Pan American World Airways

I have attempted a rewrite of the paragraph as to not sound too over-the-top (Wikipedia articles must have a neutral tone when describing things). The reason for the neutral tone is because some topics covered in Wikipedia are controversial (try reading the article on George W. Bush where supporters and detractors (it seems more of the latter) are attempting to push their views on the article).

Please take a look at the following rewrite and tell me what you think of it (the notation of "citations needed" indicate the need for footnotes. Though one might know these passages as facts, someone who doesn't know about Pan Am would take these sentences as someone else's attempt at boosterism (e.g. advertising)).

At its height during the early 1970s, Pan Am was known as the "World's Most Experienced Airline." It was highly regarded for its state-of-the-art aircraft and the destinations it served. The airline was also respected for the experience and professionalism of its crews and cabin staff as well as for its onboard service. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis preferred to fly First Class on Pan Am even though her Greek husband owned Olympic Airlines.

Since you have added the passage in the first place, I suggest you reinsert it with the suggested corrections (toning down the language, footnotes). I agree that Pan Am was once a very respected airline. However, one cannot assume that someone else will know this fact (talk to someone in their 20s or younger today about Pan Am and its full personalized service in all classes, and they might think you're crazy with today's domestic airline service), and with the open nature of Wikipedia unsourced "facts" must be looked at with greater scrutiny.

I should note that the reason for my "pickiness" with additions to this article is that it is a "featured article" (the best of the best that Wikipedia has to offer. There is much talk about the 1000th such article recently. In fact, Pan Am was even on the front page late last year). Nevertheless, without proper maintenance such articles can degenerate into a mess and lose their featured status, which is something I wish to avoid. Pentawing^Talk 03:00, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
