Speedy deletion nomination of International Buster Keaton Society edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on International Buster Keaton Society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. QVVERTYVS (hm?) 16:59, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of International Buster Keaton Society edit

The article International Buster Keaton Society has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No independent references, no evidence of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. International Buster Keaton Society edit

Hi David, thanks for message. You can sign your comments automatically using four tildes ~~~~. Please add your messages to the bottom of the talk page, or they may be overlooked. The problems are:

  • it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines.
  • I couldn't even see any claim to notability. For all we are told, it could be ten people meeting in a pub. All we get is mission statements
  • it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: The Damfinos strive to do all of the above with a sense of humor that includes an ongoing awareness of the surreal and absurd, and the joy with which Keaton made his films... many individuals from the television and film industry... those who simply admire the magic
  • You should have just one external link to your official site, not social media etc.

I didn't delete outright because it's possible that your organisation may be able to show sufficient notability, and it wasn't too promotional in tone. Basically, you need to give us some facts referenced to good third-party sources, rather than vague mission statements and unsupported claims. Cheers Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:35, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've now noticed that at 17:10, 28 March 2014‎ you removed a tag requesting speedy deletion. You should not remove SD tags yourself. I'll wait for your reply before I decide whether to just delete anyway Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:41, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Which part of the previous sentence did you not understand? You have not added independent references, explained why you are notable, sorted out the external links or added any factual content. It's obviously not worth putting an improvement notice on this when you are just going to remove it despite being asked not to. I'll delete outright instead. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:40, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
OK, I've had a rethink, and restored the page here so you can work on it away from the heat of article space. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:00, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I made these changes to the draft, mainly MoS, removing non-existent categories and templates etc. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:07, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
If you intended to use TCM as a reference, rather than an EL, format it as <ref>[url description]</ref> and place it in the text after the fact that it is supporting and immediately after punctuation. A {{reflist}}, which I've already added, will display the list of references. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:07, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

They're not appropriate for Keaton's individual films. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:52, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

If we created individual pages for each of the features, could we link from each corresponding Wiki page? DavidbpearsonDavidbpearson (talk) 02:37, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
