What to do with Ultimate Spider-Man (story arcs) and comment

I think the story arcs should be just gone. Seeing as how longer titles don't have story arc pages (from what I've seen at least...), Ultimate titles shouldn't be an exception. This was in AFD months ago, and survived... but then was made into a redirect. Then someone turned the redirect back into an article. A comics project talk page post about it is here: [[1]]. Comment: I joined ComicSpace today. It seems like a great idea for comic fans. I sent you a request. RobJ1981 23:57, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

These all really need to go. I will add you at ComicSpace.--Chris Griswold ()

RE: Just a Small Note

Hi Chris (per your post on my talk), just responding. I edited the word to put the sentence in line with the other tense used in the sentence. :-) --Squashua 22:58, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Superhero box addition

this was probably talked about somewhere before, but i was reading DC Countdown to Infinite Crisis and i saw their profiles had a "base of operations." I think it could make a good optional category because "home planet" made it. --Exvicious 02:39, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

That's quite a bit more ephemeral than place of origin. Sorry it has taken so much time to respond. --Chris Griswold () 06:00, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Yes, well, usually the keepers of the article will check for "you" and find it is being used everywhere outside quotations. But since it seems people prefer to just remove tags instead of investigate, I did a slightly more exact summary this time, and added a note in the talk page. -- ReyBrujo 14:48, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Pittsburgh Categories

I've been working through categories about Pittsburgh that I can find (Ouch! My head hurts) and adding descriptions using {{pghmetrocats}}. I found there were a couple of redundant cats that I emptied out as they only had one entry:

As a wikilink to art gallery redirects to art museum, I don't think we need separate cats.

Anyway, the point of this rambling is to get those two categories deleted, can you take care of it?

Also there's an article Mercy Hospital (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)/Temp. What's up with that?

Thanx for looking into these. – Paschmitts 03:05, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I have moved the newspaper articles to "published in", which is the properly titled article and have deleted the other category. Also deleted art galleries cat. The Mercy/Temp is something being used to fix the Mercy article right now (A doctor from the hospital wrote it, and it violated copyright). Which categories did you empty? --Chris Griswold () 18:07, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I emptied Category:Newspapers published in Pittsburgh and Category:Art galleries in Pittsburgh. I assumed that since Category:Newspapers of Pittsburgh had many newspapers and the other only had one, it was the one to go with. But it doesn't really matter as long as we don't have both. As for Mercy/Temp, I hadn't run into something like that before and by then my eyes had crossed and my brain had shutdown. That's why I asked. Thanx again. – Paschmitts 00:04, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.

Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:16, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Mjolnir comics article

I hate to bother you with this, but since you know more about wikipedia's standards and rules more than myself and seem to know many of the key editor better I submit this to you judgment. As you might know for the last several months a struggle of sorts has gone on between two different versions of the article between a poster named Asgardian and various other Wikipedia contributers including Covenant D. Namely between what was accepted by the Wikipedia editors and rules and what Asgardian himself thought the article should be composed of without anythought to anyone else's contribution. After numerious attempts to combine the articles, meet Wikipedia standards, insistance on the part of several of the editors, etc. an article with a photo seemed to be made that was accepted. Asgardian himself sometimes made changes to his own version after being told numerous times certain changes had to be made or certain facts that were truthful had to be included. Around the beginning of December an article was set-up that I thought finally all parties agreed upon with minute changes now and then to make sure it was the best possible. However, at the end of December Asgardian started reverting it back to his article. I admit he seems to have finally met many of Wikipedia's standards and the article may be acceptable to Wikipedia. However, there is still some information I believe should be included that his does not. In this I have several times reverted the article to the other version that is not his. The version I thought everybody agree upon. I admit part of me gets infuriated at times with what seems to be Asgardian's attitude of his way and only his way. If it would be possible, could you and maybe one or two of the other Wikipedia editors review each Mjolnir comics article and deem what is best for the it. I fear my lack of knowledge about Wikipedia standards and personal views may be interfering with my judgment. If Asgardian's article meets your approval or if you deem it best to combine the article, or whatever version of the article you and the other editors think is best I will accept. Thank you Seekquaze

P. S. I accedintly posted this on Covenant D's discussion page first. The issue is the same and he is more familiar with it. Whatever you guys abide by I will agree with.

Editorial guidelines

Hi Chris, would you please inform users DCincarnate and Asgardian about the Project's editorial guidelines? Despite their personal (and several) edit wars, I think they should get familiarized with it in order to avoid bad edits. Cheers! —Lesfer (t/c/@) 21:10, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Myspace blogs

Hi, Chris. I don't know if you recognize me from film articles, but I have a request. Yesterday, I ran into an issue with Wizardry Dragon, who was mass-deleting blog.myspace.com links using AWB. I engaged in a discussion with him, which turned into a stalemate. At his RfA, I brought the issue up, and I found out that Raul654 had blacklisted Myspace blogs per Jimbo's request. I talked to Raul (see discussion: User talk:Raul654#Myspace), and he recommended using admins to whitelist any valid Myspace blogs. There are two that I know of, those for the following films: Iron Man (film) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Is there any chance you can address the blog links for these articles, and handling any future valid blog.myspace.com links down the run? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 05:35, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

I would be happy to look into it; won't be able to do anything until tomorrow. Thanks for the notice. --Chris Griswold () 05:55, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Can you add valid Myspace blog link for Iron Man? The links are e.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=42500584&blogID=115158162&MyToken=41704daa-3e5c-42c5-9e6b-bd7a4a49e79e? There is a space between the "c" and "e" to allow me to display the link to you. Let us know on the talk page when it's done. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 15:00, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Have you actually added the above Myspace blog to the spam whitelist? I got a blacklist warning when I tried to save the Iron Man film article with another edit. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 18:50, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I know how to do this now, but I have to ask, how do you know for sure that this is John Favreau's blog? --Chris Griswold () 19:23, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
The blog is verifiable here as belonging to the director, and further news from the blog has been reported as such. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 14:44, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Done. --Chris Griswold () 19:49, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Histoire de M. Vieux Bois

Hi Chris -- I was wondering, as you are an administrator who frequents comics-related wiki entries, if you could keep an eye on the Histoire de M. Vieux Bois article. Grenye and I have been working hard to improve the quality of this article, but some of our work has been hampered by an anonymous user. This user seems to be a "collector" taking out a personal conflict with a dealer of Victorian-era comic dealer. Sometimes this is in the form of strange, errant parentheticals opposing calling this publication a comic. At other times it is rambling, personal attacks toward the dealer featuring links to a message board as "citations." Early on, the user engaged in deleting valid citations from the article. The user's edits can be seen in the current article's edit history as well as the history of the now-redirected The_Adventures_of_Obadiah_Oldbuck.

I think that Grenye and I have been careful that this article not proclaim that the book is absolutely the first comic book -- both in the first sentence, which is clear that it is a "publication" only "sometimes said" to be the first comic, and in the article, which is concerned with the history and context by which it is called this. At any rate, I suspect the user's axe to grind has less to do with the publication itself and more to do with the abrasive nature of someone on an Internet message board, which I have a funny feeling does not meet notability standards. ~CS 00:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: vandalism

in User_talk:68.92.199.249
I'm not sure if this is the correct way to reply; if it isn't, I apologize in advance. It was the first article that I have ever edited, and probably the last. I read the article you linked me to on Wikipedia:Vandalism and could not find any problem with correcting typographical errors. All I did was change the word "off" to "of", by removing a letter (see here) - so I'm confused how you consider that "adding nonsense". According to Wikipedia:Typo, Wikipedia encourages typographical corrections. Can you please clarify this?. Also, have I been flagged, warned or banned for this? Thanks. 68.92.199.249 08:20, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Avengiers infobox

While the piece was used for promotional purposes, hence the licensing tag, it is the same art used for the cover of issue #38. Adding "promotional" to the caption makes it sound like it was used to sell the issue, but not on the issue itself.

Side note: I had uploaded the actual cover to avoid this and reinforce the fact it's a comic book team, but DrBat decided to revert it...

Thanks for listening... — J Greb 16:32, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

You know what? You're absolutely right — about uploading actual cover art to replace promotional art. I have done the same thing before and run into the same problem with the same user. The other thing, about what to call it? That, you'll have to bring at WT:CMC because the consensus as far as I know is to call it promotional art. --Chris Griswold () 16:35, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Video Game

Not sure if Im doing this right but it has been stated all that those characters will be in the game so I'd appreciate it if you would put everything you took down, and put it back up. Thats the reason we have the "sources" section. It states all the characters and locations there. Plus, Im a member of the Leaky Cauldrons Fan Council were we get exclusive info. HP OOTP Video Game #2

If you check all the sources surely you would have listened to the pottercasts. All the info I have is from those Podcasts. Go listen and reply to me here. And it has nothing to do that it is a "Message Board" its a fan council that Electronic Arts' producers of the Harry Potter games answer questions. Also, the runner of the thread has vistied the EA headquarters enough times to answer questions we ask her. Thanks. -Joe —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Joecool15 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

The Leaky Lounge is a message board. it functions on a message board system. I don't care whather the person who started the thread claims to have visited EA; it's still very much unreliable. Do not point me in a general direction and tell me to go listen to podcasts; prove your point or don't. --Chris Griswold () 20:09, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

The Leaky Cauldron visits EA article about an editor of the fan site visiting the Headquearters of EA. EA has asked her to open up a Fan Council were fans can ask questions about the game or suggest ideas. Those questions are answered by the producers of the Harry Potter and the oOrder of the Phoniex video game producers via podcasts. If you do not want to listen to the podcasts, I will direct you to the transcripts Transcript 1 Transcript 2 The interview is halfway down the page. REad those and tell me when it's good to post up all my confirmed information again. Thanks Joecool15 20:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Joecool15

Your "fan council" is still a message board. We can't be sure who is answering questions there. Show me exactly where on these podcast transcripts these lists are offered. --Chris Griswold () 22:01, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

You can't check yourself? If your going through the trouble of deleting my hardwork then you hould put some effort into reading bits by yourself. I guess your to busy to read a bit, so here: Go here and listen to this podcast for about 20 seconds. With that said, you will know that the Fan Council is actually reliable. If you would listen to the whole thing, thats where I have about 99.9% of my information from.

5) Even though the user will be able to play as a variety of different Hogwarts students and adults, will the user also be able to play as various magical creatures, for example Dobby, Firenze or Grawp?

We are building over 120 characters in this game – which is an amazing stretch for our team. We really want to include all the characters you see in the movies and the books. These include all the members of Dumbledore’s Army, The teachers, members of the Order of the Phoenix, Professor Umbridge, the Inquisitorial Squad as well as many pupils in Hogwarts, Thestrals and Grawp. We don’t have plans for Firenze or Dobby specifically but we have so many others! Block quote

info from here Anymore questions reply here and I'll be delighted to talk again. Until then, Joecool15 22:16, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

The burden is on you to provide proof for the information you are adding. Either provide it, or it stays removed. I will add the info you just provided.

Ok, tell me what I need to do? Add the "citatiion" things? If so, how do I do that? What am I doing wrong? Allll of the info I have saved is confirmed so when can I post itcorrectly? Joecool15 22:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

SVG

(ref) The main reason is that SVG images are based on vectors rather than pixels, so they can be scaled to an arbitrary size without any loss in quality. This is especially important for (future) print editions of Wikipedia. They're also usually smaller than PNG files and allow for easier editing. (Of course, the SVG format is only suitable for some kinds of image; see Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload.) — brighterorange (talk) 17:07, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Help request

Hiya, Chris. Hope things are well. I haven't seen many of your edits lately; I imagine Admin stuff is taking up a lot of time.

I hate to add to it, but I need to ask if you'd mind just posting a little civility warning at the talk page of User:Theplanetsaturn. He's the editor you helped with before, who got blocked on a 3RR and went on a name-calling jag. He's at it again, saying I'm a liar — this, after several lack-of-good-faith accusations on his part that I tried to response to in turn-the-other-cheek fashion. If you get a chance to go to User talk:Theplanetsaturn#Personal attack on Tenebrae and take a look at the posts from Jan. 23 on, I'm sure you'll see the picture.

Bad-faith accusations I can deal with. Being called a liar, none of us should have to deal with. I know if you give him a friendly warning about how that steps over a certain line, it might help him realize his actions.

Geez, no wonder Steve's getting burnt out! Thanks, Chris. Take a gander at my new articles and the revamped Joe Gill if you get a chance. Cheers to you, --Tenebrae 01:07, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Absolutely. But first let me say Congratulations and godspeed on your decision to apply to Columbia School of Journalism. If I can help, let me know. At the very least, I can tell you the good but inexpensive places places to eat in the neighborhood! Or, y'know, point you in the way of a couple internships.
As for the other thing: It's basically two links. I made an edit to Jhonen Vasquez‎ requesting a citation. You'll see the dif and my edit summary on the left, and his remarkable first statement, "Your motives are suspect," in his edit summary on the right at this page.
The dialog from there is pretty linear at User talk:Theplanetsaturn#Personal attack on Tenebrae, starting from my Jan. 23 statement, "I'm sorry you believe my motives are suspect." The remainder is just that talk-page section.
Honestly, it's only when he says I'm lying that this crosses a line. All the fulminating and harrumphing I don't care about. But there are lines that you just don't cross in a collaborative medium.
Anyway — thanks. And BTW, I'm amazed and gratified to see people be excited about journalism. There's so much apathy in the fourth estate, so much comfortable status quo. Fred Friendly, who used to hold a J chair at Columbia, famously said the job of a journalist is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. When journalists become "the comfortable" themselves, well ... that just puts the universe out of whack.
And now I have to go get ready to watch Jon Stewart in a half-hour, since he's one of the very few people actually asking the questions we're supposed to ask! Man, what does that say?!--Tenebrae 03:26, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Wait, did you go to Columbia? I actually did not know you were a journalist. I will take care of this tonight. --Chris Griswold () 03:29, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey -- good luck. I've just gotten my applications to a few Literature programs submitted myself. Now it's a waiting game... ~CS 04:57, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Help on Kyra Schon

Chris -

I've worked a little on the article for Kyra Schon, who famously appeared in Night of the Living Dead. Ms. Schon has recently created an account (KyraSchon (talk · contribs)) and made two edits [5][6] to her article. I also believe she also made the previous edit [7] as well, which removed her employment information.

As indicated by her last edit, she does not like her employment made public due to problems with fans. I was wondering what the Wikipedia etiquette was in cases like this. Personally, I find her current employment interesting, but do not wish to burden her with "stalkers." Maybe a more general description of her job without giving a specific location would be more appropriate?

I also think some of her edits violate the original research or similar rules. Thanx for looking into this.

Paschmitts 20:12, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Dealing with it now. Thanks. Have asked her to make note that it is her on her user page; I don't doubt this is her, but we have to at least have confirmation. Am going to the other admins for advice on this situation with regard to her employment, which is noted on both her and CAPA's sites. --Chris Griswold () 21:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanx. I've noted the situation on the article's talk page. It would probably be best to continue the discussion there. – Paschmitts 01:12, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Removal of External link without proper justification

Hello, You recently removed an external link that i contributed from the Emotional Intelligence page. My purpose was not to solicit but merely to add an article by Helen Sweeny, an expert on child psychology, regarding EI. I see *very similar* external links at the bottom of the page and they are still there. I do not understand nor appreciate my article link being removed. The article was directly related to EI and more specifically to children. You messaged me with a pre-made wikipedia "policies" paragraph. I have read this and i am sure my article adheres to the wikipedia rules. Thanx—Preceding unsigned comment added by Stanto (talkcontribs) 12:55, January 28, 2007

I disagree with every instance of your inserting links to that site. Here, for instance, you link to a page that has nothing to do with Cabbage Patch Kids, changing the name of the page slightly to make it seem related. Although your article may be on parenting, the Parentng external links section is full, and it needs to be reduced, and your link is one of the first that should go. --Chris Griswold () 18:25, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

So why start and stop at my link and not continuing with the rest? I sense favoritism... The Cabbage article was a mistake and I apologize. I thought the article was about the "Soup for the soul" series.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Stanto (talkcontribs) 13:33, January 28, 2007

You can drop the "favoritism" accusation; I didn't start there. I have removed all of the links you added to that site, starting with the Cabbage Patch Kids article. I am glad you agree with me that these links have little to do with the articles you are adding them to. I mean, even if the article was about Chicken Soup for the Soul, that has nothing to do with Cabbage Patch Kids, does it? Oh, and please sign your comments by adding four tildes (~~~~) afterward. --Chris Griswold () 21:17, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Per your suggestion, I have just weeded out the external links in Parenting, removing blogs, forums, and commercial or amateur sites, leaving only university and major non-profit organization sites. --21:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Breaking lines

Just a question. A while back you when you informed me of my mistake witht he superhero boxes you noted that the break points should be
not
like it is in the link that you left me. Well I went back to do some research and it is still like that. Is there some reason it is like that or was what I was doing something different. Thefro552 22:09, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I believe
is correct, but these lists should use commas, not breaks. --Chris Griswold () 22:10, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Please be sure when adding information to articles that you are adding information about the article's subject and not something else with the same name. Thanks, Chris Griswold () 22:06, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, that was an inexcusable mistake on my part. I need to look at the subjects more carefully -- or maybe a MAP would have helped me to figure out that Birmingham is nowhere near Pittsburgh. --Elkman - (Elkspeak) 22:27, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I looked over your other edits to be sure, but it seems like you are doing fine work otherwise. Thanks for making Wikipedia better. --Chris Griswold () 22:32, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Marvel Database

Hi ChrisGriswold ! I've noticed you removed several links to MarvelDatabase. I've just added them because they were related to the character. I'm not spamming, just thought the links were useful. Hope I didn't offend you. I like your edits and your anti-vandal policies. Copycat989 16:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Category Rename?

Chris -

Could you chime in at Category talk:Parks in Pittsburgh about the appropriateness of changing the Category name?

Thanx. – Paschmitts 22:20, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Done. --Chris Griswold () 22:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Excuse me?

Look, Chris, I'm not sure what you're getting at here, but this is not "nonsense", as you put it. I was planning on adding references, and was in the middle of editing the page when you removed my stub about the 1996 controversy involving PBS and Fred Rogers. I will be adding that segment back, and I will have references. I would appreciate it if you, in the future, could refrain from automatically removing edits without reason. What makes online reference sites like Wikipedia so useful is the ability for anyone to edit an article on which they have a degree of knowledge. In the future, please research a topic before blindly removing information that you disagree with.

Thanks, Steven

In regard to your revert, Chappers is commonly called Chopper now by Scott so I do not think this is Vandalism. Comments? -Coolmark18 21:24, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Do what you feel is correct. The user had just vandalized toilet. Thanks. --Chris Griswold () 21:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Ultimate Spider-Woman

It's interesting how your previoius remark, "She could be a clone, she could be an alternate-reality Peter Parker" wound up being somewhat true on both counts. Doczilla 10:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Ha. Did it? I haven't kept up with it. I wondered if Bendis was going to subvert expectations by making them alternate-reality Parkers instead of clones. --Chris Griswold () 10:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Not exactly. If you do catch up on what Ultimate Spider-Woman is, though, you'll see what I mean. My own theory had been time travel because of some weird things Ultimate Scorpion and Ultimate screwy-face-but-never-identified-as-Kaine has said. I'd wondered if not-Kane was a future Pete who came back to make the clones. So, like you, I'd wondered if Bendis would subvert expectations with something really far out. Why do you have reverting this article to the version of the IP who begins the vandalism?--Plk 17:54, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Journalist yes. Columbia no. Busy lately insanely -- when it rains it pours. I'm just trying to help with a few copy edits till I have to disappear into work again for a few days. Serious about the offer. Good luck! --Tenebrae 20:37, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
