Gothic Metal List

I've been observing the debate about gothic-doom and gothic metal. I put a suggestion on the list of gothic metal bands to deal with it. Leyasu will probably fight the idea, but as an outside observer I think that it is a fair compromise. Tell me what you think. Association

Dear Danteferno: Hi. I wanted to ask you about a possible Hispanic wikipedians association here on the English wikipedia. The purpose would be to trade assignments with members of other Hispanic countries, so that they would write about a topic pertaining to our country while we write about a topic pertaining to theirs. Like a trade. We would benefit a lot by learning about our history as a whole and having other Latinos learn about our own countries at the same time.

That way also, we would promote unity between our paises hermanos. We could become an example to Hispanics around the world. Unfortunately, some Hispanics do believe we are not brothers, and we can begin with our example to prove them wrong.

What do you think, would you be interested in joining such an association?

• People sometimes let 3RR slide simply because it happens a lot. Arbcom rulings do not happen a lot, and they should be correctly enforced. Nu metal & death metal

The point isn't whether nu-metal has similarities to death metal. The point is that the sentence at no point claims that Megadeth and Metallica are death metal. Therefore your removal of the genre was unjustified.

It clearly says "thrash bands like Metallica and Megadeth." I really don't care whether nu-metal has anything in common with death metal. Frankly I don't see the connection either. You misinterpreted the sentence and removed the term "death metal" because you thought it was incorrectly categorizing the two bands as said genre when in fact it wasn't.

As this has been discussed already, I'll try to be simple:

• As the link shows, a citation has been made by WesleyDodds.
• Fear Factory are a death metal band often labelled as nu metal, and are a major influence on nu metal. Other death metal bands, such as Sepultura and Slayer, have been cited as influences on nu metal by nu metal bands or musical commentators.
• Static-X are a nu metal band often labelled as death metal.
• Korn cite Cannibal Corpse, a death metal band, as an influence.
• Apart from these links, the sonic similarity between guitar styles (if not musicianship) of nu metal and death metal is very prevalent.

This is not the first time you have tried to remove any mention of "death metal" from the nu metal article, and when one attempt is stopped, you convert to another reason to make the same edit. Your clear bias has no place in the article. --Switch 19:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Considering that one of the reasons I quit the Wikipedia was the stress that moderating this user caused me, I was really surprised he was still around... :\ Well, I am sort of back... and will enforce my admin rights as necessary. I see that it's still the same discussion concerning that "goth-doom" or whatever shit... really, what does that contribute to the articles in question...? But oh well. Whats the prob with the notability? They have released three albums of which two on a larger independent label (Displeased Records) should be sufficent per WP:MUSIC. Also they did small tours and played festivals, including the Doom Shall Rise festival in Germany, and Dutch Doom's day in the Netherlands. Spearhead

If you notice pages that really need semi-protection, you can help me by a) providing diffs and b) listing the pages in one line of text using the following format: 'articlename1', 'articlename2', etc. eg if you felt Iron Maiden, Burzum and cheese needed protection, write 'Iron Maiden', 'Burzum', 'cheese' and drop it on my talk page and I'll check it out. Agreed. They had been on the list around a month which is quite standard. I also added them to VOAbotII's watchlist which may or may not make a difference... I know some feel protection is against the spirit of Wikipedia, but banned users using multiple socks to deliberately skew facts is far worse. I've started blocking Ley-a-like accounts on sight. Long term? Not really sure. You'd have to find someone technical and well-versed in Wiki-law (more than me) with at least admin priveliges, probably checkuser priveliges. Not sure which general helpdesk might be able to help... You can also do whois lookups of IP addresses and contact the sysops at wherever they originate from. Protection

I've blocked a bunch of IP socks and protected Diabolique and Tiamat. Wknight94 seems to think that because there is only one problem editor on these pages and their edits are being reverted on sight (usually by you) there isn't a protection problem.. I think it's a failing of the system that a banned user can use a myriad of anonymous IPs and make life hard for regular editors. Keep me posted. Deizio talk 14:55, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

It is ridiculous to think there isn't a protection problem. The facts are really simple. The user has been banned from editing on wikipedia. Completely and utterly banned. Hence, this user should not be editing any further on wikipedia. It does not matter whether the edits made have any merits or not. It does not matter whether anyone express a problem with the edits being made. All that matters is that a banned user can continue editing a large number of different pages. It makes a mockery of the whole ban in the first place. What's the point of resolving disputes if people are only going to succeed in ignoring the resolution of those disputes? Rock music Wikiproject invitation

Hello WikiProject Metal member.
WikiProject Metal music is important in expanding encyclopedic coverage of the metal. It brings attention to the lesser-known bands, and significantly improves the quality of the famous ones. Five Featured articles and two formers is proof of that.

Master

I guess you know little about death metal to question Master (US)'s notability. It is one of the first death metal bands. They released some 10 albums (plus Speckmann's (=Master) side projects about 15) and went on several tours. But yea the page can use some work and some references Spearhead 22:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

it has nothing to do with WP:CIVIL. A click on their official page could have easily revealed that many of their albums were released in Nuclear Blast (which is easily revealed, had you clicked on their linked album, on the seventh day.... Even ten+ albums by a quite forgettable label would make them notable per WP:BAND. You might to at least some research before you condemn. Spearhead 22:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

AGM/alt metal dispute

You really need to chill out, my friend. No need to be agressive. I'm sorry if my removal offended you. But I didn't meant to attack you. Because I removed one of your edit doesn't mean I attacked you personnaly. So I fail to see what justifies your agressive tone in response. You disagree with my edit? Fine, just restore your edits and let's discuss, until we find an agreement. That's all...No need to be aggressive. that's one of the principles of wikipedia. Besides, ironically, we seem to think about the same concerning the alt bands included in this list...But the thing is we don't have the same solution to handle the situation. Personally I would either delete them, or (as I've done) preserve them temporarilly in the general list(until we find sources legitmate their removal). Why? you consider removing an edit and calling it a POV is an agression? Personnaly I don't. And I wasn't complaining of the fact you did the same. As already mentioned in my previous post, I was complaing of YOUR TONE only ...which I still find agressive and cuting, btw.

I don't think that my attempts to keep objectivity in that article can be regarded as an act of aggression, no matter you might find my edits as injustified(which can possibly be). I didn't revert them just for the sake of attacking you or bothering you or something... I just did it out of concern for objectivity. So no need to overreact, you're not personnaly a target of mine. Don't mistake your person with your edits. Edits can be judged innapropriate but it doesn't mean that the person who made them is personnally put in question or attacked. Here's my point.

Btw,I still think your view is a POV concerning Fantomas. Because Fantomas is widely recognized as an iconic avant-garde metal band. And I have sources about it. I see no "consensus," rather, you seem to have been involved in a long and drawn out argument which yielded no results. I cited an article in the "discussion" but I have no clever way to say on the actual article "Not Metalcore" and tag it with a reference. Oh wow they made the Amazon.com listing for "Top Metalcore Bands"! Holy crap! I had no idea! They're metalcore for sure! Amazon.com is surely the best source for metal/hardcore classifications! There was even an article cited in the above discussion which refers to the Metal Blade press release which mislabeled the band as metalcore. Your citation is an out-of-context comment ABOUT THE DEMO. TBDM

Well then why don't we do that for every page in Wikipedia? Even look at the article for Metallica (featured article). It says they are an American heavy metal band, not an American heavy metal/ thrash metal band. It is already in the genres so it isn't needed. Heavy metal describes what they are as it includes death metal, metalcore, etc. And honestly I don't see how Black Dahlia Murder can be called metalcore anyway because the music is more aggressive than that. cheese (talk) 18:02, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

On the contrary, if material has been published by an independent, third-party source, then it is considered reliable. This applies to Allmusic and the MusicMight content published before it became user-edited. You have no source that fits WP:RS criteria. I'm unsure how exactly my response was "ironic", by the way. These articles are not my "own personal fiefdom" (a comment that leads me to believe that you should read WP:CIVIL as well), but should be sourced to reliable sources, not "webzines" like deathmetal.org. 'Ello again. I just wanted to say that I totall agree with you about the whole Carcass being the first melodeath (yuk, horrible term) band thing. The entire melodic death metal page needs serious work, but I just don't have te time at the minute to hunt down necessary sources. Agathodaimon

The link does indeed state "melodic black metal", but not as a genre (you'll note that MusicMight capitalises their genres, whilst we don't). We have a long-running consenus concerning the non-existence of nonsense genrifications like "melodic black metal", "dark metal", "brutal death metal", "extreme symphonic gothic atmospheric metal", "Norwegian weather forcast metal" and the like. Feel free to replace gothic metal with source; I'll have no objection. Melodic black as a supposed subgenre has no source to support it (hence the AfD result of "delete" as cited above; it's also why we have no "melodic black metal" section in the black metal article). This isn't POV-pushing; Agathodaimon are obviously "melodic" in a stylistic sense, but that alone doesn't justify a separate "subgenre". We had similar issues with "bestial black metal", "raw black metal", "war metal" and the like... they all ended up the same way. This sub-sub-sub-sub-genrification of metal is just unhelpful to an encyclopedic exercise. You need a source to justify the existence of the genre to include it. This is not untrue information. I was there at the time. This is Keith Stewart and I was there and witnessed the events that I wrote about. The citation stating that Kirk Hammett named the band after Leon Uris's novel is false. It was Tom Hunting who came up with the name and none of us had any idea there was already a book and a movie with the same name. We had to go look it up in the dictionary to find out what it meant when we got back to rehearsal. Kirk and I originally formed a band with John Marshall (metal Church) (Formerly John Manners) on rythym guitar and Dan Vandenburg on drums. We played songs that Kirk and I co wrote and had several ideas for names for the band.At the same time Tim Agnello who lived a block away from me, had written several songs and I knew he was interested in joining a band and at the time he was playing in the jazz band at Richmond High School with Tom Hunting who was interested in jamming with us also. Kirk Knew Carlton was available to play bass and we all met and played together at my house for several months before the band fell apart due to personal conflicts. Afterwards, Tim and Carlton formed a band of their own and Kirk and Tom continued with the Exodus name while I grouped up with Fred Cotton and formed Darkness.

I had left the group months before Kirk ever met Paul and joined the group due to personal conflicts with Tim Agnello and Carlton Melson. BTW, I knew Paul very well and am in many photos during that time between the release of the first album and his later dismissal from the band. Paul and I were very good freinds.

Also, Tim Agnello did not join the ministry, he grouped up with Carlton Melson and created a new band and played several shows in the bay area. In fact, they were still together as recently as 1993 although I was told that Tim was fired sometime after that because of his drug addictions.
