Thanks. I'm just doing basic edits like punctuation and trying to make things flow better in English.
Sourcing seems to be a big problem with many articles. Might need to visit a library :) Chavmen (talk) 21:06, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

November 2023 edit

  Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to The Pride House in Beersheba—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 11:11, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I was just working on the grammar and consistency and was still working on it. In some cases the article says Beersheba, and in others Be'er Sheva. Thought it would be good to make it either one or the other. What do you think? Chavmen (talk) 11:14, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also, there was a lot of repetition in the lede, stating the obvious - Beersheba in the lede is mentioned four times. Chavmen (talk) 11:16, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Just wanted to illustrate:
The Pride House in Beersheba is a local LGBT organization in Beersheba, Israel, that works for the LGBT community in Beersheba and the Negev, promotes LGBT rights in Israel, Beersheba and the Negev in particular, and has various social activities for the local LGBT community. Chavmen (talk) 11:22, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
See how it reads a bit repetitive? I lived and worked in Be'er Sheva for a long time, and an LGBT person I think an edit is constructive. Thanks for your input. Chavmen (talk) 11:23, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Materialscientist,
I went ahead and made the changes as part of WP:BOLD, it reads better, and I've fixed the grammar. Feel free to read and comment. The article looks more professional and that's what I am here to do. Thanks for your input :) Chavmen (talk) 23:32, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@2603:7000:2101:AA00:5D44:E6B6:509D:F0B4 And what about you? I only see one contribution on your user page. Chavmen (talk) 22:33, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
My apologies. No - the reason my edit history is short is that I have a non-static IP. Not my doing. The internet company on its own (not my call) changes it periodically. OK - I see that you are a newbie. Apologies. All the best. --2603:7000:2101:AA00:5D44:E6B6:509D:F0B4 (talk) 22:50, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
No worries. Chavmen (talk) 00:03, 2 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Spelling edit

I see here you've changed from New Zealand to American spelling. In this article, it should be using New Zealand spelling because it's about New Zealand. American spellings don't take precedence over other variations. See MOS:ENGVAR. If you don't know what spelling to use, often articles will have a tag at the top saying "Use New Zealand English" for example.

New Zealand spellings are on the decline due to the rise of the Internet, so a lot of the newer New Zealand generations incorrectly use American spellings, which some people find offensive. Just be aware of that, thanks! —Panamitsu (talk) 00:29, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know, as I recently created a page regarding an NZ organisation. I believe my change was reverted by another editor. The Australian and NZ spelling is easier for me too - being in Australia :) Chavmen (talk) 00:32, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Indigenous Coalition for Israel edit

The article Indigenous Coalition for Israel has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ORG There may be a case for an article about Sheree Trotter, but there are insufficient sources about the subject of this article to meet the test for notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Marshelec (talk) 06:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Marshelec, Hi, I have added two other sources to the article as I find new information on ICFI. However, I do not want to remove the deletion tag without consulting you first. Chavmen (talk) 06:47, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
The key issue here is significant coverage of the subject of the article (ie the organisation itself) in independent and reliable sources, as per WP:ORG. The article is currently a long way from meeting that test.Marshelec (talk) 06:51, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I am doubtful at present that there will be sufficient genuinely independent sources to justify retaining this article. I suggest that a practical way forward could be to adapt the material already gathered, and write a new article about Sheree Trotter. It seems possible that there are sufficient independent sources to support a biographical article about her. If you decide to do that, please note that Wikipedia does not generally use "Doctor" in front of names. Please see MOS:DOC for more details.Marshelec (talk) 06:58, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for letting me - I can remove this. I only used what was in the sources and the sources have Doctor in front of her name. Chavmen (talk) 07:12, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I disagree. Upon checking several other organisations under this category (see here, here, here and here) ICFI far surpasses in sourcing and notability. Unless these are getting nominated for deletion also? Chavmen (talk) 06:58, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Other articles are irrelevant to this discussion. Marshelec (talk) 06:59, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Would it be okay if I ask for a third opinion on this? As that is what I based my article creation on - I looked at other pages, checked the WP:RS and ORG requirements. Chavmen (talk) 07:03, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
You are welcome to ask anyone. Equally, I or other editors can chip in. A possible future option is to submit the article to WP:AFD, but I wanted to take a softer approach to allow for the possibility that sufficient independent sources about the organisation might exist. I ask that you set out on the talk page why the article meets the expectations set out in WP:ORG. As I have mentioned above, my suggestion is to create an article about Sheree Trotter instead.Marshelec (talk) 07:11, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem, happy to do that. I will start with the Talk Page. Chavmen (talk) 07:18, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
It occurs to me that you could simply move the existing article to Sheree Trotter, and adapt it so that it is a biographical article. That article could mention the organisation, without having to meet the notability test of WP:ORG. However, it would still need some additional independent citations to meet the notability requirements for biographical articles.Marshelec (talk) 07:18, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Marshelec Thanks Marshelec, I will take this into account and over the next week try to either bring the current article to WP:ORG or create another article for Sheree Trotter. Chavmen (talk) 11:57, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Haim Hanegbi edit

You've changed Israeli settlement to settlements, but the latter one is a disambiguation page and also, in the sentence there is a specific reference to Israeli settlement. So, please check the outcomes of your edits. Egeymi (talk) 05:08, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Egeymi Thanks for letting me know. I meant to change it to Israeli settlements and the same link. On the preview on my phone it worked. Not sure why it was different. Chavmen (talk) 05:52, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics edit

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Bassem Eid on Hamas: citation edit

On 11 November Chavmen you added a sentence citing www.msn.com without any title or author to Bassem Eid. At the moment that doesn't lead to a specific article. Do you remember anything about the article you were citing? If it led to an article originally published at another site it would have been better anyway to have cited that, perhaps including an archive URL as well. Mcljlm (talk) 16:46, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, usually when citing I do an auto-generate. Seems this is one that didn't work and now the page must be archived. It also may have worked at first and now since it's archived does not.
I'm happy to find another source and post it here for you. Chavmen (talk) 02:40, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
After auto-generating and clicking Insert Chavmen it's always worth clicking Edit to check that author, title and the other source details appear in the citation. It's important to include working citations for all users. Mcljlm (talk) 11:37, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Mcljlm, as I said I usually do so apologies for any inconvenience.
I did find the reference however; an opinion piece in Newsweek. Feel free to reference accordingly as per WP:RSOPINION
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/hamass-terrorism-isnt-only-aimed-at-israel-but-against-my-palestinian-brothers-and-sisters-in-gaza-opinion/ar-AA1jtgLY Chavmen (talk) 00:48, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I've cited the Newsweek article and included a new archived version (the existing versions didn't include "Updated"). Mcljlm (talk) 08:14, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Chavmen (talk) 09:42, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
