Orphaned non-free image File:Ora-logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Ora-logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. SuperMarioMan 23:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, as long as the articles remain in the drafting process outside the mainspace, the images remain technically "orphaned". Hence, currently the only way to save them is to move the drafts into the mainspace within a week. If this deadline is too soon but you still have the logos saved to hard disk, not to worry - they can always be re-uploaded once the articles are established in the mainspace. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. Sincerely, SuperMarioMan 01:17, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Plasticity Forum.png) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Plasticity Forum.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Proposed deletion of Kids Ocean Day HK edit

Hello, Checa985. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Kids Ocean Day HK, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:29, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Plasticity Forum edit

The article Plasticity Forum has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable organisation with unreliable sources. Fails to meet criteria for organisations at at WP:ORG

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disambiguation link notification for December 17 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Oceanic Big 5, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Divers and Swimmers (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wikipedia:Non-free content policy and guideline edit

Please do not place or replace any non-free images to any pages except for actual articles, as you did at User:Checa985/sandbox. Such use is a clear violation of point number 9 of our policy concerning the use of non-free images. Continuing to do so can be viewed as disruptive behaviour and you may be blocked from editing. VernoWhitney (talk) 21:37, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The problem is not linking to pictures, it is uploading them. You can't link to pictures in an article anyway, so I don't know why you would want to. The only pictures that can be uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikipedia Commons are pictures that have been released for free use. If you took it, that is no problem. If you got it from the web, it is. There is a narrow exception called "fair use" which will allow you to upload an image of a logo to illustrate an article about the holder of the copyright on the logo. Other than that, all images anywhere on Wikipedia, even in your sandbox, have to be released for general use. That means if someone gives you an image and tells you you can use it to illustrate "such and so" article, but nothing else, you cannot use it. Hope that clears things up a bit. Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:15, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Logos fall under the fair use exception; am I correct in thinking logos I have uploaded are legitimate but I may not have provided all necessary information (source, author, etc), and that is why users are flagging some? Thanks :) Checa985 (talk) 01:37, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fair use only applies on articles about the logo's copyright holder. Since you took your articles down in your sandbox, I am not sure about how to answer your question. A point, tho: You must fill in every box on the upload form. Where you got it, where you plan on using it, the fair use rationale (of which there are examples to use). So, if they have not yet been deleted and you apply them to the appropriate article, all you will have to do is go back and fill in the blanks on the rest of the info on the file's page. Copyright issues are a tough place to end up for a new editor. They are very confusing and traumatic. I will see if there is anything I can do to help you, but my guess is you have the info needed to finish out the upload info and there won't be much I can do. On notability edit

You have created a few articles that have been proposed for deletion. I would highly suggest that you familiarize yourself with WP:GNG. That is the basic standard for what can and can't be in Wikipedia. There are also specific guidelines for articles about people (WP:BLP), musicians (WP:NMUSIC), and organizations (WP:ORG). Organizations is the one you are getting "PRODed" on mostly. The short version of all the highly legalistic links I just gave you is this: If reliable, independent sources (such as newspapers, magazines, books, or TV or Radio news) are not talking about it, then you don't have enough for a Wikipedia article. Most of what you have written in the three articles (Kids Ocean Day HK, Ocean Recovery Alliance,Plasticity Forum) is sourced to primary sources, in other words, sites associated with the organization you are writing about. You have the one radio clip on Kid's Day, but you should try to find more. There are no secondary (i.e. independent of the subject) sources on Ocean Recovery or Plasticity Forum. Wikipedia primarily reports on what others are writing, just like any other encyclopedia. It would be my opinion that of the three, only Kid's Day would have much chance of surviving an article for deletion challenge. I hope I am wrong. If you want your (very well written, I might add) articles to survive, you are going to have to get more sources on them! I have very limited access to research material (the cost of living in a small beautiful town way up in the mountains), but I will be more than happy to help you with any questions or technical issues. I became aware of your situation at the Teahouse, where I am a host, but I felt it would require too long of an answer for that forum, so I wrote you here. Gtwfan52 (talk) 05:05, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

You are doing good as far as adding sources goes, but please remember, what is needed is sources that establish notability. That means showing that someone has noticed the subject of the article. That's why secondary sources (like newspapers, books and magazines, TV and radio news) are so important. It isn't absolutely necessary that these sources be web-based. There are templates to cite newspapers, books and magazines available and they are not hard to use. Oh, I wanted to tell you too...Sorry some people are so abrupt here. You are trying to make a good contribution and you have to learn to do it. Some people forget how hard using the software here actually is. So please don't let people that leave you snappy notes or templates discourage you. Teahouse will always give you answers without attitude. Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:28, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Plasticity Forum for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Plasticity Forum is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Plasticity Forum until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. K.e.coffman (talk) 01:48, 3 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ocean Recovery Alliance edit

Hi, I am wondering if you happen to be affiliated or have a relationship with the above entity? Same question would apply to Plasticity Forum. Thank you. K.e.coffman (talk) 07:34, 3 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am acquainted with the director of Ocean Recovery Alliance which organizes Plasticity Forum, but I do not receive any benefits from them monetary or other. I'm currently a peace corps volunteer and I have used some of their resources and information in my work because I have found it useful. I made the pages as a way to learn a bit about making a wiki page and chose to do so on an organisation I thought did interesting work. They are not meant to be promotional.
