Your userpage edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you have moved your userpage out of place. Although it's reasonable for you to have a page with some information about yourself, the only proper place for this is at your userpage. Please note that this page should not be moved. If you want a different username, feel free to request it at this page; moving your userpage doesn't change your account name. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:41, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion declined: Joseph T. Flanigan edit

Hello DeVonne, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Joseph T. Flanigan, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: being a member of a notable parliament indicates importance. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. SoWhy 19:56, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I did a Google search and came up with nothing on who this person is, the only source I found came back to this page. When I come across a page with no citation, found nothing when searching for said person, what is the correct action to take? Do we just leave them with the no citation tag? I'm going to make sure to re-read the guidelines several more times. Thank you DeVonne (talk) 02:40, 7 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

[WP:A7|]] is a speedy deletion criterion that has been created to handle pages that are uncontroversial, pages whose deletion no one would ever think of second-guessing (Facebook bios, YouTube bands, small corner shops etc.). That means, it only applies to pages where there is no reason whatsoever to assume that this page could belong here. When someone is elected as a member of a notable parliament, chances are high that there is coverage of them somewhere, which is why they are ineligible for A7 speedy deletion. And if the subject has lived and died before the internet age, it's likely that such coverage is not easy to google, so it's not up to a single admin to decide. If you check Google Books you will find some hits for example. Also, in this case, consensus to keep this page can be assumed per WP:SILENCE since it existed for 12 years. If you still cannot find any coverage after following the steps at WP:BEFORE, consider whether to merge or redirect it to a list of members of this parliament. PS: With 5000+ pages on my Watchlist, I might not see your response, but you can use {{ping|SoWhy}} to send a notification and I'll see your reply. Regards SoWhy 14:04, 7 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, that helped clear a lot up for me. I apologize if I seemed impatient about your response, I had not known about "pinging" yet and saw if I left a message on your talk page that you would get back with me. Thanks again for your time and response, it is highly appreciated as I try to learn how to be an editor. DeVonne (talk)

Again, no problem. Once you have edited a while, your watchlist tends to get crowded, so it's hard to see everything, which is why pinging is so useful. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me at any time. I am always happy to help. Regards SoWhy 19:48, 7 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

DAB pages may have red links. Please read WP:DAB and WP:MOSDAB carefully, if you are going to edit these pages. Staszek Lem (talk) 22:50, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Also, red links are allowed in wikipedia in other places. Please don't run around and delete them until you become more experienced in wikipedia editing. Staszek Lem (talk) 22:52, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I'll more carefully make editing decisions, and when in doubt I'll ask for help. DeVonne (talk) 02:41, 7 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
