Deletions

Schools aren't notability, with a few exception most states/counties/cities could just have an article on education. i'm planning to recommend every school on wiki for deletion, unless independently notability. take columbine high, there is an article on the massacre why does the school did one? as a school its not of importance to anyone outside Littleton. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.26.106.254 (talkcontribs).

Thanks for watching my back and reverting the rather strange addition. It's much appreciated! LittleOldMe 10:33, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Naples

Thanks for reverting and fixing the Naples page. It's a pain, but I guess it's something we have to put up with. I see you play the trombone. So do I. I put up some stuff on Robert Marsteller and Eje Thelin some months ago. Anyway, cheers from Naples. Jeffmatt 16:45, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Naples & Trombone

Yes, I'm interested when I have the time. The page looks pretty good, as you say. The lists are kind of loused up, though. List_of_classical_trombonists has Tommy Dorsey in it, for example. Those things are easily fixable with a little effort. Jeffmatt 07:14, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Howdy

Hey Dar-Ape, I just noticed you dropped me a review - how thoughtful of you! Yeah, I'm terribly lazy with edit summaries, even though I think I leave one for every edit I make. I guess that's what happens when you're trying to do RCP too quickly. It's a good point, I honestly didn't realise it was a problem, so I'll try my best to work on it. Thanks again, and thanks also for the vote of encouragement :) Cheers, riana_dzasta 03:49, 5 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image

Hello Jrockley! This is a bit of a belated request, but I haven't been on for the last couple of days. Thank you for uploading a new version of Image:Edit Summary-2.png with a cleartype enabled screenshot. However, I am concerned that this image is a little too wide to fit on pages such as Help:Edit summary, and (at least on my browser) shrinking the image makes the text small, fuzzy, and difficult to read. Would you mind editing the image to make the horizontal bar not quite as long in the horizontal direction? I would do it myself but it would not be cleartype. Thank you in advance for your help with this, Dar-Ape 18:46, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

About my cactus fact

Well, I did learn in third grade that a saguaro cactus's roots do spread out to 28 feet. I forgot that this only applies for the saguaro. I did some reasearch outside wiki and found this [www.desertusa.com/july96/du_saguaro.html] link that talks about the saguaro cactus. It said that a saguaro's roots can stretch out to the saguar's height.

Health Wiki Research

A colleague and I are conducting a study on health wikis. We are looking at how wikis co-construct health information and create communities. We noticed that you are a frequent contributor to Wikipedia on health topics.

Please consider taking our survey here.

This research will help wikipedia and other wikis understand how health information is co-created and used.

We are from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The project was approved by our university research committee and members of the Wikipedia Foundation.

Dar-Ape I have praised you at your Editor review, and so have others. You are a well known editor who branches out everywhere over wikipedia. Gee, thanks for pointing that out, Dar-Ape. I didn't even take the time to see the template's page and look for notes, regarding its use. So, thanks. Regarding the HowtoTalk template

Dar-Ape, if you feel that the subject template has been used where it may be inappropriate, feel free to delete it. My feelings won't be hurt.

However, I would like to explain that my thinking is that: it is easier to start a discussion page off on the right foot than it is to reform it after the page has become a jumbled mess. I joined Wikipedia in Jan. 2006 and I remember how badly I used discussion pages because no one bothered to instruct me on the correct methods.

Once again, please feel free to delete it where you think it should be deleted. Happy Holidays and regards, - mbeychok 05:40, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

rfa

I had no idea that linking to an rfa from one's userpage was frowned upon. In my experience it has been common practice. Was there a centralized discussion on this somewhere that I missed? If I erred, I'll gladly take the notice down—so far the only user's I've had contact with before who have commented on my rfa have been one's who I've had disagreements with in the past! savid@n 18:56, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you don't mind, then, I think I'm going to leave it. The biggest flaw in rfa's seems to be that people vote without seriously reviewing a user's contributions or history. User's finding themself on my talk page would have at least anecodtal experience dealing with me—either positively or negatively—and thus, I feel, be slightly more qualified to participate. savid@n 19:55, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clay Center High School

I've created one of the pages. The reason for creating them was to keep people not familer with Wikipedia from creating them in the wrong place. Also, the lists are quite useful even without the pages attached. However, in this case, only having two I could see just placing the other one at the top and deleting the main page.--Rayc 05:07, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

All it is is a joke. If you log out and try to edit it works the same as before. The templates that are put up by admins dont block you, its the special button that they have that does it. Re: User talk:207.6.165.93

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with the page Aliyah on Wikipedia! Your test worked, and thank you for reverting or removing it yourself. The best way to do tests in the future would be to use the sandbox. You can look at these pages as well: how to edit a page, the tutorial, and how to write a great article. All of these pages are good places to start. Again, welcome, and I hope that you will like Wikipedia. Dar-Ape 22:40, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was actually removing someone's dumbass valentine from the Aliyah page and I had to blank it temporarily. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.6.165.93 (talkcontribs).
I have replied on user's talk. Dar-Ape

Aliyah

Re: Thanks for the contact! If you compare the version before you edited the article to the current version by you in its history, there are no changes, so I'm not exactly sure what you were trying to remove. (You might find this useful, which shows you how to revert pages without blanking them temporarily.) Cheers, Dar-Ape 23:10, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

It was strange. It said, "Aliyah is the prettiest girl...." on the page, but it didn't have it anywhere in the Edit page so I blanked it and pasted the content back in and it got rid of the thing. Doesn't make any sense to me, but it worked. 207.6.165.93 00:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 13:50, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

Possible small improvement

Hello again, Rich! I noticed that little while ago SmackBot dated a {{mergeinto}} template for December, but the merge tag was actually added in September. I don't know if it is possible for the bot to go through page histories to see when a tag was added, and I also realize that even if this is possible it may be more effort than it's worth. However, I just wanted to make you aware of this in case any improvement can be made. Thanks, Dar-Ape 00:42, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I am aware. I've used a mixture of approaches, in this case, as I recall, deriving the date from the irregular database dumps. Once a backlog is dated, of course, it is then simple to keep up, only mis-dating articles right at the month boundary (which is not a big deal). Rich Farmbrough, 11:58 28 January 2007 (GMT).
Okay. Keep up the great work with your bot, Dar-Ape 02:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
