Trichloroethylene edit

I don't think that was me, though I've edited enough articles that I've wandered into that I might have forgotten it. I'm having trouble finding the deleted section in the history, though, which would make it easier for me to tell if I was involved or not. Can you send me a link to the old version? Bronchiolitis obliterans vandal advice edit

The vandalism is ongoing. As i wrote on the B.O. discussion page, i would not be surprised if this was being done at a legal rep or public relations rep for the popcorn industry. This sort of vandalism has happened before to medical and political pages when their topics become newsworthy.

The good news is that this kind of vandalism can be fought, but you need to, first, get the page together the way you want it to look. Don't bother "compromising" with the vandal. Just pick up the best parts of what was there before, add the new est updats, and then upload it.

At the same time, contact one of the admins. I have had very good results when working with an admin with the user name AnonEMouse User:AnonEMouse. Go to her discussion page and explain the problem clearly, in four sentences. Ask her to visit the page, view the history, and then to SEMI-PROTECT the page, becuse its newsworthiness is causing problems with anonymous "IP block" vandals.

Semi-protection means that people who do not sign in will not be able to edit the page. Only logged-in users will have the capacity to work on the page. Semi-protection usually lasts for 7 days -- and it can be renewed if the admins feel it is necessary.

Good luck!

Unspecified source for Image:NIOSHlogo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:NIOSHlogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 17:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that you weren't very specific on where you got the image. Yes the NIOSH is a federal government agency, so the image is likely free, but you still (and always) need to provide enough sourcing information so that the license information can be verified. Would you please add the HTML website page that you found the logo on? Also, the image isn't being used in any article. Even if it is free, we really only want/need images that are useful to us, so if you don't plan to use it in an article, then perhaps you could recommend it for deletion via WP:IFD or another method. Thanks for understanding (and asking for help!) and your contributions to Wikipedia. MECUtalk 22:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm not talking about being used here on Wikipedia. Though the other image you uploaded that is no longer used would be good to get rid of. I'll search through your uploads and take a look to see if I can dump it. With the image deleted now, I'm not sure how best to resolve this. You said you got it when you had access to their intranet. This may not make it qualified, and the current logos they have on their website don't exactly match this image. It might be best to get a new (and higher quality?) logo and just upload it from scratch and provide some good sourcing information. You could also just upload it to Commons too. MECUtalk 19:08, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I found Image:Niosh.gif, but it's being used. This is the only image you have uploaded that hasn't been deleted yet, so the other one may have already been deleted. This image suffers from the same problem though, and you need to provide better sourcing information. I won't mark it since you seem to be confused and could use the extra time in sorting it out, but please do take care of it. MECUtalk 19:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I think we're getting somewhere. Take a look at User talk:MECU/Image FAQ #2 and #3 and that should clear everything up. The same rules would apply if you decided to reupload the deleted image. If you're still confused, lemme know. Thanks for working with me on this. MECUtalk 23:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

{{helpme}}I want to create an article about a recent book author. However, there is an article with the same title. So how do I handle this? (The article is David Michaels.)

In that case, you could create an article with the author's name and then something in Brackets e.g. 'JK Rowling (Fiction)' ——Ryan(talk) 21:16, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
But then how would people get to it? Would I put a link on the David Michaels page that says "For David Michaels, author of _______, click here" or something like that? Or is a disambiguation page the way to go? - Chrissy385 (talk) 21:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well you would create a disambiguation page. Are you sure the authors aren't the same person? If they share the same name, what if they're the same? ——Ryan(talk) 21:19, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely positive they are not the same person. The page David Michaels actually refers to a pseudonymn. I want to create a page about David Michaels, epidemiologist and author of Doubt is Their Product. I actually just noticed someone already created this page because there is an actor named David Michaels as well. Now that there will be three, I guess we need a disambiguation page? Ok, say for example you have two authors going by the name JK Rowling and an article already exists at JK Rowling. You would move this article to new title e.g. JK Rowling (Fiction) and then create your secondary article JK Rowling (Horror). Then, create a third article called JK Rowling (Disambiguation) and then insert the two links. Then redirect JK Rowling to point to this disambig page. Understand? :) ——Ryan(talk) 21:26, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

You could create a disambig page, or you could just have two dab links from the splinter cell author's page. –xenocidic (talk) 21:27, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • {{otheruses4|author of the Splinter Cell and EndWar novels|the actor|David Michaels (actor)|the epidemiologist|David Michaels (epidemiologist)}}
