is regarding the false selfclaim of work on SixthSense by Steve Mann. The two projects are unrelated and Dr. Mann keep claiming editing the wiki pages. Dr. Pattie Maes of MIT already have explained and stated that there is no relation of these two projects. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.166.156.193 (talk) 20:42, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

The best place to take this up would be at Talk:SixthSense. So far there is no independent reliable source that verifies that Mistry was the one who originated it. I have re-worded it in a way that I believe is a compromise. ... discospinster talk 20:49, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

SixthSense

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:SixthSense

All the records on talk shows that Mistry is the original inventor. Mann's homepage or wiki has no mention on this. What should be the next steps here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.166.156.193 (talk) 20:55, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Since Steve Mann apparently came up with an earlier version by another name, there is no harm in mentioning that in the article. ... discospinster talk 20:57, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

SixthSense started as the headmounted projector camera setup. There is nothing to do with Steve Mann's Telepointer. Telepointer contains a laser beam - a single dot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.166.156.193 (talk) 21:00, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Mann's device combined a laser-based projector + camera, and the laser projector did vector graphics (text, symbols, patterns, etc.) rather than raster graphics because that gave infinite depth of focus (being able to project patterns onto 3D objects not just flat screens). Mann's projector was called an "aremac" (camera spelled backwards) and some versions were headworn and some were neckworn. Pranav Mistry never called his Sixth Sense. He called it WUW (Wear U World).

The origin of the "Sixth Sense" metaphor for the digital layer of wearable computing appears to also originate from Mann: prove I had coined the term "... Sixth Sense" to describe it, also sometime before 2001; See "Cyborg: Digital Destiny and Human Possibility in the Age of the Wearable Computer", Steve Mann with Hal Niedzviecki, ISBN 0385658257 (Hardcover), Random House Inc, 304 pages, 2001, and "An Anatomy of the New Bionic Senses" [Hardcover], by James Geary, 2002, 214pp — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.230.233.63 (talk) 16:31, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
