Look at the map

Then you'll see what I mean by "barely touches it.

The Southern State barely skirts the border here

— Preceding unsigned comment added by DanTD (talk • contribs) 21:13, August 30, 2015‎

Yes, look at the map! This is an encyclopedia and if we start getting into semantics with what exits and which CDP we will have a mess. The fact remains the relevant roads SERVING the cdp and the town named Bay Shore. The term "barely" is subjective. You do realize that...right?

Do we really need to include such a hair splitting and irrelevant fact in a small hamlet article on Wikipedia?

Think of the length and debate that would ensue! Please let us by rational! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:ce98:1510:4cef:d74c:d98c:4a0e (talk) 21:54, August 30, 2015‎

Your recent edits[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either: 1.Add four tildes ( 2602:306:CE98:1510:5D33:57CE:4DE8:FCB2 (talk) 13:19, 6 September 2015 (UTC) ) at the end of your comment; or 2.With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (Insert-signature.png or Button sig.png) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 13:50, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Omitted roads in many articles.

Just a note to point out that your section on roadways in Bay Shore have omitted some roadways like Sagtikos pkwy, Sunken Meadow, Brook Avenue, Brentwood Road. In addition, adding a section naming the exits off Sunrise Hwy have been overlooked by you.

The roadway section is lacking and sporadic at best. Perhaps, another editor, one more familiar with the roadways should review and edit the section in a more organized and relevant manner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE98:1510:5D33:57CE:4DE8:FCB2 (talk) 13:25, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Sunken Meadow is even further away than the Long Island Expressway, in fact, it doesn't even touch the Expressway let alone Bay Shore. Sagtikos State Parkway doesn't even touch Bay Shore, and the only way you can get to Bay Shore from there is to either take the Southern State to Exit 41S or the Heckscher State to Exit 42S. Brentwood Road isn't even a marked County Route. The same goes for Brook Avenue. Therefor my omission of these roads is perfectly justified, and there's no reason for anybody to bring them back. -------User:DanTD (talk) 13:45, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Well, I do not see Robert Moses Causeway either. Kudos to you for dropping "barely". I guess mother dusted off that dictionary in the basement and you actually used it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE98:1510:5D33:57CE:4DE8:FCB2 (talk) 14:07, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

That's because it's in West Islip, and even when it's down near Montauk Highway, it only skirts WEST Bay Shore. Now what were you saying about "my mother dusting off the dictionary?" ---------User:DanTD (talk) 14:14, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, the old bag wears combat boots douche bag! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE98:1510:5D33:57CE:4DE8:FCB2 (talk) 15:49, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

RMC is the westernmost boundary of West Bay Shore

--Previous unsigned comment by User:2602:306:CE98:1510:5D33:57CE:4DE8:FCB2

Umm, yeah. That was my point. And on the other side is West Islip, New York. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 17:59, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Metro-North Railroad rolling stock

Hi! I was wondering if you'd help me with fixing up the some-what new rolling stock page that I've created. I pretty much just copied, pasted, wrote a few sentences and abandoned it. I am looking to go back and fix it up. Will you help me? RES2773 (talk) 21:38, 8 September 2015 (UTC)RES2773

It could use some history, and I tried to start it. But as I mentioned, I'm going on vacation over the weekend, and I'm trying to prepare for it. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 01:56, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

New 34th Street station

Dan, by any chance, are you stopping by 34th Street – Hudson Yards (IRT Flushing Line) during your vacation? It's a really good photo op. Epic Genius (talk) 22:28, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

I took several of them, but my camera died while I was taking the pictures, so I had to charge it up later on that night. My effort to replace the copyvio-ed pics of New Rochelle really took a toll on it, and there were still sites I've missed. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 20:03, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Two upcoming NRHP noms on Long Island

The State Historic Preservation Board had its quarterly meeting last Thursday, and on their agenda were two new nominations proposed for Nassau County, both on the western side, close to the city line:

  • Franklin Square Bank, 925 Hempstead Turnpike, Franklin Square. Nominated for its association with pioneering banker Arthur T. Roth (I wonder, based on that, if they're thinking of it as a possible NHL down the line). Seems like it would be fairly easy to find and photograph ... it's still used as a branch bank.
  • Rockville Cemetery and Bristol and Mexico Monument, 45 Merrick Road, Lynbrook. Cemetery is important for being burial place of many early local settlers; monuments reflect two different shipwrecks (both of which we could have articles on, actually) a year apart in the 1830s that were instrumental in reforming safety procedures in New York Harbor. Again, looks like they should be easy to find and photograph.

TriMet List of bus routes

Hi DanTD!

I hope you had a great vacation. Although this is not your area, nor mine, I have recently grown an internet crush on Portland, Oregon. Of course, when that happens, I had to take a look at their bus page. I was very surprised to find that they had no list of bus routes! It turns out the separate page was deleted in 2013, because "Wikipedia is not a travel guide." I checked the link, but it doesn't clear anything up. I attempted to recreate the page with a slightly new list design and updated data, but that was deleted as well. I find it amazing that the person challenging the list is not questioning all of the other lists. I would appreciate you voicing your opinion on TriMet's talk page. If you would like to see my updated list, it is in my sandbox. Thanks! RES2773 (talk) 21:04, 24 September 2015 (UTC)RES2773

Disambiguation link notification for September 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kathleen Wilhoite, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page A Sort of Homecoming. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Union Freight Railroad

I'm pretty good at dating old photos from tiny details - I once dated an image by the entry of Alaska into the US from "all 50 states" on a box truck - but I'm no good at old cars. Can you get more accurate dates for these photos? Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:53, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

All these pictures seem to be from the same year, and many of these cars are older. The Plymouth Valiant in two of these pictures is a clear enough indication that it's from the mid-1960's. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 21:02, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
Cheers, thanks! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 14:39, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
You're welcome, but there's something else about this picture here; There's no Plymouth Valiant in this one. There is however, a 1964 Ford Country Squire station wagon up close, a 1963 Chevrolet triple-parked next to the 1957 Oldsmobile on the side, and behind the cab of the New Haven diesel on the passenger side is a mid-1960's Ford Falcon. So it's still from the same period as all the others. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 21:41, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm pretty comfortable putting c. 1964 on the photos, given no post-1964 cars visible. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:30, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Hey Dan, I also proposed renaming a couple of other categories that have the string "Queens, New York" in them. If you want, feel free to comment there. Thanks. Epic Genius (talk) 14:59, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

reformatting

See my reply to your reformatting tragedy. There is software to recover the files. One is CardRecovery. You can download it for free - it will see if it can recover the files, and then you can pay $40 to activate it and get the files back. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 14:40, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

You Wiki'd so hard you broke your wrist? Wow, take it easy and get well soon. Blue Rasberry (talk) 00:29, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
Oh, wow, I wasn't paying attention. Come to think of it, I also wasn't paying attention on 9th Avenue this spring when I tripped and broke my wrist. Wikiing with one hand left me still doing a fair amount of picture sorting; not much word work. Jim.henderson (talk) 18:48, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Well, everything was really fine until September 21st at Garden City (LIRR station). Since then, I've been operating with one hand, and trying to avoid prolonging my injury. There have been a lot more details I've had to put off adding more details to my images and he various articles. As it has turned out, I've been a little more active than I expected to be, but not by much. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 19:00, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
