Vandalism warnings edit

Hi, I noticed that you might be having some problems with the "-n" vandalism warnings. The proper syntax is to simply add the article name in question after including "|", as in {{subst:test-n|article name}}. Test templates without the "-n" modifier are also appropriate, since most of the time the user/vandal/ip will be aware of exactly which of their actions prompted the warning. Good luck with vandal hunting! ˉˉanetode╦╩ 04:11, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Mediation edit

I would advise you to read Wikipedia:Mediation_Committee#Nominations_for_mediator for more information; nothing is officially required, though we usually prefer to see some previous experience in Wikipedia dispute resolution. Could I also politely request that you reconsider your nomination? While we always appreciate enthusiastic candidates, mediators usually have much more experience than you currently have on Wikipedia. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 03:31, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

On that note, I thought I should mention that I concur with Flcelloguy. We generally require much more experience from a mediator before allowing them onto the committee. It's absolutely nothing personal. If you'd take a look at some of the other nominations that have been rejected, you'll notice that this is a common rejection reason. I also noticed that you blanked your nomination page. I'm just letting you know that I undid that, and I moved it properly to the archives of requests, where it belongs. Thanks, and have a nice day. ^demon[omg plz] 04:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Dave Bautista edit

I wasn't asking you to stop. I was telling you, the creator of the thread, and everyone else who responded to stop because WP:TPG explicitly says, "Talk pages are not for general conversation. Keep discussions on the topic of how to improve the associated article. Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal." I deleted the entire thread. Talk pages aren't for discussing anything related to the article subject. They are for discussing ways to improve the article and nothing else. -- THLRCCD 04:11, 4 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal." I'm sorry if I came across too strongly. The reason I came after you was because you just decided to ignore me, or "disregard my last request" as you said. Though it fits into Wikipedia policy, people try their best to not delete any discussions from talk pages other than vandalism. When I run into this kind of discussion I ask everyone involved in the discussion to stop, and if they don't, then I delete it. It was a general statement, not one meant towards you. I didn't go after the poster because he/she was an anon, and anons don't understand Wikipedia policy as well as we are supposed to. It doesn't matter if you are the original poster or not; Wikipedia policy forbids using talk pages as a forum. Now that this policy has been brought to your attention, I hope that you will choose to follow it in the future. Making friends is fine, but use your own talk page, or theirs. See the members list for WP:PW, many people on that list share your interests, and even I would be willing to be your friend. This is nothing personal; I'm just trying to enforce policy. I hope that you haven't taken it that way. Cheers, -- THLR 16:43, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad that you understand now, and that you haven't taken this personally. My attempt at a Wikibreak has failed miserably, so I'm back. Cheers, -- THL 07:27, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, for a while there was someone who kept adding that Matt Hardy looks like Tommy, the original green power ranger. That is really all I've seen though. Cheers, -- THL 22:38, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

For comparison, Matt Hardy vs. Tommy Oliver. Cheers, -- THL 22:41, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

That is what I thought. Also, the people who fix the small errors are just as important as, if not more important than the people who revert vandalism. It is the small things that keep article from becoming featured. Merry Christmas to you to. -- THL 06:53, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Hekmatpanah edit

You asked at the village pump about creating an article on your cello teacher... There is no problem with your doing that. However, before you do, take a look at the various policies and guidelines on writing articles: Wikipedia:Notability, Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Original research, Wikipedia:Reliable sources, and especially Wikipedia:Biographies of living people. In short, make sure that what you put in the article is not your oppinion/view of your teacher, but the views/opinions of others that have been published somewhere. You can certainly use his website as one source of information... but you should look for others as well. Perahps you could find some reviews of his performances and compositions, or discussion of him in newspapers, or something of that nature. If he is not discussed in such external sources, then you should ask yourself if he is truly notable enough for inclusion in an encyclopedia.

My advice... go ahead and create the best article you can. If someone comes along and criticizes it, don't get upset. Criticism can often improve an article. Good luck. Blueboar 13:53, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't simply copy his webpage into the article... you will probably have to copy some things verbatum, but re-write and paraphrase what you can. Also try to find other sources besides his webpage. Again, good luck. Blueboar 17:40, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cuke—regarding your question about your cello teacher, I'm afraid I removed him off the list after a wild goose chase of sorts while attempting to find secondary sources to confirm his notability. When looking to see whether I personally create an article, I usually try to follow a modified version in the spirit of the guidelines for academics at WP:PROF: basically, try to look for major recordings, awards (like those from the Eva Janzer Memorial Cello Center) or contributions to the music scene. The latter of the three revolves around continually cranking out cellists that receive top positions in orchestras—these people tend to reside at major schools of music like the Curtis Institute of Music, University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, USC Thornton School of Music, etc. Not to mention, if we added every student of Stephen Kates, Fritz Magg, Gabor Rejto, Eleonore Schoenfeld, Leonard Rose, Channing Robbins, Richard Aaron, Aldo Parisot, and other notable cello teachers, we'd have a lot of cellists on our hands, and not a lot of encyclopedic content. ;)

That said, I'll echo what Blueboar told you and encourage you to find verifiable sources on him, keeping an eye out for Wikipedia:Original research and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. If you don't manage to fare any better than me, however, keep in mind that there are plenty of other cellists in need of a good biography! Best, CA387 05:23, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid notability isn't as simple as asking asking someone "Are you notable?". Chances are, I'm sure you could get all the information you need for an encyclopedia article by talking to him, just like I can get all the information I'd ever want for an encyclopedia article on Rose, my next door neighbor: and with the way she talks, that would be a relatively easy feat! However, besides WP:NOTE violations, there also comes problems with Wikipedia's policy of no original research. I'd recommend that before considering writing any articles, you first read up on Wikipedia's core principles. Then, find yourself some secondary sources. Best of luck. --CA387 06:05, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter message edit

It has recently been brought to the attention of WP:PW that the newsletter is being to delivered to several users who have not been actively editing for several months. As a result, their talk pages have become increasingly large, unmanageable and slow to load due to a lack of archiving.
In response, this message is being sent to all editors listed in Category:WikiProject Professional wrestling participants to say that anyone who does not list their name at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Active before May 16 will be automatically listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Nospam, and will no longer receive the newsletter or any notification of it. If you are added to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Nospam, please feel free to remove your name if you desire.
If you wish to continue receiving the newsletter as normal, please add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Professional wrestling/Newsletter/Active. If you simply wish to receive notification of a new issue, but not have the full newsletter delivered to your talk page, please add your name to the notification only list.
If you have any queries please contact me at my talk page or leave a message at WT:PW. Thank you for your co-operation. ♥NiciVampireHeart♥ 00:36, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

It appears that this user, Cuke monster (talk · contribs), hasn't been active since 2008. I've gone ahead and deleted the old wrestling newsletters, since the page was over 500K in size. Cuke, if you return and would like the newsletters back, feel free to pull them out of history, or contact me or some other user (like by posting {{helpme}} here on your talkpage), and we'll get you fixed up. --Elonka 03:15, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
