Lee Terbosic edit

@Cmclementi: I know starting out at Wikipedia can be a bit frustrating and confusing but hang in there, it eventually will get easier. I saw your question at the Teahouse and wanted to offer some personal observations. I am no expert, I just have been watching how all this works a bit longer than you so maybe what I see might help.

It is obvious you like this magician's work and you want to write a good Wikipedia article so others can appreciate him too. Lee Terbosic seems to be an "up-and-coming" talent who may become very famous. Unfortunately -- and you may not want to hear this -- you have not been able to provide references that meet Wikipedia's standards.

Have heart, because if Terbosic does become famous the article will become easier to write, but you may have to be patient until that fame arrives.

Wikipedia belongs to a community of people who care about doing things the right way. Sometimes editors are very busy and not always willing to talk new users through the issues. Sometimes they will tell you go read a bunch of stuff ... and they are right, you do need to read that stuff. Sorry, we all have to learn this stuff.

But ... I am going to try and give you a small jumpstart so that when you read that stuff it will make more sense.

Without going into a lot of our "WP jargon" the basic issue you are up against is that we (you, me, and every other Wikipedian) cannot allow our website to be used (intentionally or unintentionally) by up-and-coming people (or groups or businesses or events or products) -- or their fans/supporters -- to boost their fame/career/sales/etc. This is called "promotion" and is forbidden on Wikipedia.

That means that articles about such people/groups/businesses/events/products must be very carefully written and all reference sources must be independent to the article's topic. Let me show you some of the problems so you can understand why it is difficult to accept the article as is:

You use the website www.talentnetworknews.com but that website is directly connected to Talent Network Inc. & David Sedelmeier, an entertainment booking agency and talent manager that has a commercial relationship with Lee Terbosic (see [1] and click the "Contact" link) and therefor cannot be considered "independent" since they will profit by his fame rising.

You said he was on national TV ... In the article you say he was on TLC's "Four Weddings" reality show but you provide no reference that proves that. At Wikipedia having a verifiable reference for any fact you write in the article is critical.

You use IMDB (usually a good source) but that page talks about his role as a writer and producer, not as a magician. What IMDB does do however works against you, because it tells us that the show "52 Up Close" is self-written and self-produced by Terbosic so "52 Close Up" is not an independent source either but rather a form of self-promotion.

I know a lot of what I am saying is not very pleasant but maybe now that you know why your work has been declined in the past, the understanding will help lower the frustration levels. Maybe now you are better able to know what you need to look for in order to create an acceptable article. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Of course you still need to read all that "stuff" we talked about. I suggest starting with Help:Getting started and follow all the links on that page. F6697 FORMERLY 66.97.209.215 TALK 10:54, 5 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
