Dab pages

Speedy deletion is for "non-controversial" deletions, and it's unlikely that a dab page like this will be a non-controversial deletion, as it's clearly the result of careful work disentangling various people of the same or similar names, even though it was malformed in not having a bluelink on each line along with the redlink. In this case, after research, I've turned it into a redirect to a related dab page - full details here.

In short, please be very cautious about asserting deletion of a dab page to be "non-controversial" and thus speediable. If you really feel it should be removed from the encyclopedia, take it to AfD rather than risk it disappearing while the editor who created it has their back turned for a few hours, before they can salvage their work. The occasional unnecessary dab, not promotional of any COI cause, does no harm to the encyclopedia. PamD 09:09, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

The criteria I used for the CSD, {{db-disambig}} is specifically for disambiguation pages with no extant articles (i.e. articles that don't exist). Given that there is a particular template for that sort of thing, and the page I tagged fit the criteria unambiguously, and furthermore there were no substantive pages linking to it, there was no reason to consider it controversial such that it would need to be discussed in AfD. There was also no indication that anyone had attempted to create articles for the entries on the page. The relevant criteria do not specify that pages so tagged must be promotional or COI, or "harmful" to the encyclopedia. ... discospinster talk 20:55, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
As you agree that the article is not harmful to the encyclopedia, why do you want it to be Speedily Deleted? How does that improve the encyclopedia? I assert that a dab page like this is useful in showing which redlinks are already established for a name, and that deleting such a page is controversial. The definition of category G6 is "Uncontroversial maintenance, such as ... deleting unnecessary disambiguation pages...". When an editor has put effort into disentangling two or more redlinked names, the resulting dab page is not unnecessary but is a necessary record of the situation to avoid future editors getting their links wrong. Please do not use CSD for a page like this in future. PamD 23:52, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
If that is the case, then I would suggest that you start a discussion on the WP:CSD talk page to preserve disambiguation pages that only contain redlinks, because currently it is a valid reason for speedy deletion: "This template may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title" ({{db-disambig}}). ... discospinster talk 01:53, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Discospinster, I was in the process of removing the G7 tag from this article as there were other contributors (mainly one IP that I saw, and another editor modifying categories). Thanks. I did a bit of research and cannot find any reliable sources to back up the fact that such a person even existed. I've gone ahead and PROD'd the article for now. Legoktm (talk) 04:47, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

Bakers union

Clearly you do not know what constitutes opinion and fact. I have left simply neutral facts on the bakers union page. Period! There is no opinion or negative "vandalism". The only thing I may be guilty of is re-phrasing information that already exists on the page. If you are unable to remain neutral yourself then that is another story. You can erase it all you want but the facts in the matter will still remain.

If the information already exists on the page, then there is no need to rephrase it. "The liquidation resulted in the loss of 18,500 jobs and subsequently ended an American tradition loved by many. If the union had accepted the offer by Hostess then 18,500 people would still be employed and an American company would still exist, including the jobs of approximately 6,500 BCTGM members" is not a neutral description of the situation. ... discospinster talk 04:50, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

I keep removing poorly sourced information from the Simona Williams article and you keep undoing my changes. I would imagine it is because they keep getting flagged as possible vandalism. There is nothing unclear about that, the company exists as a legal registered name in scandinavia. However the idea that the term is related to movable parts in an engine is completely internally jargon from another company so i figured it was not relevant. Mandolinquents

Hello,

On 19th January 2009 you deleted an entry: Mandolinquents.

There are two musical groups (to our knowledge) called Mandolinquents. One is a group based in Vermont, USA.

The other is UK based led by leading English mandolinist Simon Mayor (six solo albums, four instructional books, two instructional DVDs, performing and teaching credits worldwide, BBC radio and TV presenter) and also contains classical guitarist Gerald Garcia (ten solo albums on Naxos, sometime partner of John Williams (guitarist)), and Hilary James (five solo vocal albums, BBC radio and TV presenter) and Richard Collins (3 times UK banjo champion, actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company)

If it was the latter you deleted, would you be kind enough to reinstate so that we may check, update and/or edit? If the former, please let me know anyway so a Wikipedia entry may be started for the UK based Mandolinquents

Here are some URLs that will be of interest:

Hi,

I am a complete newb to adding/editing information on wikipedia. I was attempting to remove information pertaining to a photograph of John Buchanan. This was at the request of John Buchanan himself. The information associated with the photo is incorrect and he would like that information to be removed from the site. I'm sorry for asking what is likely a dumb question, but other than performing the edit as I attempted to do several times, how could one go about removing/editing information on here. Mr. Buchanan is 81 years old, and quite intelligent, however he is not an avid user of computers/technology. As a result I was attempting to help him out by removing/correcting some information that is not accurate. Apparently, I am not up to the task either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am sorry for any problems I may have caused. Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions or concerns. My email is [redacted].

Deletions

Yes I found that page as well and was going to post the link here, but you beat me to it. I have edited the metadata to reflect the actual source of the image. I am not sure if this violates any copyright issues. Also, it looks like there is a licensing tab. I may be misunderstanding what it signifies, but it appears that someone has given permission to license or distribute this image. I did not issue this permission, nor do I have permission or authority to do so. This license to distribute should be removed as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.0.236.105 (talk) 03:45, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

The issue here is not so much what the metadata says, but rather whether permission has been given to use the image in Wikipedia. I doubt that Michael Bedford has given permission, much less released it into the public domain, in fact he probably doesn't even know it's here! ... discospinster talk 04:00, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Motorama

Not sure why the Motorama article has been deleted, as I can't see the old article. But I'd like to make a new one although I don't see how it works to start an entire article from scratch.

They are a famous rockgroup from Russia, who played all over Europe at quite big venues (in Netherlands, where I live, they played at the Paradiso in Amsterdam)

They also had loads of press coverages, so I don't see how the first article was deleted for them not being famous enough? There are much more obscure artists who do have pages on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.85.85.162 (talk) 20:30, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for the lateness of my reply. The article was deleted because it didn't indicate anything that would make it notable by Wikipedia's criteria. The Baboon Waster. Why not a speedy deletion instead?

I see that you've proposed a deletion of the The Baboon Waster article. Why? It qualifies for several criteria for speedy deletion: G1, G3, and arguably G4 (The Baboon Waster was made as a kind or replacement, due to Baboon waster's deletion) and maybe A7. Now, as you probably don't have access to the members only, off topic chat section of the Schola Gladiatoria forum (that is, the baboon wasters pub), you won't be able to view the thread where these articles are discussed there, so your evidence is a little limited, but I'd say that at least G1, if nothing else, is quite clear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZarlanTheGreen (talkcontribs) 03:54, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

It wasn't strictly patent nonsense or incomprehensible (G1), I wasn't sure if it was specifically a hoax (G3), and G4 is limited to articles that were deleted after an AfD discussion, not for those previously speedy deleted. So I thought that a proposed deletion was the way to go. ... discospinster talk 04:28, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

DiscoSpinster, Thank you for the encouragement! It seems that I have clearly crossed the line. It was intended as a small prank, not an act of vandalism. Mea culpa! Regards, Ulrich von Lichtenstein (talk) 20:27, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Asko/Askos/ASKO dab pages

Hi Discospinster, first of all thank you very much for helping to move these pages to the correct title.

There's one thing I wanted to ask you, though: you also changed all the links in the See also sections, by removing the " (disambiguation)" bit. I am pretty sure that Wikipedia conventions say that these links to other dab pages in the see also sections of dab pages should include the " (disambiguation)" bit, to make it clear that these links to dab pages are actually intended (as you know, unintended links to dab pages need to be fixed) so this convention is in place to make it clear that these links are actually intentional. I just wanted to check with you before reverting your changes. Please let me know your opinion. Cheers, Azylber (talk) 17:49, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

I just investigated and you are right. Thanks for letting me know. ... discospinster talk 17:53, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
You have already helped me 4 times. The least I can do is try to be nice :) Happy editing! Azylber (talk) 18:44, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Bossington House

Please can you exactly explain why you have delted my page. I have spoken to mug solicitor and he has advised me that no advertising was used on the page. All I did was outline what the family has and their house. There is a lot of things like this on wiki and there is proper promotion on those pages. It might not have seemed like there was a lot on that page but I was just starting to find my feet on Wikipedia and you had to go and delete it. It took me a really long time. You could have messages me first. That's really not very kind of you. I had noticed that 2 other people had appealed the speedy deletion. It's people like you that discourage users. I would appreciate a response or reinstation of my page please — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theinfoguy2013 (talkcontribs) 20:34, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Flint Mountain F.C. Deletion

Hello,

I am writing to contest the deletion of the page Flint Mountain F.C. on the reason that it did not state the significance of the club having its own page. I think this is incorrect as the club is a legitimate club that plays in a Football Association of Wales competition within the Welsh league football pyramid, and competes in other FAW competitions. Although it is an amateur club that has only been running for a couple of years, it has competed in FAW organised competitions that acceptable to have pages on here, and it also has it's own website for people to see the progress of the club. Therefore I would like for the page to be brought back.

Thank you Clintoff (talk) 13:57, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

It's important that the article indicate how the club is notable by Wikipedia's criteria. See WP:Notability for more information. There should be significant coverage of the club in multiple, independent reliable sources (over and above routine coverage such as what would be expected in the local newspaper). I can recover the article and place it in your user space so that you can work on it. ... discospinster talk 03:24, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 23

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Freddy Elbaiady, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Queen Elizabeth Hospital (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Proxmox_Virtual_Environment should not be deleted

I was responding to the deletion notice on the talk page but the Proxmox_Virtual_Environment was deleted before I was able to submit.

This software does meet the notability guidelines for software.

Wikipedia:NSOFTWARE states that if the software is discussed as significant in its field then it should be included. Another criteria for inclusion are third party reviews.

Links to numerous reviews:
https://www.linux-answered.com/2012/11/11/review-proxmox/

http://www.geeklk.com/2011/05/enterprise-ready-open-source-virtualization-proxmox-ve/

Some of those reviews compare Proxmox VE to other software like ESXi that is included in Wikipedia.

Proxmox is mentioned in numerous books that can easily be found using a google book search:
