Montrose's African American population

I was going to ask you why you removed Montrose, Virginia from List of United States cities with a majority African American population since 49.97% rounded up is 50%, but in thinking about it, you're probably correct to do so, since 49.97% isn't a majority. Good catch. Moncrief, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Sports Facilities

Thanks for proof reading my work :) Writing the articles about the Pyramid and Williams-Brice, I was wondering if there was a better way to organize this. Maybe have a overhead article "Athletic Facilities" or "Spectator Sports Facilities" and then split it up in sub categories like "Football", "Baseball", "Soccer".... What do you think? btw, is there a list of Arenas?

Giants Stadium

Dale, thanks for adding the info about the 2003 SuperCoppa Italia to my Giants Stadium rewrite. (I wouldn't have called that a minor edit, though!) I'm sure we've corresponded off the wiki, probably about my ballparks page on the Web (Charlie's Big Baseball Parks Page).

By the way, regarding lists of stadiums, arenas, etc., I've just broken the list of professional stadiums in the US into "major league" and "other" (and added a few stadiums that are on the wiki), as I plan to do a bunch of write-ups on minor league ballparks and the list was starting to get unwieldy. If that wasn't a good idea, feel free to revert.

Nice catches. This section was so lazily and arbitrarily written at first that I ran out of gas without looking up the timing of international games. Poker pages

Thanks for the dab on the Brad Daugherty page. I ended up moving it back and forth because I didn't know pages linked to a non-existant article about him (the basketball player). I reverted your edit to World Series of Poker where you introduced duplicate links to players. I think the players should be linked in the table, but I also think the table should be reformatted and placed higher in the article. I plan on doing this probably tonight, in addition to working on some more of the poker player articles. Right now most of them are short, but I plan on going back and adding a lot more info to some of the more well known ones. CryptoDerk 01:35, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)

Hello Dale, it wasn't deliberate

Tks for fixing my edit to World Series. I made only one amendment, "will begin" to "begin". Nothing else. The "Show preview" did not reveal any other changes but I now know a huge chunk of text was erased as well. I don't know what to think. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}} template (or {{MultiLicensePD}} for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1

I agree to [[Wikipedia:Multi-licensing|multi-license]] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:

University System Naming Conventions

I'm thinking, we need to get a common system for the naming of University campuses. I know you're always catching some of the universities in the college football articles and I can never remember them all because they're all named differently (University of Nebraska-Lincoln - dash, no space, University of Missouri - Columbia - dash with space, University of Texas at Austin - "at", University of California, Berkeley - comma). Do you think we should try standardizing these? (Or, for that matter, should the main articles redirect to the main campus article and then the main article could be moved to University of XXXX system?) Marking edits as minor

Hi Dale. Thank you for adding the info to the Perth article about the new rugby team, I'm sure the Perth rugby fan will be appreciative. ;-) Anyway, I noticed you marked the edit as minor, as well as other similarly sized edits to other articles. Could you please not mark edits of this size as minor? I think most editors understand minor edits to be simple changes such as punctuation or fixing links, not ones which add whole sentences like these. It would just avoid confusion, especially when navigating page histories. - Mark 01:00, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

You should know that Wikipedia has policies against comments such as that used in the edit summary of your 13:37, 30 Dec 2004 edit to Rapping: "rerverted to how to was - fuck that bastard that changed my edit." This is a personal attack because it is in regards to the editor and not the content of the article.

To summarize:

"Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia....Users have been blocked or banned for repeatedly engaging in them. Abusive edit summaries are particularly ill-regarded." from Wikipedia:No personal attacks You may have noticed that your edit was changed by User:P Ingerson (who may be reached at User talk:P Ingerson) because he or she considered it vandalism. I disagree and assume the first edits to be a newbie test. However, I consider your re-addition to be vandalism (Silly vandalism), since you were warned, and have reverted that edit. See Wikipedia:Vandalism and Wikipedia:Three revert rule. Vandalism is another thing you may be banned or blocked from wikipedia from.

I thought I would at least tell you since you're the original author of both. Otherwise I think large parts of them should be rewritten to focus on the actual character the article is talking about, but this would be hard since they're a team and you can't really mention one without the other. We generally preserve the entire page so that, in addition to the link on the article's Talk page, it can get centrally archived. That way, we have at least a slim chance of finding it again if/when we need it. I also took the liberty of converting the paste on the article's talk page into a link to the archive page. Thanks. Virginia Geography

I just wanted to drop a line, since I noticed we contribute to some of the same articles. I enjoy Virginia geography stuff, especially history and extinct localities. I love to see others doing thing such as your addition to the York County article about Poquoson. They must have had a separate school system from York County as early as 1973 when they were still a town, as I delivered a new school bus for them. Many times, efforts on a WP article will lead me off on research tilt. I.E., I have been working on the origin of the name of Bower's Hill. Like many, I thought it originated with the overpass, but I found it on 19th century maps. What in the world could have led to the name "hill". Of course, the Hilltop section of Virginia Beach at 27 feet above sea level was the tallest no building feature until Mount Trashmore. <gr> . Please do not replace links to majors with links to Grand Slam of golf. The individual tournaments are referred to as majors 99%+ of the time. I have written an expanded article about majors, but the Grand Slam of golf article is still there - for the purpose of explaining what the Grand Slam is not to explain what a major is, because it isn't the same thing. In case you haven't checked this page recently, I just reverted possible vandalism by an anonymous user who was going around adding gibberish and the like to a bunch of pages this morning. All the anon. did on the above page was change some numbers and school names. It's possible (though unlikely) that the anon's changes were legitimate, but I reverted them anyway. Yes, I've observed similar problems myself. The problem is, I don't know how to fix many of them - the box *is* set to float, and this conflicts e.g. with tables set to align via HTML (rather than float, via CSS). Great job on the infoboxes. I created the Joe B. and Tubby pages a couple of weeks ago and a glad to see a few people have added to them. Just to clarify your query on One-day internationals, only one match was played in Australia, the second, that was to be played in Kolkata was cancelled due to extreme weather concerns. Three matches were played in New Zealand but these have no offical "List A" status, unlike the game in Australia.

expos/nationals debate

There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.

Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.

Manchester United/History of Manchester United

Hi,

I noticed you'd been working on Man United-related pages and could do with your opinion on something.

The history section was split out of the page last year (I think) but someone then wrote another history section in the main page. Both pages are now well over the recommended maximum size for a Wikipedia article, and it's getting to the stage where I suspect people are editing them without reading them all the way through (which would explain why the Glazer takeover is mentioned twice in Manchester United, in roughly the same amount of detail each time.

So, my idea is to create new pages for different eras in United's history, merge the relevant bits of Alex Ferguson, History of Manchester United and the History section of Manchester United into each new page and put summaries of each new page on Manchester United, with comments asking people not to make the summaries too long. The new articles would have titles like:

• Manchester United pre-1945
• Manchester United 1945-1968
• Manchester United 1968-1986
• Manchester United 1986-present

I think something like this is necessary to keep the pages manageable, but obviously don't want to make such big changes to other people's work without hearing what people think first. Please let me know what you think, at the Manchester United talk page.

Did you read the template that I tagged the images with, or visit copyright page for the Cal. Fish&Game website (the URL's are in my description, and also in the External links section of the Grunion article). ALL text on the Cal. F&G website is PD. If you want to get paranoid about copyright, start looking at some of the images that are getting tagged as "fair use". I think that in way too many cases people knowing upload copyrighted images that they really, really want to use, and then claim fair use. The Wikipedia probably won't even get cease-and-desist notices for the very flattering publicity photos on the website that have been claimed as fair use, and many of the fancruft screenshots are so bad that they won't get any complaints either, but that still leaves a large percentage of "fair use" images that could cause problems for the Wikipedia, especially if they eventually produce a print version, or a CD-ROM version like the German Wikipedia has.
