Template:WaterlooRegion edit

Thanks for implementing this... I'd always intended to but somehow never got around to it! Radagast July 4, 2005 21:37 (UTC)

You're welcome. :) I was doing my usual cleanup of a couple of those articles, so I thought I might as well centralise the code into a template while I was at it. David Arthur July 4, 2005 21:40 (UTC)

Incidentally, great work on Ottawa O-Train in the past while, it's moved forward incredibly. I'll be in Ottawa at the end of the month and will probably providing lots of content for various articles, as well. Keep it up! :) Radagast 15:50, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

Just got this article together this morning; I'd appreciate any comments, edits or additions you could provide! Radagast 14:01, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

Looks good. I don't have much factual knowledge about the building, but I've copyedited the article slightly. The only other thought I had is that it seems to me that it would be more appropriate for the article to start with a description and picture of the current building, and then describe the past buildings and the architectural competitions in a separate history section. Stations edit

However, there are problems - what if I want to write an article about the former Canada Southern Railway station in Niagara Falls? I can't use that naming format, while Niagara Falls (Canada Southern Railway station) works perfectly. As for the province not being in there, that could be added in. That way also makes the Pipe trick available. --SPUI (talk) 21:10, 2 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Very nice! Well done. Radagast 19:23, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

WWW edit

Thanks David for adding the "www." to the articles. I originally had the template with the www prefix, only due to constraints that I've now resolved, removed it. :)

WWW edit

Could you hold fire a sec please? I can sort things out because there's a template issue that's causing things to look a bit crap.

Thanks anyway

Samluke777 22:41, 6 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

The template was causing some long urls to shift the "(s)" on "Region" to the next line.

I'm on the fix at the moment!

Kitchener train station edit

"Grand River Transit have proposed relocating VIA to their bus station on Charles Street in downtown Kitchener".

Is this actually how the current proposal is set? If I recall, GRT wanted to relocate the bus station to King and Victoria at the old Epton site, so it would be by the tracks and VIA could just move a couple blocks south. These plans changed as the light-rail proposal evolved, and I believe VIA-colocation plans were dropped.

Bringing VIA tracks east to the Charles terminal at Gaukel would be an odd proposal, to say the least. Do you have this documented anywhere? Radagast 17:12, September 7, 2005 (UTC)

OK, fair enough. I guess the next step would be to get hold of someone in the planning area and see what they actually intend to do with this. I work pretty close to the Region HQ, I might be able to stop by one day and bend a few ears. Radagast 17:53, September 7, 2005 (UTC)

Toronto subway map edit

Looks great!

One more service to consider listing - Viva York's Blue, Green and Orange lines will be servicing different TTC stations by Oct 16. Would there be room to mark those interchanges? Just a proposal... Radagast 15:25, 7 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey David.... I love the VIVA map. Can I ask you which software do you use to create it?

The Viva map is straight Photoshop, though I’ve used Inkscape for most of my newer ones. David Arthur 20:38, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tramlink map edit

Image:TramlinkMap.svg contains two logos (British rail's and London Underground's) which are not free, and so should not be used in your image. I understand it is difficult to find a good free alternative, but it would be better. Ed g2s 16:28, 14 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Great western edit

I found a source for the single brand theory, though it wasn't me who edited -

"The creation of a new First Great Western brand for the franchise, incorporating the existing high speed intercity services, First Great Western Link's suburban services out of London Paddington and regional services currently operated by Wessex Trains."

from http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/franchise/en/LatestNews.php

and "The new franchise merges three companies into one and the name of the new company will be ‘First Great Western’.

We have developed a modern and dynamic new look for the First Great Western brand to refresh, reinvigorate and broaden the appeal of rail travel throughout the region"

from http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/franchise/en/AdynamicNewBrand.php

Also amending 'waves' to 'dynamic lines' for the new livery suggests someone close to First Group, 'dynamic lines' sounds too corperate for a layman.

Finaly firstgreatwesternlocal.co.uk appears to be cybersquattted with no alternatives registered by anyone - including First

Why on earth did you put a {{fact}} re the statement that there can never be a king mother? It is like putting a {{fact}} note after a statement that Pope Benedict is male or that women don't have penises. A King Mother, as is patently clear, would be a biological impossibility. A king reigns as a regnant not a consort. He biologically cannot be a mother. Queen Mother means a former queen consort, still alive, who is the mother of the new sovereign. Are we Agreed? edit

Was there an agreement reached on the {{British TOCs}} template that I never heard about? It seemed to me that, given the discussion had gone quiet, everybody seemed ok with the idea of leaving NIR and Enterprise there, but with the {{Irish train operators}} left on those pages. If it's the case that this was agreed unacceptable then fair enough. However, if this isn't the case, then it seems that someone has reached an agreement on their own and proceeded to alter the British template YET AGAIN without consulting anyone. I changed the link for Hudson's Bay Company because the character just before the apostrophe is unrecognized Unicode on my browser. Shows up as the rhombus with a question mark inside it. Carson 21:28, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:DSB-IC4-train.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:DSB-IC4-train.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Joondalup railway line, Perth edit

Nice catch on Butler and Jindalee, that totally slipped under my radar. Off to add that information into the Northern Suburbs Transit System article now. Cheers, Thewinchester (talk) 18:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently you carried out a copy and paste page move from Transperth Second Generation A-series train. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Thewinchester (talk) 18:49, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I understand that you were obviously trying to do the right thing, but in this case I would have advised against attempting to do the merge yourself solely on the basis of the need for a history merge due to multiple editors contributing to the article. The best way to handle these kind of moves is through the Cut and paste move repair holding pen. I've listed in using the appropriate places, and the admin staff will get to it in due course to make sure it's done properly. The big issue here is about acknowledging contributions in accordance with the GFDL, and there was a big blow-up on this problem played out at WP:BJAODN in the last few months which was fully written up on WP:SIGNPOST. With articles containing only you're own text, a c&p is fine to do, but where others are involved there contribs need to be acknowledged, so it's best left to the admins to take the appropriate action. Cheers, Thewinchester (talk) 18:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Belleville railway station edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Belleville railway station, by 129.97.134.15 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Belleville railway station seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Belleville railway station, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 23:37, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:BombardierJetTrainLocomotiv.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BombardierJetTrainLocomotiv.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:49, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

VIVA System map update edit

Hello David - can I ask that you update the VIVA system map for a couple of recent changes?

  • eliminate the light purple section in the west between Martin Grove and York U. The powers that be have curtailed that part of the service.
  • They have also modified the Green line to run at peak hours only, so that line should be shaded similar to the way that you display the Pink line.

Thanks in advance!..........PKT 13:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
