Same vandal as last night edit

As you have probably noticed, last night's vandal (user:216.165.96.96, 24.47.242.1 and 68.175.108.175) is continuing it from 128.122.88.132 and 216.165.112.100. Evading a block by using another ip is grounds for extending the block of the original ip or account, is it not?--Srleffler 05:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Modern architecture edit

I nearly reverted this [1] but then stopped when I remembered something about Loos likening ornament to a tatooed man (a 1900's shortcut for criminality) - It's quite possible he also said all art is erotic - what's your take on it? --Mcginnly | Natter 13:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't really know if that phrase was in that essay, I thought it was "Ornament and Crime" though - a discussion somewhat implying one was the other, maybe it has been translated to "Ornament is Crime." Why ask me and not User:JoeLeff? Why not cites for the other quotes? DVD+ R/W 05:35, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Architecture notability edit

To counter spurious time consuming AfD's, I've had a stab at a draft policy for architectural notability here. I've attempted to restrict the scope of the proposal to actual 'works of architecture', architects, building technology and legal aspects of the profession. Buildings and structures notability enmasse should probably be a separate enterprise, or at least a later one. I need to give some thought to threshold notability and have shied away from minor works by major architects, because buildings are not like music or literature, they cannot generally be ignored by the public and play some kind of role in most built environments, so I argue the impact is beyond just they're effectiveness or otherwise as a work of art. Comments (by anyone) gladly received. Cheers --Mcginnly | Natter 21:38, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't hear of many AfDs for architecture articles - so you counter non-existant AfDs with a spurious time-consuming policy page? ;-) DVD+ R/W 05:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aga Khan Award for Architecture peer review edit

Hi DVD! I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to read the Aga Khan Award for Architecture article and for providing your comments and advise. It is much appreciated; your ideas will be useful in improving the article. I will also give further thought to the featured lists suggestion. Thanks again! -- Aylahs (talk) 15:16, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Synagogues edit

You welcome. Yes I am using the Polish Synagogues Portal :). From your previous contributions I suppose you know French language. Maybe you will be interested in translating some articles from fr:Catégorie:Synagogue française. Regards. - Darwinek 12:18, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I can translate both. I am just not so sure how to name both in English. "Maisel Synagogue" and "Jubilee Synagogue" ? Any suggestions ? - Darwinek 10:19, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done. :) - Darwinek 12:35, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Seasons greetings and a happy new year edit

Seasons greetings - hope you have had a good one - I was unable to move to the computer yesterday such was the weight of turkey ballast trimming my stomach. I've nominated the portal for featured status and it seems to be getting ok reviews so far. Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Architecture. cheers. --Mcginnly | Natter 01:21, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

ladybug edit

Essjay, thanks again for your help the other day, but I still am not seeing an image. This is what I tried:

/* Orange bar of death */

.usermessage {
    background:  url('http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Tarsier-GG.jpg') top right no-repeat;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    padding-left: 20px;
    text-transform: none;
    height: 35px;
    background-color: #ffffff;
    border: none;
    color: #000000;
    font-weight: bold;
    font-size: 115%;
    margin: 2em 0em 1em 0em;
    padding: 0.5em 1em;
    vertical-align: middle;
}

Can you help? Holiday cheers, DVD+ R/W 01:51, 26 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

When you link the image, you should use the link you get when you click "Download high resolution version (1600x2400, 990 KB)" under the image on the description page, in this case, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/59/Tarsier-GG.jpg. There is a caution, however; whatever the image looks like on that page is exactly what it will look like in the usermessage, so unless you want a giant image, you should scale it down to be the size you want to see (take a look at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/Nuvola_apps_ktip_50px.png, which is exactly what I see; if I'd used http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d8/Nuvola_apps_ktip.png, it would be that size. If you need help scaling it, I'll be happy to do so. Essjay (Talk) 01:55, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Featured portal candidate edit

The portal's currently up as a featured portal candidate. It's been generally well received but some input would be appreciated regarding the news section. The comments have been that a news section should reflect current events, as the section is not updated massively regularly, the reviewers feel it's not really reflecting current events. I've argued that architectural news is rather scant and suggested renaming the section to something like "Architecture in 2006-2007" but I'm not sure they'll go for this. Other suggestions include a "Architecture in this month" section. What should we do? I've opened a debate thread here --Mcginnly | Natter 01:24, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Timely revert edit

Thanks for reverting the work of some nutter on my user page. Occasionally I wonder if these people are "tired and emotional", or mentally ill, or what; but then I reconsider and quickly decide that I have more important things to think about. -- Hoary 11:43, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Sure, I have account as commons:User:Darwinek, with nice gallery :). I have get these images from PL wiki, they are sourceless there, so it would be rather difficult to upload it to Commonz without a source. - Darwinek 22:05, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I contacted him when I was starting all these articles and it seems like he found some photos and bet it was PD since the photos are really old and photographers are very probably dead. To be honest, it isn't 100% sure they are PD. - Darwinek 22:14, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

The portal's got featured status! nice one. Dogears is sorting out the autorotation bells and whistles. --Mcginnly | Natter 09:09, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

heh I think it looks better without that star on it. the FPCs are interesting to hear what other editors and portal connoisseurs say. it won't go on the main page though so I don't really get how it is featured. DVD+ R/W 21:58, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Humbug ;-) I like the idea of Portal connoisseurs browsing the electro delights of content presentation

"indeed and the navigation is so effortless I found my mouse was trembling with the excitement"

Your comments on my user talk page edit

You made comments on my user talk page (User talk:80.43.115.72) about vandalism to the Judaism page, however I have not made any edits to that page, and looking through the page history myself, I do not see my IP address there anywhere. Pics edit

I've made the change you suggested. I plan to transfer move my digital contributions to the Commons under one name but haven't gotten around to it.

A reader posted a note reminding us that Image:ChiatDay Gehry.jpg is only a portion of the building. The two-story white building to the left of the picture (north) is the bulk of the Gehry-designed structure. I'd like to go back and get the whole building.

Nice photograph on your user page. Ah, Tri-X, I knew it well, and I miss it (especially now with my digitial camera flashing gibberish. Tri-X was trustworthy.) You clearly know how to get the best from it. Cheers, -Will Beback · · 08:03, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
